Post by: Cory on May 15, 2010, 05:00:17 PM
Alright so without further adue, the first every EFK Football Draft Game.

As with every game well mention the rules beforehand.

1) 24 hours between picks, dont miss this.
2) 2 Strikes are you'll be removed from the game, and all of your drafted players become available to draft for everyone else.
3) No duplicate picks please.
4) Trades can occur after the draft is completed.
5) Following the draft, make your formation, and once all teams have been submitted, I'll open a poll and the EFKers can vote on who has the best team.
6) Snake draft, starting from the randomized list from Random.org.

Your free to have your own formation, and we're only doing the starting XI. You must have:

Mandatory 1 Goalkeeper

Designate 1 player as your captain.

Draft Rounds will be:

5. Bundisliega
6. Ligue 1
7. Retired (Alive or Dead, please put Era that player played in.)
8. Youngin' (Player has to be 21 or younger)
9. Old Timer (Player has to be 32 or older, and ACTIVE)
10. ANY PLAYER TO MEET REQUIREMENTS

Boom, first time I've ever got first in one of these drafts.

So, with my pick I'll take:

Didier Drogba, ST, Chelsea

For me it was between Drogba and Rooney, and Rooneys inability to score in big games, and Drogbas ability to come up clutch in big games, gives him the nod. Plus the constant aerial threat and unmatched strenght he brings, I'll take the power striker and reigning Premier League Leading scorer with my first pick.

Sams up.

If Ash has missed his go.

Michael Essien. The guy is a beast; strong, fast, and intelligent. Can pass a ball, handle pretty much any player, and has the odd flash of brilliance.

Balls - Cory beat me to it heh.

Well, seeing as Sam picked who I wanted to go for, there's really only one alternative.

Cesc Fabregas.

So seeing as I'm next anyways, I figured I'd keep this rolling so Duckman can go next ASAP.

Btw, Cory - in the any player round is it any active player or any player full stop? I ask because the latter obviously leaves picks open to be retired players, so it could affect the strategy some people approach the round with.

French U21 Captain Sakho and Benoit who will probably be dazzling Serie A next season with his crosses which put him among the top assist men in the league last season.

A world class goalkeeper who has performed at the highest level for nearly 2 decades and continues to do so.

Two absolute defensive legends at the heart of the defend.  Both icons of world football.  Two of the quiest and most exciting young full backs in the world today.

A total football Dutch central midfield with two of this year's Champions League finalists at the heart of the team.  A ball winner and a flair player to link to the forward line.  One of the greatest players of the Brazil 1970 World Cup winning side and the top scorer in that tournament on one wing.  On the other, the Belgian teenage sensation who has been likened to Lionel Messi in this year - one of the top attacking prospects in all of Europe.

Up front?  Simply the best striking partnership in international football today.  The two men who's goals took Spain to the European Championships title in 2008.  In Torres an almost unstoppable, quick, powerful and skillful centre forward.  A man who you can build a team around and a man who will score goals, lots and lots of very, very good goals!

In David Villa a man who is second in Spain's all time top scorer list behind the great Raul.  Statistics (based on goal importance and the tournament they were scored in) demonstrate Villa to be the most prolific goalscorer in the world between 2005â€"2009, seeing the back of the net over 156 times.  A man who will be a leading light at the World Cup this year and his recent 35 million Euro move to Barcelona only highlights his incredible talent and value to his team.

Yep, I'm happy with that!

Peace

Just put that here then once everyones submitted (Sam's already good) ill make a new thread with a poll for voting.

Studmuffins FC

GK- Oliver Kahn (1997-2002)
LB- Maicon
CB- Nevan Subotic
CB- Walter Samuel
RB- Michel Bastos

BACKLINE
-- So you take the greatest german keeper of all time. The only keeper to win the Golden Ball (2002 World Cup best player), not to mention 4 consecutive UEFA Best Goalkeeper Awards, 2 German footballer of the year awards, 8 German championships, and one Champions League title, Oliver Kahn isn't just one of the best keepers ever, he also knows how to win and play under that 'big game pressure'.

Then my 2 wing backs, you have the best current Left-Back in the world is Maicon, a player who netted 6 Goals for Inter in 09-10, and aside from his offensive side, hes a total shutdown wing back for both Inter and Brazil. His partner is a fellow Brazillian in Lyons Michel Bastos, who is easily the most offensive wing back in the world today. A man who can play winger, he netted 15 goals for Lyon in 09-10...yes 15, and his speed and raw power should also be mentioned, along with his sick set pieces.

