All unofficial conversation goes here.

Alright everyone, feel free to take a look around, ask me questions, get a feel for the place. You can start applying for the stables, but things will move slow at first (as I'm still building my database).

Have fun!

Awesome! I want the Union Jacks job! Am I to just apply as I would an FBL team?
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Mike Powers on February 26, 2015, 09:50:32 AM
Yep, just apply in f the thread. The game is structured like the FBL that we all know, with new twists/challenges to keep us interested.

Remember applying =/= automatically being hired. There will be a bit of an interview process.

Oh awesome! Love that there will be an interview process. Very looking forward to this mate, can't get enough of this kinda game

In universe are we treating wrestling as a real thing (ala MMA)?

Yes, in this universe wrestling is a shoot.

Count me in. I'll have a post sorted out later today.

This game looks like a lot of fun, and for some strange reason it's just totally awesome to see the logos in the context of the full-fledged game. Took me a little while to get them all sorted out, lol.

That's right, I nearly forgot. Big thanks to GFX-master Alex fir providing the logos!

One new wrinkle is, once hired you'll need to decide which city to set up your camp in. Anywhere in the continental US is fine. Large/mid/small market cities all have their pros and cons. Basically, a large market will cost more to set up your camp, but you have an easier time attracting talent. Small markets are more coat effective, but bigger stars may not want to go there. Mid markets are a compromise.

Does it have to be in the US?

Go into a thread that you want to apply for a job for, and tell them so. when Powers responds he's responding as that character. It's up to you to respond to everything pretty much. We're playing roles. In this case Powers is assuming the role of Game master and does all the NPCs, you as the player assume the role of a club president and make decisions. I mean you can quickly skim over some FBL threads, but what Rob, Prancy, Stoner, and I have done is pretty much what is expected in this format of game.

Do we respect boundaries and not apply for a club if someone else has?
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Justin on February 26, 2015, 02:31:22 PM
Hmmm...there are only ten clubs so I would say go for it. Looks as though Powers is doing an interview process so the owner might like you better.
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: T-Bonizzle on February 26, 2015, 02:33:59 PM
So far we're respecting boundaries, but there are still two clubs unanswered, so certainly you can get first crack at something.
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Mike Powers on February 26, 2015, 02:38:16 PM
It's an iterview process. Feel free to pop into any thread. The owners have things that they're looking for, some obvious, some not. So even if it looks like someone has a job locked up, feel free to apply.

Glad to see new blood interested! Ask any and all questions, I and other vets of this style of game are willing to help.

Also as an FYI, I'm heading into work. If I have downtime here, I'll try to update threads. So if it's staggered oddly throughout the night, that's why.

And Fnord....I'll get my FWL pick in soon!
Title: Re: The OOC Thread

So could or should we apply for different clubs?
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Fnord on February 26, 2015, 02:39:37 PM
hahaha, I was gonna say that about your pick!  >:( So it's just posting and posting more? I don't need any actual skill to do this?
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Mike Powers on February 26, 2015, 02:52:37 PM
@Midas - Feel free to apply for any club you want, regardless of if anyone is already there.  The hiring process is NOT first come, first hired.  It is an interview, and I am prepared to speak to multiple people at the same time in the threads.

@Fnord - At it's core you are basically managing personalities.  Each character in the TCW universe has an individual personality, and it is up to you to work with them to reach their maximum potential.  You don't need to have any special skills or knowledge to play.
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Mike Powers on February 26, 2015, 02:53:40 PM
Also, I highly recommend reading the "How TCW Works" thread, even for guys with FBL experience.  Although the game is structured similarly, there are new wrinkles in there.  If something is left out, or vague, or just plain doesn't make sense, feel free to ask for clarification!

As an FYI, I am using this list to determine market size:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population)

#1-20 are Large Market cities
#21-40 are Mid-Market cities
#40 and up are Small Market cities

At first I was like, WTF, and now it makes me laugh pretty good.

And incidentally, like I said before, the owners all have a list of things they are looking for in a President.  There are very few things that would trigger an "insta-hire", as I want to allow as many people to apply as are interested.  Rob was getting close, but the New England thing spoiled it for him, but Midas was the absolute closest so far.....if he had gone ahead and asked Davis to fight for the Shoot Club spot, he'd have been hired right then and there.

And just so everyone knows, now that I've said it, it won't work moving forward for anyone else.  So don't try it.  :)

do we have to use the same personality if we want to apply for more than one company?

So if I were to post in another thread would I have to do it as Curtis? or could I be Curtis in one thread and Goldferg in another, for example?

I didn't specify this in the rules.  My intention is that you use the same character throughout the TCW run.  Your reputation will follow you throughout the game.

