Alternate Realities/Universes etc.

Do you believe in these or are they merely a product of science fiction? Supposedly they would work like this for example. In this reality The north won the Civil War and slavery was ended. But in another reality the south may have won with slavery continuing on either indefinitely or until a later time when people themselves would have abolished it. You could take any example you want but their present would be altered from ours due to events playing out differently in their past.

Or in yet another reality America may have lost the revolutionary war or it may not have even taken place reducing the likelihood of the civil war taking place at least as it did in this reality it may have ended up being a second attempt to gain independence from the British as opposed to breaking off from the union.