Then in the middle of the two, we have Nevan Subotic, who is the best CB prospect in the world, at just 20 years old, this 6'4" netted 7 goals in 09-10 in the Bundislegia, and looks to start for Serbia in the World Cup. Many have compared him to his Serbia counterpart Vidic. Then finishing out my backline, the most powerful defender in the world today. Walter Samuel is a fucking rock, he can bully any striker you put in front of him and take them completely out of the game, he has flawless tackling, and is a very smart player. Netting 4 goals in 09-10, he can contribute on offense, but coming off the 09-10 season, Samuel was on almost everyone's Team of the Year.

CM- Roy Keane (C) (1997-2003)
CM- Patrick Viera (1997-2004)
LW- Lionel Messi
RW- Franck Ribery
CAM- Zinedine Zidane (1998-2004)

MIDFIELD
-- In the middle of the park, you're not going to get any balls through my middle, maybe not even be walking properly afterwards. The partnership of Roy Keane and Patrick Viera, both circa 1997-2003, would fear any player. Both were ruthless tacklers and leaders. Keane has excellent ball control and could play the play up to the wingers from the backline, and Viera would win everything in the air....EVERYTHING. They both can put the ball into the back of the net Keane (57), Viera (47) but they're just going to hold on my team, and stop everyone else s attack.

Then without a doubt I have the best wingers. Messi and Ribery, both who are top 5 players in the world, both are almost unmarkable. Do I even need to explain how good these two players are? Ribery is an absloute playmaker, making everyone around him better. He has like 20+ assists in his last 3 seasons with Bayern Munich, and Messi is the best player in the world at the moment. Messi scored 47 goals in 09-10, 38 Goals in 08-09. There isn't a better player on the planet today, nuff said. Once were dont beating you up in the middle, well feed the ball out to the wings and let them do the damage.

Oh yeah, aside from the 47 goal scorer, we have arguable the greatest footballer of all time, Zinedine Zidane. Yet another player who I dont think needs any summary of how good he is. Hes won a world cup, a euro cup, champions league, the only 3 time Fifa Player of the Year. His ball control, touch, vision, and finishing were unmatched, and him combined with Messi and Ribery, is game over. He also has a pretty mean headbutt.

ST- Didier Drogba

FORWARD
-- Finally, we come to the defintion of a power striker. If you not english bias, Drogba was the best player in the premier league in 09-10 with 29 goals winning the golden boot in the EPL, not Rooney. Drogba netted 37 goals in total in 09-10, and is consistanly a top 5 striker in the world. His power is unmatched, and hes a deadly threat in the air. Drogba combined with my attacking mids will beat any team. If you're too busy covering the relentless pace on my wingers, they're just feed the ball into Drogba to finish.

GK - GIANLUIGI BUFFON
You cannot deny that Buffon is one of the best keepers ever.  Pele, his team mate, notes that Buffon is one of the best keepers ever in his top 125. And a record 9 Goalkeeper of the Year awards in Serie A, as well as a two time Serie A winner, a World Cup winner and a UEFA Cup winner. He has been woefully unlucky because of Juve's decline which was no fault of his own. Possibly one of the most world renowned keepers in the world, and considering he's still only 32, which is fairly young for a keeper, he has many seasons ahead of him. The number of awards he has won in his career truly goes to show how good he is. A commanding keeper that will look to concentrate on his keeping abilities, considering his captain John Terry will control the back four.

DR - CAFU
DL - GEORGIO CHIELLINI
DC - SERGIO RAMOS
DC - JOHN TERRY (Captain)
Cafu and Chiellini will sporadically bomb down the wings to help their team mates on the wing, but more often than not they will stay within the half way line area. They are quick, determined and very hard workers. Both will perform extraordinary cover for Terry and Ramos, who are considered two of the best central defenders in the world at the moment. Terry, has achieved a high level of success with Chelsea, whilst Ramos, Chiellini and Cafu have with every time they've been with. A defense needs to be tight, strict and very well organised. Each of these players went through their career known for each of these skills.

