Here is what I'm hoping this is about...

Tim you had a decent preseason, we're going to release you to give you a chance to sign with a team as a primary back-up. If nobody takes a chance on you, we'll sign you to our practice squad. This opens up another roster spot for someone and if something were to happen to Bradford it Sanchez, you'd be the guy to come in.

Doubt this is the case though.

The SEC Network needs Tebow more than Tebow needs to be playing football.

I thought we'd be stuck with either Barkley or Tebow. THIS IS SUCH A GREAT DAY! NOW LETS GO TEMPLE! BEAT PENN STATE!

I dont think he's eligible for the practice squad, thats what everyone has been saying.

BUT, should Philly only carry 2 QBs and one gets hurt, odds say they'll give Tim a call while he makes some $$ doing TV.

Silving Lining is I think the media would have turned me against the holy one if he made the roster.....Im glad I got to see him play in the pre season, but come Atlanta I dont give a fuck about Tebow until next August. Media would have done what they do and talk about him every week, I'll pass on that.

For anyone who was there on the October 23, 2013 night, its amazing news that Tebow sent Matt Barkley packing. For Tebow fans of the Eagles, you can grab a $15 china jersey to commemorate his impressive game against the Jets. For everyone else, we've rid ourselves of a INT machine and a media whore.

I fall into all 3 of those categories, so its a good day, especially if we can land Willie Young from the Bears to upgrade over that trash Marcus Smith.

I've been alright with Bradford since the trade, I really like Bradford. I've said it before plus, most teams roll with 2 QBs and then sign one if someone goes down. Given the depth at other stops, I'm ok with rolling with two if it means we hang on to someone like Goode or Smith.

EDIT: We're at 52 right now, we'll probably add a 3rd QB from someone who gets cut today. And we cut Goode which sucks.

I'm just going to say it's awfully petty to say that the silver lining in something is that someone got injured. You can dislike the team but wishing harm on someone is wrong ...

... especially when your quarterback is Sam Bradford.

Brutal loss last night, Falcons played slightly less awful and got the W. I figured we'd drop one of the first 3 because of chemistry issues, didnt think it was gonna be this one....and Dan Quinn out-coached Chip.

The play calling didnt help Bradford, it was like looking at Andy Reid all over again. The QB is struggling so rather run the ball to help him out, make him throw 50 check downs. Bradford got comfortable with his main read being short of the sticks 98% of the time. Having Maxwell out on the proverbial "island" against Julio was never going to work, Patrick Peterson got torched last year in the same way. Now getting torched by Roddy White on slants is another story, Maxwell needs a big game aginst Dez-less Cowgirls to redeem himself.

I thought we played awful (obviously) in the first half and played more like ourselves in the second half.

This is a game we should have won, but it is what it is.

Bradford started looking comfortable in 2nd half minus he can't throw down the field, but we need to get a run game established. Murray was doing his best McCoy impression by running north and south... I'd like to see him just go forward.

Thought we should have gone for it on 4th and short rather then kick the FG... that's something Chip usually does, so I was shocked to us go for 3 and figures we go and miss the FG, which I don't blame Parkey for as it looked like a rushed snap and everything.

Overall, saw some things I liked and some things I didn't.

Bring on the 'Boys!

This too....a FG wouldnt have been enough either. Falcons would of had the ball with over 2 minutes left and we we're stopping Julio at any point in that game, unless they kept trying that failed screen pass for the 6th time. Their kicker is automatic from 50 and under.

I feel bad for Matthews though, our best offensive player last night.

Doesn't matter as long as you don't have a QB to get him the ball. As long as they keep Alfred Morris healthy- they'll be competitive. Won't be explosive but will hang around.

Tough way for a Seahawks fan to start the season. Agonizing all offseason about handing the ball to Lynch, only to lose the game by handing the ball to Lynch.

I'm not too worried about the season as a whole though. Will probably lose to the Packers this week and be 0-2 but think they'll build some momentum after that as they usually have slow starts.

Game of the week next week for me will be Buffalo/New England. Will be a good showing of just what those teams are really about this year.

For what it's worth they showed a stat during a recap that says Marshawn is less than 50% successful in his career in 1 yard to go runs on 4th down (something like 5/11), so I mean he's not the sure thing...

Running out of the shotgun is trash more often or not. One of the few things I dislike about Chip Kelly.

"We need one yard"

okay, lets have our running back have to gain 8 to get that 1 yard.

Tie game, ball on your own 20, at home, you take a knee...

Unless your big red and you call a run and your RB fumbles because you tested fate.

Man.....i miss him, sorta

Charles is usually sure-handed, you can't expect him to fumble the ball once, let alone twice in a single game. I thought they made the right play call, it just went incredibly wrong.

If you believe that Alex Smith can lead them into FG territory in under 30 seconds against that D then yes that was the right play call.

