The topic of drugs in sport was really interesting. I have a lot of thoughts on it, both as a parent, and as someone who sees the ridiculous amount of importance sports hold in America (you guys did touch on the pedestal thing, but not on the pressures in college and scholarships on the line etc). For example the highest paid people in American colleges and universities are not the principals or the councellors or the professors. No the highest paid person in an American university is the football coach. And these cunts will do anything to justify their ridiculous wages, and if drugs become acceptable in sports then there will be nothing thought of pushing them on the college athletes. Hell if coaches and the likes go out of their way to cover up rapes and sex scandals, you think they will loose any sleep on telling your kid to juice up or lose his scholarship?

I know, thats a very deep and dark side of it, but it's out there. That is a problem with society in general, not just drugs in sport but if it is ever allowed at the top it will absolutely trickle down to all levels.

But yeah on a happier note, great show, flew by ;D

They are the highest paid because they generate the most for their colleges.  Simple economics.  It's always why I never get made for professional players to get as much money as they can.  If anything that's a reason why kids should get paid in college because they are just as equal in quantifying both the coaches salary and the schools endowment.

Justin

As someone who turned down a basketball scholarship to focus on academics amd actually having a life in college,  I agree with Pancho. Athletics bring in the most money for schools which is how they quantify the huge contracts. Furthermore, college players should absolutely get paid. Its impossible to have a job as a college athlete and the only person you can accept money from is essentially your parents which for me personally my parents didn't have money like that.

Gravedigger

The reason sports, especially football, are the big money makers is that they have a fanbase that doesn't only include students and alumni. Colleges have thousands, or millions, of fans that didn't attend the school, yet probably spend just as much on apparel, tickets, memorabilia, etc....

Drama Queen

Ok, my post was more to do with it in relation to the drugs in sport topic, but I seemed to have sparked off another topic completely, which is probably good material for the next show?

For the record I don't personnally have a fully formed opinion on whether college athletes should get paid. (I just don't want them pressured into taking performance enhancers)

Duckman

When education is commercialised. Is that the basic idea you guys are talking about? I don't know enough about the US college sports system. But it appears you guys are describing a commercial operation. With big money involved. Is that right, or have I totally missed the point? Good topic for the show too!

No, in this case it's the importance of big time revenue generating sports and the lack of focus on education.

That's it. I couldn't quite think of how to sum it up but Justin nailed it. However it is just one of many many issues with college education in America.

I work for a community college so id be interested in hearing your other issues as I have some as well.

Drama Queen

Just the plain and simple fact that college has become such an automatic way of life. Everybody is expected to go, get into huge debt and end up taking a shitty job that has nothing to do with what they studied for and does not pay enough to get out of said debt. And it's all done under the mantra of "stay in school kids, education is important".

It's one of those things that has become so far removed from its purpose but that we are so conditioned to go through the motions that we don't question it. Like voting in elections, or signing kids up for little league. The world has changed and these concepts have not adapted enough to be relevant, but yet they are all classed in this whole "being American, making our forefathers proud" bullshit that nobody knows how to speak out against them without sounding like some anti-American radical.

Duckman

MFX114 – One Man and his Dolphin.

The only podcast that Kanye West is happy to see beat Beyoncé to an award is back for another week!  Join your heroes Duckman and Sir Ian Trumps as they traverse the week in this weird world we live in.  On the show this week...

Duckman experiences the wonders of Glasgow's buskers.  Sir Ian and his wife attend a bird sanctuary and meet Natural Trust hippies that freak Sir Ian out.  Plus they stumble upon a pigeon immigration issue that divides the bird population.

All your emails are answered.  The lads talk the recent Premier League football TV deal and what it means to the game in general and whether or not the Premier League should share their wealth with the rest of football.

Seth Rollins' cock gets a lot of coverage this week.  And the question of whether or not dick pictures are a good idea is answered.  The answer is no, they're not a good idea.  Plus UKIP: The First 100 Days makes the lads almost feel sympathy for UKIP – which is never a good thing.

Duckman discovers a news story about a man and his forbidden love, Dolly.  She's a dolphin.  This leaves the lads creased with laughter and questioning just how weird humans can be.

The show is wrapped up with the single most controversial Try Hard Ruler of the Week Award in history.  This one is going to cause a riot!

As always, thanks for listening.  Get in touch with the show through all the usual channels.  Join the forums.  Buy some merch and shill the shit out of this show like you've never shilled before!!

Goldferg

We've just done a 'who killed Lucy Beale' sweepstake in the office. Random draw gave me Denise.

... so now I'm on the side of DC Nick Farridge, apparently  ???

Becoming a super beast with a tendency for high octane flying shits...its a lifestyle choice.

Goldferg

So, with the recent Ruler being awarded...
Do we now call Duckman 'Quack Lesnar'?
ToneCold

Of all the people to be BamBam's Brock Lesnar, did not expect
Duckman
! Don't think it 'controversial' though.

Knew mine wouldn't win (though it was pointed out as being TryHardian on the part of the Druglords, which was my angle on it) but soon as I heard the one for the MFX Galaxy, I had that down as a winner.

A great consequence of this:
Sir Ian now gets to be Duckman's Paul Heyman, the 1 behind the 1 in 4-1. Expect lines next week about My Client Duckman Who Conquered The Streak.
That's the bottom line coz Tone Cold said so...