MC - DAVID BECKHAM
MC - CESC FABREGAS
MC - YOANN GOURCUFF
Since playing in the middle of the park with AC Milan, Beckham has discovered a new sense of form, and with Fabregas and Gourcuff who will control the play and look to dictate every aspect of the game in the middle of the park, Beckham is given the freedom to go about his usual playmaking play by setting the ball through the middle of the park, using his fantastic abilities to just cut a defense in half. But that's not to discredit Cesc and Yoann, both of whom can play killer balls and look all the time to get the ball through the defense. With three of the best strikers in the game, past, present and future, there is a ball for all types of player from this midfield. The midfield's supply into the strikers will be impossible to deal with.

S - MARIO BALOTELLI
S - PELE
S - RUUD VAN NISTELROOY
Balotelli will take a more left sided role whilst Ruud on the right. With Pele in the middle he will have balls threaded through to him from both sides and from all angles of the midfield. Mario has a fantastic eye for goal when he operates on the side of an attack and Nistelrooy has been instrumental at both scoring and working with a partner up front. I think now, with him becoming an older striker, he will look more and more to passing the ball. But he's always there to take a run in and score. But don't forget Pele, he's the highest goal scorer of all time. He will latch onto anything that's coming toward him and score, so with 5 playmakers we go back in time to Brazil's truly memorable attacking football.

This time is all about the beautiful game. Precision will cut defenses open and the wingers will not be able to stand a chance against full backs who  have the ability to come down the wing and win the ball. It's all about the centre of the park though, and with a hand on the game and a ball played through the middle or across to the wing for Balotelli and Nistelrooy, there will be no problem with getting the ball into the box. And then after that it's all down to Pele to knock it in and start again.

Tactical Ethos

This teams style of play is not going to be too technical, the balance of attack and defense will be the base for the array of individual abilities.

Goalkeeper:- Hugo Lloris

There is no doubt in my mind that this guy will be the best keeper in the world at some point in the future. Currently he is 23 years old, and holds the number one shirt for his country and his club. Quickly becoming one of the most reliable 'keepers in Europe, exposure in his first World Cup will highlight to every football fan out there that he is a world class goalkeeper.

Defense: - Dani Alves, Lucio, Ronal Koeman, Gareth Bale

Despite his talents Lloris is the most inexperienced goalkeeper picked so he needs experienced, composed, and talented centrebacks in front of him. With Lucio and Koeman that is exactly what he will get; Lucio is currently one of the strongest defenders in the world, he has been playing at the top level for the majority of his career, who has winners medals for practically every competition he has played in. Koeman is Lucio's counterpart, not as strong or as effective in the air, but a great man-marker and a fantastic passer of the ball. He will often be the first step of attack, his passing ability the initial link between defense and attack. In contrast to those two are this teams fullbacks,  their role is simply to support the attack when the ball is in the oppositions half. Dani Alves is often regarding as the best attacking fullback in the world to-date, only his fellow countryman Maicon has been seen as matching his ability. With Gareth Bale the team gets a very similar player, his a bit green, but he has shown this season gone that he is a star in the making, he will be one of the best leftbacks in the world in five years, no doubt.

Midfield:- Gennaro Gattuso(Captain), Michael Essien

With this team comes alot of creative play, with players not having to stay strictly to their positions. The role of Gattuso & Essien is key to what will bring control, and ultimatly, success. Both similar players in their workrate, strength and defensive abilities, with perhaps Essien having abit more technical ability about him. When out of possession Gattuso's main role is to be the ball winner, to bite at the heels of any player who comes within his vicinity, he will communicate with both the defense and his midfield partners. Essien's role when the team is without possession will be man-marking, he has proven in the past he can mark the most creative players out of the game, the aim being to nulify any opposition playmakers, with Essien marking them they won't be able to dictate mcuh play, especially with Gattuso closing down most possibilities of a clean pass. Whilst in possession the roles for both Essien and Gattuso become much more defensive, they will fill the void the fullbacks leave when they join the attack, where on a counter attack they have the chance to disrupt it and give the fullbacks the chance to get back into position.

Attack:- Zico, Arjen Robben, Diego Maradonna, Johan Cruyff

A versatile, adaptable attacking line-up, all three capable of taking the ball out to the flanks, aswell as finding space through the middle. All three have the technical ability to bring fear to any oppositions defence, fantastic with ball at their feet, the vision to create space and carve out oppertunities for their team-mates.

