So ive had my HP desktop for 2 years and never once had a problem with it.

Final week of my final year in college (4 major papers due) its acting all fucky. Im surprised i even got on here.

Basically I think its a virus....cause anytime I try to do anything it just goes to (Not responding) and stays like it for hours until I shut it off and try again. Like It took me 6 tries to remove all of my files (music, "adult entertainment", ect.)

Anyone know what I can do? I just finished deleting all of the files Ive downloaded and my computer is acting fine while I type this....but any time ive tried a system restore or AVG scan it works for like 5 minutes then goes to the No responding bullshit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I dont wanna toss out $50 to get it flattened and lose potentially a week of writing papers.

Might not be a virus.

Hard drive might be going out, or have bad sectors at some critical windows file that's causing it to lock up.

Start > Run > CMD then type chkdsk and follow the instructions.

Or it could actually be a virus.  Try http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ for an online virus scanner program that you don't have to install but a small software piece.

Open the "Computer" window
Right-click on the drive in question
Select the "Tools" tab
In the Error-checking area, click <Check Now>