Now, where I did not specify this previously, I will allow anyone that wants to the opportunity to change their name/character.  Just let me know here, and it isn't a problem.

Be honest with me Powers, do I actually have a chance of being in this game? I know I'm fairly disliked around here, and with more than 10 people being interested, you're choosing which people get to play and which people don't. So I'm just wondering if it's even worth me continuing to try and get one of the jobs?
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Mike Powers on February 27, 2015, 12:14:34 AM
Interviews are wholly unbiased. You stand just as much of a chance as anyone else. The only thing that will gain (or lose) you a job is what you say/do in the thread.

The only person who is guaranteed a spot (if he wants it) is Alex, due to his kind work on GFX for this project.

I just wanted to check on that, because if there was absolutely no chance of me making it, well then I wouldn't waste my time. As long as I do have a shot, I'll try.

How do you know that? My character is showing that he wants the job, believes he's the best man for the job, and that the other applicant shouldn't get it. If you're talking about me being disliked on here, well the stuff I'm doing with the character should have no bearing on OOC stuff.

It in no way was meant as trolling.  It was meant to be a homage to Cheese King.  I admit I should of asked first.  It was just something the Savage Youth character would of done, and I thought it would be something that all involved could laugh at quickly.  Like I said, no disrespect was intended

ANYONE who doesn't get hired this go round is more than welcome to apply for any future vacancies/expansion.  Alex is the only one guaranteed a spot (when he actually applies!) due to his help with this project (namely, putting together all the logos).

Powers... Is it safe to assume that if we are hired for a club then we are out of contention for other clubs that still have not decided or is it possible to be hired by two clubs and then we have to choose one?

That's what it was Fnord, I had to bribe my way into the game when my only competition was a guy who had applied for every job.

I forgot to mention the "bribe" happened 36 hours after I got the "job"

Nothing personal Fnord.  With only 10 openings, and 15-16 interested applicants, some people were going to get left out.  You ranked very high for the Devils job, but in the end Pancho narrowly beat you out.

In these types of games, people get fired/new teams pop up/etc all the time.  I'd recommend following along, and applying for any new openings that creep up.

The Shoot Club was by far the most highly competitive thread.  I had to read, and re-read each persons pitch 2-3 times before finally making the decision.  The PFC and Devils were also difficult.  Good job, everyone.

Congratulations to all those that secured jobs!  To those that didn't, if this season goes well I plan on some sort of expansion for Season 2.

I will be unlocking threads in a moment.  Your next task is to speak with your Assistant regarding setting up a home base for your club.  I am currently putting together the PDF for the Trainers/Assistants/Coaches.  Hiring them will be the next step in the process.

Firings would be spontaneous, though I'd guess with it being Season 1 that there'd be a little leeway.

New clubs wouldn't be until Season 2, as Powers previously stated.

In the meantime those on the outside that want to play when there's an expansion can get an idea of how things are done so they know what to do/what not to do.

Don't switch bud... I saw you picked Vegas but in my interview process I pitched Vegas to my owner. I believe that in the scope of the game we are not suppose to know what other clubs are talking about so I as the president am not suppose to know that you and your club president are setting up Vegas...

So my thought process was simply that I would mention Vegas and Powers would give me his comments and if I lost Vegas then I would go back to my Owner and chose another venue... But I very well could not atleast try for Vegas...

I hope that makes sense.

Powers didn't specify that you had to go Head Trainer, Assistant, Doctor so I'd guess you could do it any way you'd like.  There will no doubt be fewer Head Trainers to choose from by the time you get to them though, which would be the drawback to doing it that way.

I would like to ask a question... I am learning this thing and am curious about something.

I am noticing that some teams are signing guys to 3 year deals worth about 3 million a year and other teams are signing guys to like 3 year deals worth 4 million for the entire contract. Is this accurate or am I wrong? Some people are saying "3 Years for 3.5 Million" which I presume to mean for the entire 3 years while others are saying "I want to sign you for 3 years with 3 Million a year"

I ask because I am keeping track of everything as I try to find my footing and don't want to make a mistake. Is it just a matter of some people not being as wise with their budget?
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Stoner on March 03, 2015, 08:46:42 AM
Yes and no.  The big thing is some trainers are going to be better at BEING trainers than others.  The only indication of trainer-capabilities we have right now are Experience and Background.  For example Samuel Flannery has 24 years of experience as a wrestler.  That would make him likely worth more than Kevin Douglas, who has no experience as a head trainer and is a fitness expert.

Currently, since we don't know how actually good the trainers are, low numbers for both years and amount of money are best bets.