There will be no long ball football with this team, just a simple plan. Short, quick passing to the feet when in possession, with players have the option to lay it off to several players switching positions and overlapping around them. The initial focus of play would be through the middle, the likes of Cruyff & Robben drawing fullbacks central and allowing further options with our attacking fullbacks. This tactic of play would be effective against the majority of teams out there, but particularly so against a team of a more attacking nature, for what they compensate in that department our attack would simply destroy a simple flat-back defense.

GK - Lev Yashin

- Voted best goalie of the 20th century and probably has more than a shout at best goalkeeper ever. Hell, the award for best goalie of the world cup is named after this guy. Named in multiple all time dream teams and has 150 penalty saves to his name. Honestly, Yashin's accolades are as long as my arm. I'm just gonna stop here and say with the Black Spider in goal, any other team is going to have a lot of trouble scoring.

DR - Javier Zanetti
DC - Souleymane Diawara
DC - Carles Puyol
DL - Philipp Lahm

- Especially with a defence like this one. The most capped player in the history of Argentina and although he's getting on a bit, Zanetti is still capable of starting for Inter, making him an asset at the back and going forward. Similarly, Lahm can make those runs down the left, getting the ball forward but fully capable of contributing in the defence. Centrally we've got... some French guy I know nothing about except that he was in the Ligue 1 team of the year and plays for the double winners Marseille, so he can't be too shite. Annd Carles Puyol - named multiple times as the best European centre back, captain of Barca and an overall defensive rock. This back four has plenty of support for the offence, as well as having players capable of tightening things up and weathering the storm if necessary.

MR - Stanley Matthews
MC - Frank Lampard
MC - Xavi
ML - Luka Modric

- This midfield is where we clinch it. Creative masterclass. Frank Lampard in an offensive role will be able to both go for goal himself and pick out killer balls, whilst on the defence is tenacious enough to give a strong contribution there too. Xavi as the key playmaker is amongst the best in the world at that role and in central midfield will be able to more or less run the show. Modric on the wing is another player with considerable ability to pick a pass and make runs if necessary. Stanley Matthews on the opposite side, well... one of the best players ever, a class dribbler, fully capable of running just about any fullback ragged if he needs to. Nuff said.

FC - Ferenc Puskas
FC - Thomas Müller

- Müller, although currently still young, has proven he's capable of finding the net for Bayern Munich and is at least in the provisional squad for Germany this world cup. However let's make no bones about it, we all know that the guy who'll be banging in the goals is Puskas. Amongst the top scorers of the 20th century: 515 goals in 533 club games, 84 goals in 85 internationals. With Puskas up front, once he gets the ball, you know that it's more than likely going to end up in the net.

The team will definitely have an attacking mentality, with the build more than likely coming from midfield and the flair of the four players in there. Still, there's the option of a counter attack from defence, which both Lahm and Zanetti are capable of initiating, but really, the objective is to work something from midfield, getting it forward whether through dribbling or a simple passing play, and from there up to the strikeforce. And hey, with the concentration on Puskas, Müller might be able to sneak one in, lol. Certainly they'll both have plenty being created for them, it's just down to whether they can take advantage.

Ian’s Team...
THE ‘PITCH’ OF WHY THESE MEN LINE UP AS THE BEST TEAM ON THE PITCH!

GK - Peter Schmeichel

I don’t expect many young bucks to know the name Schmeichel, but a few of the older farts like me will. This man without a doubt is the greatest keeper to ever set foot between two posts. Despite the numerous trophies he won with United, despite the fact he was capped an incredible 129 times for his native Denmark including helping them win Euro 1992. For me United have NEVER and will NEVER have a keeper of this quality, in fact I challenge anyone to find me a keeper in the Premiership since its inception that has been more consistent than Schmeichel. I will tell you a story of a fan of this man. I can remember back in the 90s, Newcastle had built an incredible side and under the guise of Geordie retard King Kev were seriously threatening United to win the league. In a famous match that to this day I remember for the two reasons...the first being United had one sniff at goal that from memory Eric Cantona converted from...the other being Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer BATTERED the United goal for 45 minutes of the match and the man keeping them at bay was this guy. Honestly he put on a goal keeping clinic. Not even Van Der Saar in my mind comes close to the man known as The Great Dane

DR -  Lillian Thuram
Capped 142 times by the French, Thuram is considered by many to be one of the great RBs in the history of the game. Scoring wasn’t his fortay, but strong play down the flank and a gritty determination to win makes him an easy choice for the Ian XI based on complementing with his strong defence stance the pace of the teams LB.

