Ben Affleck to Direct ‘The Stand’

Warner Brothers Pictures has chosen a director for its next mega-franchise after the conclusion of its highly successful “Harry Potter” series.

According to Deadline, Ben Affleck will helm the ambitious project “The Stand.”

Affleck has directed a couple of films adored by critics including 2010’s “The Town,” and 2007’s “Gone Baby Gone.” Affleck is currently directing “Argo,” a film about the 1979 hostage crisis in Iran.

In August, it was reported that director David Yates and writer Steve Kloves were close in signing a deal with Warner Brothers for “The Stand.” However, it appeared the deal never finalized.

“The Stand” is a post-apocalyptic horror and fantasy story about a pandemic flu that leads to the death of most of the world’s human population. The rest of the human population would struggle to survive, but ended up in a confrontation with one another as a stand of good against evil.

The adaptation was successfully brought as a television mini-series in 1994, which starred Gary Senise, Molly Ringwald and Jamey Sheridan.