I understand... This is not a knock at anyone but I look at Phillip Audley with 37 years experience and he gets signed by Denve to a 3 year 4 million dollar deal while Monica White gets signed to Seattle to a 1 year 5 million dollar deal while she only has 5 years experience and it is Legal experience.

Seattle and Denver are 21 and 22 on the list so I don't see much of a market difference so is it safer to say that Monica is over paid or Philip is underpaid?

I am not criticizing anyones deal I am just trying to understand. It looked as if Rob made a high ball offer to his trainer and she took it.

Makes total sense.. Like I said I am not judging anyone I am just trying to gather my thoughts and learn... But yeah it seems like you can either blow out your budget or be cost conscious...  Like when choosing Chicago as my town I was like 8 MILLION DOLLAR come on man as if I was actually spending money lol

Also the one year deal has very little risk. I genuinely liked what she said a lot, I found it very sensible and it matched up with all my requirements. At this stage we don't know shit about any of the coaches so she could be the best one while the one that's been dropped on his head for 20+ years could be the worst.

The reason I went $5m for 1 year is because at the end of the year if it doesn't work out I've only got her for one year and you enjoy got an actual risk for 4 years, especially if he turns out to be an idiot.

With where the game is I don't think there's a wrong and right way of handling trainers. Except for Reya

Before the draft is it possible to trade away a higher pick to another team for cash? If yes then which budget will it come out of?

If we are allowed to trade away our picks do we contact the club president in their clubs thread?

I highly doubt you can trade for cash. You can only trade players and picks.

Yeah generally you can only trade picks and players. There will likely be a "Trade Discussions" thread made when trading becomes an option, and you can discuss things like that there or through PM etc

Game is not exactly the same as FBL. Characters have been way more patient. What Pancho is doing would get him fired in FBL...

When Mike posts we're interacting with a character right? My comparison to FBL is that characters in FBL don't have a lot of patience. You dealt with this briefly on that one coaching candidate who walked out on you.  don't pretend to know how Mike will handle his character's tendencies. Character tendencies in FBL is that everyone is on a short fuse. For example last season Steven did a press conference and forgot to congratulate one of his players for making the All-star team. That player immediately demanded a trade, and there was nothing he could do about it. Does that seem over the top to a reasonable person? Yes, but that's how the style of game works.

Yeah same here. Schedules are opposite lol. Bummer.

My schedule is erratic, as I work evenings sometimes, and overnights other times.  For those that don't know, I am an RN at a hospital, and put in 40+ hours a week there.  Sometimes (especially during overnights) there tends to be some free time to update threads.  Not always.  The time I have on my days off are dictated by what I'm doing with my wife that day.

Long story short due to my sleep/work/life schedule, expect my "hot times" for updating to be in the evenings, into the night Eastern time (roughly 8pm-3amish).  Some early afternoon updates will likely occur, but with less regularity.  Expect few to no updates during the morning (again, Eastern Time)

I know you guys weren't complaining, I just thought I'd give everyone a heads up as to what to expect.  I'm fairly relaxed, so I won't get annoyed if it takes a while for everything to get done, if timing doesn't work out between me and a player.

Characters are patient right now, but that is because it is quite early.  Mistakes are being forgiven (misspellings in the contracts, calling people wrong names, etc...) so that everyone gets an idea of where the lines are, and what is expected.  Do NOT expect this leniency to last indefinitely.
Title: Re: The OOC Thread

Elaborating on the last point.....yes, some things that are going on in the threads would get you run out of an FBL team (Stoner and his breakfast fixation, Pancho living the gimmick, etc...), but remember this is NOT the FBL.  Similar structure and form, yes.  But I am not aiming this to be an exact clone of Ian, or anyone else's, game.  Wrestling is over the top, and feel free to have fun with things.  Just know that, at some point, things may backfire on you.

From "How TCW Works".....

Quote- Each week, you will need to produce a lock in sheet.  You will need to assign your wrestlers into one of the following slots:
~Main Eventer (wrestles in last match of card)
~Semi-Main Eventer (wrestles in next to last match of card)
~Tag Team #1 (wrestles in middle of show alongside Tag Team #2)
~Tag Team #2 (wrestles in middle of show alongside Tag Team #1)
~Woman (wrestles early in the card against other women)
~Curtain Jerker (wrestles the opening match of the card)
~Bench (not actively competing this week, but in the building)
~Sparring Squad (not actively competing, and is not in the building)

ALL salaries (Trainers/Doc/Wrestlers) come out of the Salary budget.
The PR/Scouting budget is for just that....PR campaigns, and scouting.
The Incentives budget is for everything else (Camp location/perks that signees request, such as the UJ's doctos charity/etc)

To this point: In order to make it easier for those keeping a spreadsheet, and my own record keeping, in the future please include the following information when submitting a deal.  Name, position, years, money (and if applicable, which budget).  Any sort of amusing language is fine, just make sure that you have all the pertinent info.

