TKO's or Submissions

Which to you prefer and why?

With me it depends on the fighters,  Like Forrest I like the knockouts.

but I love watching people get submitted. Reason why is because most fighters hate to be submitted because in their mind they think being submitted is like they quit, I find it interesting to watch two submission specialist fight because neither one want to be the one to quit.

Without a doubt its all about the knockouts for me... I love to see the shocking blow finishing the fight out of no where. The whole way I got into UFC/MMA was when a guy loaned me UFC ultimate knockouts DVD and I was hooked. Dont get me wrong I do enjoythe majority of the bouts, which ever way they end but TKO/KO are deffo my favourite.

Whatever gets the job done, from a fighters perspective it depends on who you are fighting. If you have decent standup but your opponent has amazing KO power then it would not be in best interest for you the fighter to stand up and brawl with him. If you have the wrestling and/or jits skills than take it to the ground and control him and work for a submission.

From a fans perspective, everyone loves a good stand up brawl and a good KO, but fighters shouldn't worry too much about being exciting as it could cost them the fight, take Phil Baroni for example.

Cory

Depends who's doing it.

If you have a guy looking for the submission all the time, the fight will go to the ground, and will be a 'chess match', resulting in boo's and a very boring fight if the fighter is unable to get the submission, but somehow managed to stay on top of the other for the round.

If you have a Fedor or Yamamoto or Anderson Silva who can beat you up, then once you're down submit you, then it's very exciting.

Knockouts can be the same as my first point for the submissions. If they try to counter attack, but neither does anything (Vera/Andy last night) the fight will be very boring, and people will change the channel, or yell for wasting $50 on the event.

If you have a Wanderlei Silva, Gomi, blast from the past in Don Frye, or recent 'lamb to the slaughter' in James Irvin, who go for the quick knockout, or stand and have wars with the other guy, and a knockout will be arriving shortly, then it's very exciting.

To answer your question, it's all a matter who's fighting.

I agree with Cory.

But to answer the topic starters question of which do I prefer, it don't matter lol. I enjoy all aspects of the game, even fights that people find boring I enjoy.

I've been doing martial arts for a long time (since i was about 4), and I just recently began training in Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai and BJJ at a place called Triple Boxing in Woodstock GA. I have a different perspective on the fights than the average fan might have in the sense that I won't boo when a fight is not very 'exciting', similar to the japanese MMA fans in the sense that I respect any fighter, even when Kalib Starnes was running around the cage, I might have lost some respect for Kalib on his attitude post-fight but I still respect him none the less. Anyone that trains in a fighting art, when they watch fights they are studying every single movement and trying to anticipate what is coming next, they are trying to learn new things that they could add to their game.

Everyone whether your a casual fan, hardcore fan, or a fighter you love to see a good knock out. I personally love seeing a good technical fight rather than a brawl, but that's just me.

Level-One

I'm fairly new to the sport. I've been watching it for sometime, but I haven't really been into it, like I am now. I usually watched the main-events/big fights and what not, but now I'm tuning into the whole cards and what not.

With that said; I'd have to say a great knock out as me jumping out of my chair, in excitement. I tend to like to watch a stand up fight, with a fair amount of ground work. When there's too much of either one, it tends to get boring for me.

I'd go for the submission. Lock in a solid arm bar, which has the guy tapping, and I'm a happy camper.  :D

Man Silva's knockout was amazing and to see Fedor man-handle Sylvia and make him tap was also amazing.

AudiblyOffensive

I'm actually a fan of the submission. You have to get the guy in the perfect position to submit him... especially with something crazy. We saw Dollaway do that to Taylor this weekend. Anyone that gets caught in a triangle or a Gogoplata... impressive. Matt Hughes catching Frank Trigg in a rear naked TWICE.

You've gotta be slick to do that.

Knockouts at best give you cuts like this one on Marvin Eastman (from UFC 43's fight with Vitor Belfort)

Submissions can give you Frank Mir snapping Tim Sylvia's arm.

I rest my case.

TaNK

Doesn't matter to me, I've seen great fights with the results being both submission and knockout.
