Title: Re: Someone sending email from my account

Do you see messages you did not send in the Sent Items folder?  If not no one got access to your email.  What you're experiencing is called "Backscatter" spam where people can fake the From address.  When the messages inevitably bounce, you'll get the bounce messages and it looks like someone hacked your email.  Nothing you can really do about it.

Above are some links from Ask Leo, which is run by a guy who is pretty dang smart about a lot of things and he explains in detail about what's going on.

Note:  It possible but unlikely you have a virus infected machine and they're being sent out from your computer with your email address.  That's unlikely though if you have up to date virus and malware software.

Now if you *DO* see them in your sent folder, you need to do more than change your password.  You need to set up 2-Factor authentication to stop unauthorized access to your email.  All of the major email providers now support that.  At a minimum it involves texting you a code whenever you log in from a new location or after a set number of days.

Thank you Judge!

Yes, they were in my sent folder. I have since closed out all sessions through google, changed password, and set up 2-step authentication. Haven't seen any other unauthorized mail sent out since that.

Should I do something else to help or just wait for now?

That's about all you can do now.  Also suggest getting a password manager so you don't reuse your password across different sites.  I recommend 1Password but LastPass is good too.

Will do. Thank you!

Do you have a recommended anti-virus for Mac? I use Norton now but have heard it's not the best.

Thanks again. It's really appreciated all the help you give on this site with my questions that seem to crop up every couple months.

I run ClamXAV to scan my downloads folder.  That's pretty much the only vector for attack.  It's not free though but it's recommended by a lot of folks.  Norton will drag your Mac down.