Where we are:

We still have Tritch hiring his staff (no hurry bro).  I have gathered together all the names/pic bases to be used for the first set of TCW wrestlers.  Since I've been at work the last 2 nights, I haven't been able to put them in a table/pdf format for you guys to download.  I hope to get that done tomorrow, and have them posted by tomorrow night/early Monday morning.  Then, a Dirt Sheet story will provide more details on the free scouting reports each team is entitled to.  Once that report goes out, you can feel free to submit your scouting.

Looking right now at a soft deadline of the draft starting Wed/Thurs.

From "How TCW Works":

Quote- Different types of scouting are available.  Please select one, and only one, of the following:
~Watching tape (your trainers watch film on the wrestler, and give an impression based on what they see) - $500K
~Live scouting (your trainers will observe the wrestler in person, gaining a much better impression of their skill) - $1 million
~Private workout (your trainers will have a 1 on 1 workout, gaining the BEST knowledge about their skill/potential) -$2 million

So Stoner, I assume you want live scouting, but please clarify which you want.

Well firstly, you get some free scouting reports (as elaborated on in "The Dirt Sheet"). If you wish to scout beyond that, then you have the option to do so (as discussed in "How TCW Works"). There are different levels of scouting:

Quote- Different types of scouting are available.  Please select one, and only one, of the following:
~Watching tape (your trainers watch film on the wrestler, and give an impression based on what they see) - $500K

I just went down the list and if I liked the sound of the character I scouted him. I priortized certain ones for my free scouting reports (since they will be objectively better), but then I kept scouting to ensure I got a full picture of what I wanted. I might have gone over board (scouting 24 guys for 8 roster spots) though...
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Mike Powers on March 08, 2015, 05:46:07 PM
Not really, considering 80 people will be drafted.
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Midas on March 08, 2015, 05:51:26 PM
I am aware of that Mikey...

The wording implies we are paying these amounts to scout particular wrestlers however the post in the confirmed thread implies certain clubs are proclaiming x amount of money for scouting reports but not saying a particular wrestlers name.

I am new so I was waiting for a list of wrestlers and was waiting to pick whoever I wanted scouted but it appears that is not the way it is done.

So I was simply trying to find out information and strategy from VETS to this type of game.

EVERYTHING ABOVE DISREGARD

I went back and noticed the file that can be downloaded with all the names so now it makes sense...

Anyways now my question is do we pick certain wrestlers to scout and send a PM to you Powers with who we want to scout and how we want to scout them and then place the total dollar amount in the confirmed deal thread.

Looks like you got it. Basically we don't want everyone else to see whom we're scouting, so we PM Mike with the names and just confirm what was spent (free reports, money).

As for me, I picked 15 guys and watched tape on all of them. I figured getting a wide view of the wrestler list was a good strategy for me.

Yeah, I guess I misunderstood your original question a bit Midas.

Yes, you send me a list of names you wish to scout, along with the type of scouting you wish to perform. Then you just submit the financial piece in the confirmed deals thread, and you're good to go.

Do we need to FCD the free ones or just the ones we spend money on?

As a general rule, when spending money submit the deal. If it's free, you don't have to submit anything.

I've updated to reflect everyone's budgets and Tritch's staff.

Also, the list of draft prospects are in the spreadsheet. I'll grey them out once they're gone.

Sorry for my absence today gents. Impromptu trip with the wife to the casino. Good news is, we won a nice chunk of change (enough so that when we submit/pay our taxes, it's all covered by the win!). Will work on scouting tomorrow/today (Tuesday).
Title: Re: The OOC Thread

About half of the free scouting reports have been written and sent out.  If you haven't received your free scouting, you'll likely receive it tomorrow.  Once I get that done, I will start on the scouting submitted from your budgets.

As an FYI, I will give a "24 hours notice" to get in any last minute scouting.  Any scouting submitted after that 24 hours will wait until after the draft.  Around that same time I will announce the time/date that the draft goes live.

All free scouting should be sent out now.  If anyone is missing FREE scouting, then let me know.

I am currently at work, without access to my Assistant Trainer notes, so I can't get started on those until I get home.  Will get those out as soon as possible.

Individual (purchased) scouting about halfway done.  If you didn't get yours, cool your tits 'cause I'm working on it.

Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Midas on March 17, 2015, 01:14:58 PM
Here is my thought process on the draft and this manner and this is simply my opinion...

