20th Century Fox to Make "Choose Your Own Adventure" Movie

20th Century Fox and producer John Davis (Predator, I Robot) are nearing a deal to acquire the rights to a series of book, called "Choose Your Own Adventure," which allowed readers to choose the path of the characters every few pages, with the decision leading to different fates.

The concept came from Edward Packard, who tried and failed several times to get a book off the ground. In 1975, he partnered with RA Montgomery, then an aspiring author and publisher. The initial books had modest sales, and it wasn't until Montgomery made a deal with Bantam Books in the late 1970s that the series became a huge hit, inciting spin-offs and imitators.

The books lasted until the late 1990s, with over 180 titles and 250 million units sold worldwide.

Fox will have all screen rights to the property and will be able to adapt it for multiple platforms. It's not clear how a film based on the concept would work, but there's definite potential for home entertainment. Stay tuned.

Crazy Kyd

I read about this a few years ago, before anyone wanted to acquire the rights. I'm guessing this will be straight to video and I think these could become a mild success, if marketed correctly.

Would be pretty easy to do on DVD/Blu Ray.  Can't imagine it in a theater though.

if you  scale it down , you can do in the theater , you use  only a few paths and show the people what happens if they did this or if they did that ... one the bad way and you show it first and the our the right way ...

Remember they did this so what with CLUE back in the 80's . They have three different endings  for the movie .  one for East coast , One for the mid-west and one for the West Coast .  all the clues were there , lead to three different endings .

But yeah , DVD/ Blu-ray  is prefect for this

Love  these books ,  I actually try to find them when I get the chance too

Yeah, but you're not really choosing anything.  You're passively watching both potential outcomes.  With DVD/Blu Ray, at the end of a chapter you can be given the option to choose what chapter you want to go to next.  Hence, an actual choice.
