Post by: Cory on August 30, 2012, 05:25:41 PM
Might as well start this as im going to try and watch as much football as possible this season.

South Carolina and Vandy tonight, cant wait to see Lattimore and Clowney play...two of the best at their positions.

Seeing as how I'm from South Carolina and a lifetime Gamecock fan, I'm as excited about this season as any other.  I really think we have the team needed to win the SEC.  Lattimore is supposed to be better than ever and Clowney is an absolute beast who will have 20 sacks this season.

20......lets say a 12-15....then again hes the best end since Mario Williams.

Also watch out for Margus Hunt of SMU....heard he's going to be this years Dontari Poe and people are saying he could easily get double digits sacks, especially for a smaller school weak schedule.

Yes, 20 maybe a little high, but that's just the hometown fan talking out the side of his neck.  :jointpasssmiley:

HORRIBLE NO PASS INTERFERENCE CALL....and I was going for SC.

SC deserved to lose more than Vandy did to win, but good game. That hit on Lattimore was fucking huge.
Title: Re: 2012-13 College Football Thread
Post by: Justin on August 31, 2012, 10:35:52 AM
That was a terrible no call by the ref.  Definitely a pass interference.

Hit on Lattimore was huge, the one on our tight end was even bigger.

Needless to say we are lucky we came out of that game with a win.  We didn't look like a top ten team.  Our offense outside of Lattimore was horrible.

Can Shaw pass? Like was that an off game, or is he a Tebow NFL type playing in College
Title: Re: 2012-13 College Football Thread
Post by: Justin on August 31, 2012, 02:13:38 PM
The thing is he CAN pass, but he's also a good runner for a QB.  The last three games of last season he passed for 800+ yards, 8TDs and only 1 INT.

Last night was the worst possible off game.  I think the offense underestimated Vandy's defense.

Down goes Boise! Sloppy game, but Michigan State's defense was every bit as good as last season.

This Bell guy is pretty top notch too. Someone to look at as the season goes along in the Heisman race.

Looking forward to tomorrow!

Yep. Fuckthose Penn State players who had nothing to do with the child molesting. Stay classy San Diego.

Also, they just lost to Ohio. But got to love the heart they played with despite everything that has happened in the offseason. It's gonna be a long season for the Lions but I'll be pulling for them.

+1

I want to see those guys who stayed behind, especially the incoming freshman succeed on the field.  Going to a college for 4 years knowing you will NEVER get the chance at a bowl game says alot for those guys IMO.

Never gave a damn about Penn State, but now I've got a team to pull for in the Big 10

Alabama held Michigan off fairly easily....Denard Robinson looked like shit.

Also Mondays game was good (I only caught the 4th quarter I suppose, rest of the game looked meh) but last second field goal from VT to send it to OT and Logan Thomas torching GT in Overtime....cant wait to follow Thomas this year....all the tools to be an elite QB at the next level.

Games to look forward too next week:

Florida vs Texas A&M -- Driskel finally gets the #1 for Florida, this game is gonna be sick.

Auburn vs Mississippi State - Watch Auburn freshman Frazier vs an always tough Mississippi St. defence

Washington vs LSU - Keith Price (one of my top QB prospects) vs arguably top 5 defense in the nation, call me crazy I can see an upset if Price plays unreal, ala RG3 vs Oklahoma last season.

Nebraska vs UCLA- Probably the most competitive matchups....wonder if Taylor Martinez has actually developed into a passer based off his 5 TD's last week. Plus you got 2 very strong running backs in Burkhead for Cornhuskers and Franklin for UCLA. Probably most excited for this game if UCLA can keep it close.

Corys Heisman Watch after week 1:

1. Matt Barkley, QB,  USC (372yrds, 4 TDs, 0 INTS)
2. Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia (Pass: 323yrds, 4 TDs, 0 INTS // Rush: 8att, 65yrds, 1 TD)
3. Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas (367yrds, 3 TD, 0 INT)
4. Le'Veon Bell, RB, Michigan State (44att, 210yrds, 2TD)
5. Braxton Miller Ohio State (Pass: 207yrds, 2 TD, 0 INT //  Rush: 17att, 161yrds, 1 TD)

I can agree with your list Cory, but let's remember that everybody on that list expect Le'Veon Bell played teams that were way inferior to them.  So I wouldn't put too much stake in those numbers yet.  Though, Barkley plays in the Pac-12 where there is no defense so he will continue to put up those numbers.

They beat Oregon last year, and would have been in the Pac-12 championship game. Oregon didn't improve that much, and USC got some great recruits plus Silas Redd coming over is a big boost. Barkley is one of if not the best QB in college football and he's got some great receivers to throw to. There's a reason they were ranked #1 in the preseason poll. There will most likely be an SEC team in the championship game, but I really believe they'll be playing USC.

Let's not forget it was by 3 points and the game could have gone either way.  Both teams have practically the same team, however Oregon has gotten faster.  Even if they do make it, they will not have played a defense such as Alabama and LSU, and when they do they will get stifled.

I personally think it will be Florida State and Alabama in the Championship game.

Not a bad list Cory.