I spent 9 Million on scouting and only have a fraction of a grip on the draft pool thus far... Just because a person was drafted #2 in this draft does not make him better then a person who went undrafted. Why? Lets say not one of us sent out a scouting report for Jackson Cage. Odds are no one is going to draft him and when the draft is over Justin P sends out a scouting report for Jackson Cage because he could not come to an agreement with Jacob Stance and discovers that Cage is far better then Stance and signs him to a better deal.

I have a great grip on who I want to draft and sign much like I believe most of you do and I have backups for my backups which is why I spent so much money on scouting. I am not going to take a risk of signing Jacob Stance since I don't have a scouting report on him and I am not going to be bullied by an agent into signing someone for more then what I consider they are worth when I can spend some cash at the end of the draft and find someone better.

It is not like we had a ranking system prior to the draft and Jacob Stance was the 8 best wrestler in the nation and he was a steal int he second round.

In the NFL or NBA going into a draft there are so many mock drafts going around that you basically know that someone like Lebron James is going # 1 before hand and you as a GM cannot just dismiss him because you don't like the numbers. So truth is when I start negotiations with Doug Manning if he does not like the offer and his agent takes a stance against me I will simply move on and James Reeves or scout Mike Haller when the draft is over.

This is based off my opinion and since I am new to this kind of set up and often miss things I could be wrong and we have to sign our draft pick.

Like what? I am all ears as like I stated I am new and learning...

However there is no tangible evidence that supports the theory that the players we scouted are any better or worse then the players unscouted.

It could hurt your rep with the agent and he/she would be less likely to want to deal with you in the future.  Assuming I don't and you end up going after Haller, I've got a report on him so just hit me up and we could probably work something out.

I understand that aspect and consider it greatly as you do not want to have a bad relationship with the agents as it will make for a hard time. However I feel that we are suppose to treat this game as realistic as possible and at times things can get heated between agents and GM and sometimes a deal just can't be made.

So I am basically with Justin with taking a stand but much like in real life when you take a stand the consequences could possibly suck!

Thanks for the offer bud I appreciate it.

This game is far from realistic, temper your expectations right there. But I wouldn't stress the signing thing. Some FBL GMs will move heaven and earth to sign anyone and everyone. Some will let player's walk if they ask for too much. Do what you want to do. There are more players in the pool than we need to fill out a roster. Don't feel pressured to play in a way you don't want to play in. If you want to be a hardnosed GM, be one.

Never said this game is realistic... I said we need to treat this game as realistic as possible which means we need to act like we are actually running a real life company and do what is best for our company. We need to stay within budget and make sure everything runs smoothly.

In doing this we must at times be hard and make difficult choices much like people who run teams and companies in the real world.

The issue comes into play with the fact that Powers is already watching over 8 threads, to try to also take care of more than one thing in each thread becomes too much. He has to track down multiple pictures and multiple trains of thought at the same time.

Mike might be okay with it, but other mods I've played with don't like it.

I hear you but you are speaking for Mikey and truth is I just don't see him wanting us to restrict ourselves for his benefit. This game in general is a huge undertaking on his part and he knows that it will be taxing on his time. If he restricts us then I will follow that but at this point I simply believe we have to play the way we play and not rush him and let him take his own time.

@ Mike Powers...

Let's say for example that some of the scouting reports we have with us are for players who have all been drafted or we do not want. We cannot purchase more until the end of the draft which I understand...

My question is are we allowed to forgo draft picks at the end of the draft if we intend on scouting after the draft is over and signing people at that point?

Title: Re: The OOC Thread

They're your draft picks, you can choose to use them, trade them, or pass on them entirely. It's completely up to you. Now, whether that's a good idea or not....well, only I know the answer to that. :D

I figured as much about it being a good idea or not... I have not got to the point where I have no options for picks but am thinking ahead.

Odds are, even as we're picking, there may be people who might look for an opportunity to trade for something that fits them in their system and whatnot. Just keep picking who you think would be a good fit for the different positions and keep your eyes open. Opportunities can come from anywhere in these things. The Stance example is a key one now after the failed negotiations between his camp and Justin.

I agree with what Bone said...I mean it is smart to try and trade up for the higher pick but Pancho doing you a solid with nothing in return makes no sense...

I mean I have no problem with it but atleast he could have asked for like 500k to exchange drafting positions.

Agree with this... My assumption was that the agent would not want to sign the lesser brother to a contract with another team. However I had scouting reports that showed this info to me and others might not have know this...

Good that you got the tag Josh just a funny way you guys went about it is all IMO

Nah, I think Josh was smart. To be honest if Josh had decided "I got this team" and let the other brother fall, I might have picked him up to try and really shank him.

But just remember we're playing with each other just as much as against each other, goodwill deals is how you build rapport with the other GMs.

I am not complaining or denying any of this...

