Yeah but now there is no SL team to scoop them up so they are still on the team. Sure you can trade them for picks but their contracts are rather ugly.

Well to break down what actually happened.

My original protections:

Rhys, Blair, Shakers, Beast, Ford, Sanders
(Owale and Tena unprotected)

'Oh I'll trade Blair and keep Shakers'

Which was revised to

Rhys, Blair, Beast, Ford, Sanders, Owale
(Shakers and Tena unprotected)

'I'm trading Blair, can't afford to keep Shakers' (as of coming up with my plan to get Howard and Thomas)

Which THEN became

Rhys, Beast, Ford, Sanders, Owale, Tena
(Blair and Shakers unprotected)

'With that Rhys deal I can't afford the trade I was going to do for Blair'


If I'd say, sent in my second set, I would put myself in serious cap trouble when Rhys's renewal came in at way more than I was expecting to pay - and I would have just dropped a budget player, making finding that bench filler even harder.

Basically, I just don't like playing cards that I don't actually have to play, just for the sake of getting them out of the way with.

By dint of being my captain and at-the-time not thinking I had any better options.

I wasn't expecting to land both Howard and Thomas (the latter wasn't even on my radar until right before free agency). Bear in mind that the albatross of a contract aside I didn't really have much way of getting anyone better and was already in the midst of replacing Blair, who is older and actively declining.
