They do use them in Europe, except for the UK.  They still use pounds.  They're weird/difficult like that.

It's because you weren't able to colonize them like just about everyone else.

Actually, we're the only one of the major countries in Europe that has never actually tried to take over the rest of it. Our hatred of everyone else predates the empire by a long time, anyway.