My scouting reports show Morgan as the Jeff Hardy to Denzel as the Matt Hardy... I believed that had someone drafted Denzel they would have had a hard time coming to terms with him and he would have only been good for trading to Josh for something to gain...

Josh gained all in that trade and Pancho gained nothing besides good will... If they are cool with it then that is not a problem but giving away a better drafting position for nothing in return is a huge favor that hopefully helps Pancho out in the long run.

Basically, both slots are your "bench".  Only 1 travels with you to the arenas (and that is because the sim allows for run-in's; the guy you bring to the arena would be the one doing that), while the other one stays behind.

You'd lay out your lineup before the card, and once that is set, it is set.  If someone gets injured, they either wrestle through it, or they lose the match via the injury.

Nope, the sim is random.  I can raise or lower the % of time that run ins occur, but before I go tweaking things I want to get a season under my belt.  Keep it simple for now.

I've updated as much as I can with the spreadsheet. There's a draft section in there that lists who's still available, I've removed all those already picked as they're going straight into their teams, just waiting for contract details there.

Let me know if you think I've got your PR or incentives wrong.

You've got me down for 4.5 PR spent when I think it's only been 3.5
Title: Re: The OOC Thread
Post by: Rob on March 21, 2015, 04:10:17 AM
3.5 on wrestler PR and 1 was spent on Kamikaze Lee's English lessons. You asked if it would come out of incentives budget in your thread but you put it in the Confirmed Deal's thread to come from your PR Budget.

EDIT: Re-checked it, you're right, I put Mitch Ward's PR on there twice.

@Mike Powers

I just read the Rob rule... I am curious about something related to that in a way. If we draft someone and are having a hard time coming to terms will that player become a free agent only after we the club president release our claim on them?

Meaning if I am having a hard time coming to terms with lets say Stevens and we are butting heads left and right can his agent simply say "Here is are final offer take it or leave it" and if I do not take it but counter with something can the agent declare his client a free agent?

Just curious so I know how far I can push negotiations. I figured it was kind of like we are drafting the rights to sign this player and if they refuse to sign for one reason or another they should not just be allowed to go on the free market as long as we the club president are still at the table.

Probably not going to happen but wondering.

Think of it more like you're drafting the rights to negotiate a contract FIRST with a particular wrestler. Once negotiations completely break down, like with Stance, they can sign anywhere.

There are actually people with the name Ceasar as either a first or a last name.  It's unusual but not necessarily inaccurate on Powers' part.

Yeah, not sure why people picked up Porter and Delbert Larson when they have clear desires to be with a certain team for certain reasons.  It's like they wanted to prompt a trade or something.

Not at all!  You just need to specify how the public sees it.  But remember, don't go overboard.  For example, if you have $500K PR on someone, and you have them cutting a promo from the space shuttle, chances are I'm gonna need you to cough up some extra dough for that.

1 - At the end of the draft thread, there is a list of wrestlers who went undrafted.  Everyone on that list, that was not named in the Dirt Sheet story, is a free agent.

2 -  Yes.

3 - You can try to approach James Hollis to make a deal.  I can't tell you how that will work out for you though....

Well may I ask a hypothetical question... Let's presume that a renegotiation cannot be had... Can the contract be mutually voided by both parties and the wrestler become a free agent?

How would I approach Jame Hollis? Ask my assistant to get a hold of him? Would I have to have a vacant spot on my roster before I could open negotiations with Hollis for a wrestler?

1 - If your wrestler walks out on you, 1 of 2 things will happen.  He will either demand a trade, or he will leave TCW and go to the CWA.  One way you get something, the other way you are left with nothing.

2 - You'd ask your assistant to get James Hollis on the line for you.  You can negotiate anything you want, but before you SIGN a wrestler to a contract, you need to have an open spot.  If you already have a full roster, then post a contract for a 9th, bad things will happen.

As a casual watcher, surely those who do not honour their contract would have to pay a severance deal to the employer otherwise the contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on.

Contracts are there to protect both employer and employee no?

Not how it works in these games my friend.  I'm sure you'll see the same thing happen in the FBL at some point this season.  If I remember correctly, in the FBL Scott Cunningham signed a big deal with his original team (the Diamonds), then got pissed that his best friend was traded.  He quit the FBL, and joined the Super League.  Just a day or so later, he returned to the FBL to play for Baton Rouge (I think?) with his BFF Bobby Chang.

TL;DR - Contracts favor the house.

Hey guys.  Sorry about the lack of updates.  It's been a crazy few days for me.  Long story short, my stepson developed an abscess in his neck (out of the blue) and was hospitalized for 4 days because of it, having 2 procedures to clear it up.  Needless to say, most spare time was spent at the hospital.  He is home now, so I hope to get things updated and moving today.