I'd had D'Anthony Thomas on that list though.

Also, two guys to watch is Andre Ellington (Clemson) and Taylor Martinez (Nebraska).

Only thing with Thomas is tht Barner will be eatin into his carries.

Ellington had a huge game and he's close to a top 5 and Martinez needs to prove himself against a legit team first

Thomas is a multi-tool player. He'll see more looks when they play better opponents. But yes, Barner will eat into his carries a bit. But I don think DAT can be a 20-25 carry back anyway.

As for Martinez, he played a tougher opponent then Tyler Wilson and Braxton Miller. Just saying.

Went to the UNLV/Washington State football game tonight and it was better than I thought it would be but overall both teams were pretty bad especially UNLV. UNLV's football team was getting blown out by a subpar WSU team which doesn't bode well for the rest of the season.

WSU isnt THAT bad. Arguably the top offensive coach in the league in Mike Leach and they have a really really talented Reciever, can't remember his name but hes a top 5 for his class.

Vols/Gators tonight can't wait.

Didnt say offense, said offensive coach. Their head coach Mike Leach is one of the most brilliant offensive minds in the game, let alone college. His offense a few years ago at Texas Tech was usually top 3 in the nation (With Harrel, Crabtree, Welker, ect.) Probably does the Air Raid better than anyone else, shame WSU doesnt have any talent, then again shame Leach locked a player in the locker room for fucking up and got fired from TT

That was on the Big12 where teams don't play defense. And Washington State do have talent, but he is going to realize the Pac12 can play offense and defense. But the Cougs have a great WR in Marquess Wilson.

Mike Leach is an okay coach though. Had some good recruits while at Tech, he'll find it much harder recruiting players to the Pahlouse but he can't do much worse then what Paul Wolff.

Games im pumped for this week:

Boise v/s BYU on Thursday, two ranked teams with potent offences.
South Carolina v/s Mizzou, another solid SEC game.
Cal v/s USC, like to see if the Cal from last week shows up, we got a game on our hands.
Oklahoma v/s Kansas State, I'd like to see KS upset Stoops and his average looking team this season.
Clemson v/s Florida St, I think Clemon has the talent to upset.

GOTW: Michigan v/s Notre Dame, cant wait.

Of course I'm excited about the SC/Mizzou game as I'm from Columbia, SC and a die hard Gamecock fan.  We SHOULD beat them by at least 14.

I think Kansas State beats OU by at least 10.

Florida State is too dominant this year to lose to anybody.  48-17.

Stanford was ranked way too high.  They got that huge boost from beating So. Cal, when in reality they've beaten them like the last 4 years or something like that so they've been more of an achilles heel for the Trojans than a Top 8 team.  Not surprised at all.

Baylor, giving West Virginia all they can handle right now.  Looks like the game will be 63-61 or something like that.

Don't get me wrong, the guy is a phenom, but lets get real.  It was against Baylor, whose own quarterback threw for 500+ yards.  He can't do that against a formiddable defense.  They've played Marshall, James Madison, Maryland and Baylor.  Neither one of those teams has a defense whatsoever.

With that said, he will win, bar an unforseen collapse.

^^ Yeah man, I'm more nervous about that game then the Georgia one. Im confident Gators can stop Georgia, but if Lattimore goes off it could be a rough game.

But yeah, no sense for Heismen top 10, like DnK said its a one horse race now....I'd like to see Geno go the whole season without a pick I think that'd be pretty special given the tough teams WVU has to play and how much he airs the ball out.

Looking forward to:

Texas vs Oklahoma
Stanford vs Notre Dame
LSU vs South Carolina

Personally think the Stanford/ND will be the most exciting.
Title: Re: 2012-13 College Football Thread
Post by: Justin on October 12, 2012, 02:21:56 PM
I think Geno falters this week against Texas Tech and throws 2 INTs.

I like the idea of the Stanford/ND matchup, but I honestly think Notre Dame will dominate Standford and will win by atleast 10 points.

Of course I'm looking forward to the Carolina/LSU game.  Both great defenses, but LSU's offense is nonexistent and our front four is going to reek havoc on Mettenberger.

I'm okay with the BCS standings. Although, personally, I think Notre Dame has beaten the more impressive teams out of the top 5. But these rankings have a lot to do with the preseason rankings. Another reason why rankings shouldn't be put out until Week 4 at the earliest.

But I agree with Justin, Florida has done more then Oregon.

Fuck.

Three fumbles inside the redzone.  Game was over in the first fucking quarter.  Floriday had 29 total yards in the first half and had 21 points.  Ridiculous.  Our defense is stout and our offense sucks and Spurrier sucks even more at calling plays.

Yeah, Floridas kinda the same way I guess, only punished SC BADLY on turnovers. Our d is unreal, but you guys eliminated Gillislee but Driskel for the sophomore that he is 4 TD's.

DnK's Heisman Watch - Week 8

That's right, for the first time in 4 weeks, we have a Heisman Watch update.

