Title: Redknapp, Mandaric charged with Tax Evasion
Post by: Kenfucius on January 14, 2010, 07:18:26 PM
QuoteTottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has been charged with two counts of tax evasion.

Mr Redknapp, 62, was charged with cheating the public revenue of about £40,000, at Bishopsgate police station.

It relates to two payments totalling US $295,000 allegedly made by former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric to Mr Redknapp via a Monaco bank account.

Mr Mandaric was charged with tax evasion on Tuesday and both men are due before magistrates next month.

Mr Mandaric, 71, is currently the chairman of Leicester City.

This is a rehash of a two year old case, these charges first surfaced in 2007 and went nowhere.

Interestingly, later on in said article it was mentioned that, as Tax Evasion isn't a common law offence in the UK, the sentences and fines that could be imposed for the crime if the two are found guilty would be entirely to the judges discretion, there are no limits on either.

At this time, Spurs have stated that the incident will have no bearing on Redknapp's position at Spurs, as the issue is a private, non-football matter that predates his tenure at the club.