Also, a pair of FYI's.  I'll be going to Florida with the wife next week on Wednesday.  I'll have my ipad with me in order to view the site/keep up with mafia/FBL, etc.  But I WON'T have my laptop, with all my TCW files, with me.  So we'll be on hold until I get back.

THEN in late April, I'll be going on a long weekend to visit my family, and my mother doesn't have internet....at all.  So again, we'll be on hold until I get back.

I did not terminate Duke Barnes he walked out therefore his money is back in my budget....

60 Million Budget
Gerry Nichols - 16.5 Million
Cassidy Ray - 6 Million
Bull Bradfor - 5.5 Million
Sam Yates - 9 Million
Bobby Stevens - 3 Million
Whitney Cobalt - 2 Million
John Chau - 5.5 Million
Freeman - 3 Million
Chaos -  2 Million
Redford - 1.5 Million
Total - 6 Million Remain

As far as the PR:

20 Million budget
10.5 Million on scouting
4.5 Million on Gerry
2 Million on Yates
1 Million on Bull & Cassidy
Total - 2 Million Remain

Also on the spreadsheet I should only have 1 million in Incentive because I gave James Hollis 1 million and I got 500k for the trade I made.

I believe this is currently where I stand with one wrestler left to sign.

You are correct... However you danced just like the rest of us MINUS Bone and you bent to the will of the agents like the rest of us... Yeah you didn't have to pay out the ass like the rest of us but possibly this could be a reflection upon the level of Temple and Gibson in comparison to the other talent in the league... Maybe they did not warrant a huge increase like the rest of us had the pay... I guess we will have a answer to that by next season...

Either way maybe I will read up in your thread and learn how to haggle and counter for lower prices.

This is the main reason Gerry Nichols got a 16.5 million dollar contract... In the dirt sheet thread he was touted as a top 3 prospect and I paid out the ass just for the rights to talk to him so I figured there was no point on low balling him to save money. So i went big and the deal was taken. Yeah I could have went lower and met at a lower price but I felt a big show was needed to make up for the Duke situation.

Oh I called him Big Show.. My bad I didn't even realize! So yeah Bull Bradford is his name and the problem I encountered when I made my last 3 deals was I realized that Bull was one of the four people on my team who I was going to devote money to for PR and likely Stevens who was getting paid a half a million less then Bull was probably going to end up on my bench. As I began to write my PR for Bull I realized that I was setting myself up for Bull's agent to come back and be unhappy with the deal and truthfully I felt he was under paid in comparison.

Bull is my oddity and is a giant at 7 ft so I want to keep him happy so i figured I would just come back and offer him a higher deal right off the back to nip any ill will in the butt and maybe gain some good feelings from him and his agent in the long run.

I figured 2 million still left me 6 million to make deals and all I need is one more guy so it should be all good... Trust me I am not going to make it a habit of offering more money out of the kindness of my heart lol

In the dirt sheet it clearly shows that Duke abandoned TCW and went to CWA therefore it is not that I terminated his contract and means I should get the money back...

If you take Duke off my team on the spreadsheet and adjust your numbers on the PR I am within budget. However you are correct Mikey can contradict that but at this point everything he has said thus far has lead me to believe I am not over budget.

Title: Re: The OOC Thread

You can release/sign/trade at any time, during the regular season. The only restriction is on extending contracts that are expiring, and that is covered in the rules. Your roster will lock in for the playoffs.

Remember, if you release someone from their contract, you are on the hook for the payment of that contract. Also remember that it is very important that you have an open roster spot before you add a new roster member (basically, terminate/pickup = good; pickup/terminate = VERY bad).

It's also worth remembering that everything you do has consequences, good or bad. Keep that in mind before going on a firing spree.

Alright Powers... First screw you... You are having far to much fun with my Doctor lol

So basically in theory I can interview other docs who remain unsigned and sign them to a deal as long as I do not go over my budget?

I also have to eat the contract for my current Doctor?

Do I have to fire her before I look for a replacement or can I search and sign someone then fire her?

Oh.  Em.  Gee!!  It's like, a deal!!

But yes, I am having fun with it.  ;D

To answer your questions:

- Yes you can interview other Docs.
- If you were to outright release a player/coach/doctor, you eat their deal.
- You must have an open doctor position before hiring a new doc. How you choose to get to that point is up to you.
- Some characters would care if you were shopping for their replacement, others wouldn't.

The week is simmed, the Dirt Sheet is updated.  The last thing I need to do is convert everything over to PDF form for posting.  I am currently at work right now, so that will happen at some point later this afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WHEN THREADS OPEN!

