Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11 is Happening

Buffy the Vampire Slayer  has been brought to life on the big screen, the small screen, and on the pages of comics. Four years after Buffy and the Scoobies saved Sunnydale (and the world) from annihilation, Dark Horse comics picked up shortly after the events at the Hellmouth from the TV series finale. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 is a 40-issue run that spawned a few spinoffs and spanned four years.

In Season 9, a 25-issue run over two years, characters from another spinoff, Angel & Faith, were regulars as Buffy and the Scoobies continued to face evil. Fans still couldn't get enough, and Angel & Faith's lead writer, Chirstos Gage, was moved to Buffy full time. Even though there were no spinoff series this time, Season 10 saw another 30 issues in two years. Joss Whedon is a fan of his fans, and couldn't just leave Buffy et al. where Season 10 ended.

In a press release, Dark Horse comics announced that Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11 will be available this fall. The series will see the return of Gage along with artist Rebekah Isaacs as Buffy and the Scoobies get back to taking on the supernatural. When speaking about Whedon's love of these characters, Gage said:


"Buffy fans have been wonderful to Rebekah and me throughout Season 10, so I couldn't be more excited to keep our creative team together for Season 11! True to form, Joss is not content to just rest on his well-earned laurels, so Season 11 will shake things up with a story that's shorter, bigger, more epic, and presents what may be the greatest challenge Buffy and the Scoobies have ever faced. We hope the readers will enjoy the ride!"



Here's the official synopsis of Season 11:

"After overcoming the struggles of Season 10, Buffy and the Scoobies give themselves a well-deserved break from fighting evil. Unfortunately, the momentary peace comes to a screeching halt when a supernatural disaster wreaks havoc on the citizens of San Francisco, and the gang is forced to save the world from imminent doom, again."

In an exclusive interview with USA Today, Gage also revealed that a world-changing apocalyptic event will be the arc that sets things in motion: "It's the way the world changes that will provide new challenges for Buffy and the Scoobies, of a kind they've never faced before." Fans that have kept up with these characters for well over a decade now will find that Spike and Buffy are trying to make being a couple work (again), the team has moved to San Francisco, and there will be new challenges and new characters.

Fans attending SDCC are in for a free treat because they can find Christos Gage signing at the Dark Horse booth (#2615) on Thursday, July 21st at 1pm and Joss Whedon at their booth on Saturday, July 23rd at 5pm. Check the Dark Horse schedule to see if wristbands are required.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11 is a 12 issue run with the first on sale November 23rd, 2016.