Bears - Ian, Fnord
Chargers - Franch, Panch
Bengals - Hondo
Chiefs - Powers
Browns - Doug

Would love for Kam Chancellor to come back. I support the Hawks in not paying him though, so it is what it is.

If the contracts were fully guaranteed I would agree with you but until such time I don't. It's not like Bam's deal was front loaded and he got all his money up front and now wants more. You've got to take care of your own and the Hawks have done a good job of that to this point but I think this is really souring people. There's really no cap consequences for what Bam is asking for too - just cash outlay and I think that's what has him and his teammates pissed off. If you're going to keep Bam for the entire length of the contract it makes no difference. What you're saying by not giving him the money in '16 is that you're planning on cutting him before '17.

Also - I agree with you on the revenge storyline. I think it's mischaracterized but I do believe Belichick is in fuck you mode. It made the Bills game more interesting with him continuing to air the ball out in the fourth but I think he's looking to stick it to the rest of the NFL again this year. (I also laughed at the commentator asking why the Pats weren't "taking the air out of the ball" and giving it to Blount in the 4th.)

Wow, have to admit it now. Eagles just aren't a good team. If it was chemistry they'd see some improvement now, still having the exact same issues as 1st half of week 1. Chip is getting out coached, Bradford has no confidence, WR's dropping a gross amount of passes, zero run game, interior OLine just doesnt have talent, D on the field WAY too much and cant play a full game of football.

The Redskins arent a good team, which is really telling.

This is a 6 win team tops.

Receiving death threats over it paints CFB in such a negative light.

Title: Re: 2015 NFL Discussion Thread
Post by: Jon on November 04, 2015, 12:16:35 PM
You guys are putting too much stock into the first rankings.

If Bama beats LSU then they'll deserve a top 4 spot. If they lose, then they'll fall back out. So it's not that big of a deal really.

Baylor, TCU have played soft schedules. They get harder coming up and they have a date against each other in a few weeks. So that'll sort itself out too.

Memphis will end up slipping up against Houston or Temple... or NAVY this week! GO MIDSHIPMEN!

I actually think Notre Dame should have been in the 4 spot, but that's just me. They also have some really difficult games upcoming. So if they win out, they'll be a no brainer Top 4 team.

Michigan State/Ohio State... they play each other too. Whoever loses, that'll be the end of there chances.

Iowa has a soft as butter schedule. But if they win out and beat whoever wins out in the other division in the B10 CG... then it's hard to not include them, but also wouldn't be shocked to a) see them slip up at some point and b) get left out even if they win out.

If Florida wins out and wins SEC CG, they'll have a spot in the Top 4. But that is the only way they end up there.

I think if Stanford wins out and wins P-12 CG, they'll be a strong candidate for a Top 4 spot. They probably need Northwestern to do well still and not fall off completely. And on the flip side if Utah does the same, it could have a good argument too despite their lopsided loss to USC.

The Oklahoma schools will have cases... but I think they both need to win out as well to have any shot.

It's still so early in the season to take these rankings seriously yet. So many games left to be played out.

By your arugment then Notre Dame should be in the 4 spot given their only loss is to the #1 team in the nation. You argument about "destroying" teams for Baylor ... have you watched a Memphis game. Very similar and they've played a better slate to this point (and I don't know if Navy/Temple aren't better games than anyone Baylor will play aside from TCU).

You play the schedule you're given, and Baylor has destroyed every team in their path. Bama has a home loss and a two loss, and pretty shit Ole Miss team.

That's not how college football works any more. You don't play the schedule you're given - you go out and get a better schedule.

I've actually watched about 4 Memphis games to check out Lynch, to say Memphis should be ranked higher than Baylor is kinda LOL. Considering where Baylor started from pre-season rankings and their wins over Texas Tech and West Virginia, two teams that would be major problems for Memphis, and Memphis only having one legit win against an Ole Miss team that by where Bama is ranked is pretty much worthless.

Im really pumped for Florida to meet LSU/Bama in the SEC championship....Gators have the best defense in the nation and were a fake field goal away from beating LSU without a QB.

I too have ND over Bama for top 1 loss team.

1. Clemson
2. LSU
3. Ohio State
4. Michigan St

5. Notre Dame
6. Baylor

OBJ is such a cunt. All bias aside he's an incredible talent given his size but that shot to the head on Norman was the most blatant dirtiest shot I may have seen in my time watching football, and hopefully the media slows down on his unbearably over-sized hype train after this incident and his perception as the media darling takes a hit.

It may not have been as devastating a shot to the head like you may see on special teams or when goons like Merriweather/Suh/Goldson hit defenseless players, but considering this was two star players it's more significant especially with the pre-game banter that went on.

Suh springs to mind in comparison but from what I remember his stomps and shit were like to the gut and calfs and we're never full force and done in fits of rage, and some incidents could be seen as not targeted just recklessness. OBJ went right to Normans head and targeted a guy who shut him down and was going at it with him. That could have been a lot worse. One bad concussion can end a career as we've seen with some of the shock retirements as of late.