In storyline terms, it will be the day following the event.  You will release a statement to the media/hold a press conference (whichever you prefer) in which you will be expected to touch on certain things.  These are:

~The Story regarding you in the Dirt Sheets.
~The past weeks event.
~The upcoming event.
~League news which caught your attention (pick any of the Dirt Sheet stories not focusing on your team).

You may "beef up" your statement as much as you like, but you MUST touch on those 4 items.

Once that is done, you may begin conducting your business for the week.  You SHOULD speak to your Head Trainer first, but you don't HAVE too.  Just remember that people in these games can be moody as fuck, and take that into consideration.

Any questions, as always, feel free to ask here, or PM me.

Uh... on the UJ/Rockets match listing, is that a typo on the woman's match?

Because it's listing the woman for my team as Pearl on the match sheet... but I put Deanna Fuentes in as my woman in the main line-up.

Was going to try to get my presser up before I leave, but doesn't look like I'll have time.

I'm going on vacation for the next week and will be trying to steer clear from computers for the most part, so it will likely be a little over a week until I am active. Sorry to Mike and the players if this causes things to slow down at all.

As I mentioned in a thread that I just posted in the Random section, I've been offline due to a variety of issues.  Most of them have worked themselves out, so I fully expect to get things back moving this week.  Thank you for all of your patience.

Midas, Tritch, T-Bone....please post sometime within the next couple of days, so that when I am able to update things I can update your threads along with them.  Thank you.

I'll get the scores posted later today.  Right now I am at work and everything is done, I just need to convert the sheets to PDF (which I cannot do here).

Your press conferences will follow the same format as last week.

You know, I've run probably hundreds of matches on this sim so far, and I haven't seen ANYTHING like that XJ/Nichols match.  DAMN.  The default for a time limit draw is 1 hour, and I've never seen that happen.  The longest match I had seen prior to this one was a 40+ minute match, but nothing like XJ/Nichols.

BD and I are slowly updating the spreadsheet. The latest thing I have done is add the schedule, results, and standings to it. Included is an Overall column cause I assume that's the tie-breaker, and if not it's still really cool to know.

Alright, with everyone locked in, I'd like to make this announcement.  I wanted to keep this as low key, and low stress as possible, but it has turned out to go at much more of a glacial pace than I anticipated (not pointing fingers, as I am guilty of being busy as well).  So, that being said, starting with the posting of the Week 4 results there will be a 2 week (real time) limit to lock in for the next week (game time).

Don't worry, I won't suddenly auto-lock people; starting a few days before the deadline, I will begin nudging you in-thread to wrap shit up.  Also, if extenuating circcumstances occur let me know....I will be as accomodating as I can.  And if it ends up being me that gets overly busy and slows the game down, I won't penalize you guys for that.

That said....the holidays are almost here, so I don't particularly anticipate getting this weeks results up until after X-Mas.  I am working tomorrow night, so if it ends up being a calm night, I MAY be able to get things translated from the sim to PDF format to post for you guys.

Thanks for hanging in there guys!

Hi boss, I don't think we've been properly introduced.  Emanuel Carlson here.  I just wanted to come up here and personally thank you for standing by me, even though I know I've been pretty rough in the ring.  I know that I've been giving the training staff headaches while they try to get me up to speed.  But you've given me the opportunity to provide a real future for my disabled twin daughters.  After their mom and grandmom died in the ferris wheel accident, I've been looking for something to hold onto.  This team, and my new family here, has become it.

Thank you.

The FBL and HIFL leagues are canon in the TCW Universe.  I won't force anyone to be the same GM character if they don't want to be.  If you ARE portraying the same one, let me know.

Well, now that you mention it...I am concerned about the state of our nations food supply.  You got one side saying GMO's are bad and will kill you, then you got the other side saying that it makes no difference at all.  Then you got the gluten free people, who don't even have celiac disease and just like to be on a trend....it makes you wonder what you should be feeding your family!

It is with sadness and a heavy heart that I announce that TCW is now closed.  Of late my free time has been reduced a great deal, and with my recent decision to pursue my Masters Degree in Nursing, I will have even less time to devote.

Thanks to everyone who participated, and I hope it was fun for you all while it lasted.

Can we fast sim the season?

Godammit I didn't hype The Rematch of the Century as I would have ripped from me. I want results. At least close out the storylines.

When I have time I'll run the sim through to the completion of the season. Can't really finish out storylines, per se, because the handlers were a big part of that. But I'll info dump all I can at some point.

Sorry to see the game end, but totally understand the reasons for it. Glad I could be a part of it...even if it wasn't even for a full lock in period lol

Yeah, what Gates said, barring the limited tenure thing.

Although I'm still kinda shocked my cycling the ladies never ended up with the huge blow-up catfight I was expecting to happen
