i started squirtle then went around the corner n found a pikachu :p

i asked cuz there is a way to start pikachu if u like. ur asked which 3 u want. dont choose n just walk away. they reappear later just ignore them again. do it again a 3rd time and keep walking. about 20 minutes or less, pikachu shows up. there ya go

I downloaded it but I was never really into Pokemon.  Too much micromanagement and I've never been OCD about collecting things. I can't really play it much because I live in an are where you have to drive to get anywhere, nothing is in walking distance.  The game was designed to get you out and walking but if there's no stores or other streets around you then it's not very fun.  It's made for a big city or a place with lots of shops/buildings. That being said it's the latest mainstream hit to come out to Smartphones.  If you were to go to a store, a mall, or some open air environment look around and see if people have their phones out checking for Pokemon.  Nintendo is making 1.2 million a day off of this, so don't discredit it.