He could have been a man and if he was gonna freak out pull and Andre Johnson going after Cortland Finnegan, but instead he took an awful, awful cheap shot, and his post game interview he handled it just as badly as he possibly could have.

Norman should get a decent fine, OBJ needs a fine and at least 1 game suspension.....but then again he's the poster child for the video game they hope to move this xmas season and a general cash cow for the NFL. Probably will get hit with a lesser fine than DeAngelo Williams got for wearing pink.

QuoteA clinic in Indianapolis allegedly supplied human growth hormone, which is banned by the NFL, to current Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, according to a special report done by Al Jazeera (h/t the Huffington Post).

The report claims Manning used the banned substance during his recovery from neck surgery in 2011, which forced him to miss the entire NFL season.

The HGH and other drugs were mailed to Manning's wife, Ashley, so that the quarterback wouldn't attract any negative publicity.

Manning is just one of several high-profile athletes who is mentioned in the report, which airs on Sunday.

Coach Pat Shurmur will be interim head coach for Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

QuoteI have made a decision to release Chip Kelly this evening. I spent the last three seasons evaluating the many factors involved in our performance as a team. As I watched this season unfold, I determined that it was time to make a change.

As we move forward, the search for a new head coach will begin and will be led by myself, Don Smolenski and Howie Roseman. To the extent that we are able, we will try to keep you informed as we go through this process.

Pat Shurmur will be our interim coach for the Giants game Sunday.

We have also released Ed Marynowitz, vice president of player personnel. Tom Donahoe, who has been our senior football advisor since 2012, will assume the role of senior director of player personnel.

I am determined and excited to select a new coach to help us obtain our ultimate goal.

Thank you for your consistent and enthusiastic support. It is always appreciated.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Lurie

So happy Chip is gone.

He progressively was getting worse when he was supposedly getting the players he needed to run his system...

We we're actual a pretty scary offense his first season with Foles, Jackson, Maclin, McCoy... then he up and got rid of all of them.

He's a genius if it works... but it failed miserably.

He's a college coach... he needs to go back and do that. Because he's coaching does not translate to the NFL.
Title: Re: 2015 NFL Discussion Thread
Post by: Cory on December 30, 2015, 01:12:15 PM
I'm surprised and would have liked Chip to give up GM duties and have one year to redeem himself purely as the head coach. Two 10 win seasons I believe bought him a down year, especially when he's had the 11th most wins since he's joined the league.

Now that he's gone I hope he goes to college and not to a team that has a franchise QB. Chip never had a QB and I truly believe that was his downfall. He went all in on Murray and Bradford and it failed miserably. I think Chip Kelly with a franchise QB (so help me god if he goes to Indy) is scary, but the GM Chip did him in here in Philly. If he sat out a year and went back to college I think that'd be best so we wouldn't have to worry about Chip finding success elsewhere while we may struggle.

I'm not a fan of Howie Roseman resuming GM abilities, Mr. Marcus Smith himself AT ALL, and how....in any realm of possibility has Billy Davis not been fired yet?

Here's hoping Sean Payton leaves, if not I'd dream of a coaching staff of HC Hue Jackson, OC Ken Wisenhunt, DC Jim Schwartz/anyone to go back to a 4-3.

I think Cincy could flip McCarron for some picks this offseason to a QB hungry team, especially if Hue Jackson lands a HC gig

Awful end to that Bengal game.  They had that game WON.  PERIOD.

In theory getting all of the talented hotheads either cheap in FA, or late in the draft is good in theory, look at Honey Badger in Arizona....but Marvin Lewis needs to be held 100% accountable. He can't control his players and they deserved to lose that game. I was a fan of Burfict going into that game but that cheap shot on Brown was garbage. Sure it was a suicide pass but he could have blown AB up low, he targeted the head.

Laces in was not an excuse to miss that FG.

He drilled his 45+ yard FG with laces in.

He's a millionaire, he'll get over it. Took it like a champ though...wasn't his fault he had to do all the scoring today.

And I'm devastated.

Tough loss, but IMO Panthers are comfortably the best team in the NFL right now. At least the Hawks made a game of it in the second half, some pretty poor defense from Carolina in the 2nd half.

Too bad Jon dropped out, at one point he was within a couple of games of me despite missing an entire week.

Doug, any of the QB's in this draft look like good picks to you?

I think Cleveland would be better suited to look at a trade before burning a first rounder on Goff... I'm just not sold on him?

Trade Trade Trade.

Drop a few picks. Get a STUD wide receiver. Draft O-line in the next round. Get a QB round 3.

If Mack actually stays, draft D-line in round 2 instead of O-line.

Love em or hate em, you knew he was just about that action boss.

Thanks to Marshawn for being the man and having IMO the greatest run in NFL history.