1. Collin Klein (QB) - Kansas State
Klein has lead Kansas State to an undefeated record this season primarily using his legs. But on Saturday on the road in a hostile environment against West Virginia, he used his arm. Passing for 323 yards and 3 TD's. Oh yeah, he did also use his legs, rushing for 41 yards and 4 TD's. He outshined fellow Heisman hopeful Geno Smith and has not jumped into the lead.

2. Geno Smith (QB) - West Virginia
After a huge September for Geno Smith, where many were already declaring him the Heisman Trophy winner (myself included), he has fallen off the map in a huge way. Against Kansas State, he threw his first 2 interceptions of the year. And for back-to-back weeks, he struggled to get the high powered Mountaineers offense in full gear. He's not out of it by any means and has plenty of chances to reclaim his top spot, but another game like the last 2 weeks might have him out of contention.

3. Manti Te'o (LB) - Notre Dame
He is the heart of the 2nd ranked defense in the nation. He is all over the place. Against BYU, he added 10 tackles, and an interception on BYU's first drive of the game. As long as Te'o and the Notre Dame defense keeps putting in performances like this and the Irish stay unbeaten, it's going to be interesting at the end of the year when they announce the Heisman winner.

4. Kenjon Barner (RB) - Oregon
All the talk in the preseason was about D'Anthony Thomas... but it's been Barner who has taken over LaMichael James' role and just like a lot of experts predicted, has done exceptionally well. Against the Sun Devils on the road... Barner rushed for 143 yards on 16 carries and 3 TD's. He's been the dynamite for the Oregon high powered offense and if he can pull off a huge 2nd half of the season, his name may be called.

5. Braxton Miller (QB) - Ohio State
Saturday was a bad day for Braxton Miller. He never really go going all game long against an average Purdue defense and then was knocked out of the game in the 3rd Quarter. Luckily for him, his back-up QB bailed him out and won the game in overtime. Still though, despite the bad game, Miller has had one of the best seasons this year for the undefeated, but not bowl eligible, Ohio State Buckeyes.

NEXT FIVE
6. AJ McCarron (QB) - Alabama
7. Matt Barkley (QB) - USC
8. Johnny Manziel (QB) - Texas A&M
9. DeAndre Hopkins (WR) - Clemson
10. Montee Ball (RB) - Wisconsin

Still think Geno has it over Klein, but its now a two horse race, with I agree Te'o coming in at 3rd. Would be nice to see the first ever defensive player to win the heisman (Woodson played a bit of offense back in the day)

I am a two time graduate of Kent State University. They beat undefeated Rutgers yesterday.

First win against a ranked opponent ever.
Leading college football with a +19 turnover margin.
Bowl eligible for the first time in almost 30 years.
First 6 game win streak since 1940.

Couple that with another Buckeyes win and I am a happy fella.

I'm very sad today. My Oregon State Beavers lost to the Fuskies of Washington. First loss of the season and prevented us from going to 7-0 for the first time in school history.

Oh well, for a team that was picked to finish last in the Pac 12... I still think we can finish strong.

1. Klein
2. Jones
3. Smith

1. Collin Klein
2. Manti Te'o

5t. Braxton Miller
5t. AJ McCarron

I would have to disagree with this one.  Te'o is an amazing linebacker.  I'm not taking anything away from Jones as he is a beast, but from tackling, covering the field, pass coverage, and run coverage I think Te'o is the better overall defender.

Te'o is a beast on defense, not only did he play a game hours after his grandfather passed away which that game was a hell of a game on top of it. Notre Dame is looking real good after that upset in Norman last week. Let see if the Fighting Irish can stay undefeated and be the first Independent School to win the BCS.

No.

Trust me here, Joker is a HECK of a nice fella. But his playcalling while he was still the OC let us know real quick that he wasn't our head coach. The on-field decisions the guy made still to this day have me scratching my head.

Also consider that Rich Brooks had Kentucky back on the right track and winning and getting in bowls when they decided to stick that ridiculous "Head Coach in Waiting" title on him (Joker). We all knew it was a mistake to try to force Brooks out, especially since he (Joker) couldn't call plays worth a dog.

Brook's last three seasons were all winners. Joker's three were all losing efforts.

And trust me, the fan support for football is there. It's a lot stronger than you think.

Agreed.

I was heartbroken to see Kent lose a shot at the BCS but its nice to see NIU still get a shot at going. May get stomped though.

In other Kent news, very classy move by the coach after accepting the Purdue job to hold a press conference at Kent and tell the team he will still be coaching for our first bowl game in 40 years. That made me smile.

And now...who wins the National Title and who wins the Heisman?

My mind says Alabama but my heart thinks Irish. And though I haven't fully bought all the hype, me thinks Johnny Football is gonna become the first freshman to win the trophy. Though I'd like Te'O.

Alabama will win.  Notre Dame has had too many woefull offensive performances against less than stellar defenses to think they will have success against Bama.  I think Bama's running game will wear down the ND defense despite how great it is and open up for McCarron to pass the ball.

Bama 24
ND 10

Alabama has a much better offense than Notre Dame and I think that will be the difference in the game. I'm cheering for ND though but I think Bama will win by a score of something like 27-17.

I also think Johnny Manziel should win the Heisman. That guy is amazing. I've become a huge fan very quickly.