DC - Jamie Carragher
He’s a complete cunt and he is a scouser...and it pains me to say this...but Carragher is a damn fine defender...so good that despite International retirement Fabio Cappello begged him to reconsider for the World Cup.

DC -  Mamadou Sakho

French Youth Captain and one of the rising stars in the game, Sakho has been linked with a move abroad next season. He will learn a lot from Carragher and was a sleeper pick in the round selected by Ian

DL -  Benoît Trémoulinas
From left back finished 3rd in the league in assists...also like Sakho is rumoured to be moving to Italy next season with Juvie being top suitors...young, pacey and a great compliment with Sakho to have a youthful left side of defence.

MR - Cristano Ronaldo

This winking cunt and most expensive player in the world was a tough choice to make...given the way he shafted United in the arse it was hard to do, but you can’t not say this man is a legend in the making. The guy scored plenty of goals for United, is an incredible talent and is doing the same at Madrid

MC - Marek Hamsik
Fast emerging to be the must have centre midfielder of the summer...Hamsik can strike a ball, he can defend well and is a complete player. Reminds me of a young Roy Keane

MC - Bastian Schweitsteiger

Moving this versatile midfielder into the centre of the park was no easy move, but the industrious German in all aspects of European football proved this year why he is the name on the tip of German tongues. If the Germans can pull off another dynasty, Basitan will be key to this. His fiercely loyal disposition means a must have for moral and leadership in the middle of the park. The Ian XI once more will rely on its winger play with Bastian and Hamsik holding the ball in midfield looking to flood the channels where Ronaldo and this man wait...

ML - George Best

He could have 16 beers at half time and still score a hattrick. Legends of him being pissed and scoring goals are more real than folklore and the magician who Ryan Giggs would find himself constantly compared to is a true United legend and the real deal. Controversial on both sides of the wings...these individual talents lay forward for the greatest striking combo in recent memory

FC -  Wayne Rooney

Most complete footballer in the world...best hope of winning the world cup for England and a legend at 24...nough said

FC -  Eric Cantona
Before there was Rooney and also just before United were reliant on the likes of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke came Kung FU Eric. Took no shit from anyone including faggot based Palace fans and scored goals for fun. A man who retired at the top of his game looking to spring Rooney for those through balls...to help channel the play for Ronaldo and Best on the wings...or just pick it up and do some Eric magic all the way to the back of the net.

Choice is obvious fellas...Ian’s 11

You could have those teams but then again wouldn't you rather back a team who will entertain AND win? That is why MDKFC is finger licking good. Here is why...

GK: Julio Cesar - A man who has been present for all five of Inter's titles, a man who has taken Toldo and Gomes and made them second choice for club and country. A man who no doubt will be classified as one of the greats in the future. Baloon DOr nominee, greatest keeper of 2009. Cracking agility and guile make him ideal for the greatest defence ever.

LB: Roberto Carlos (circa 2001-2004) - Rob's reaction said it all. The greatest left back of all time, the man with 125 caps for Brazil, UEFA team of the year 2 years running, Golden Foot winner and the scorer of THAT free kick against France. Roberto Carlos has a wealth of experience to bring to MDKFC and as long as his shoelaces are tied, he will have no qualms marking anybody out of this game.

CB: Bobby Moore - Another World Cup winner... and this team just gets better doesn't it? A man who could read the game like no other. The dawn of a new breed of defender and a man ahead of his time. What he lacked in pace he made up for in an instinctive knowledge of the game and where the ball was going to be. 2 Assists in the World Cup final, one of the most iconic tackles in the World CUp and you are looking at my captain

CB: Per Mertesacke - 6'6" clean tackling, impressive scoring efficient German. Who better to partner the best of British? Per is going to be up there with the greats in years to come with his clean efficient tackles and being patnered with Mr Moore will teach him a lot.

RB: Gary Neville - PFA Team of the year regular. Mr Reliable and a core part or the Manchester Utd squad. Red Nev is the reason Schmeichel was so good... passionate about his club, I hope he displays that passion for MDKFC

LM - Victor Moses - Pace AND a final product? Tell me it isn't so! Victor Moses is the hottest English prospect in years and now is his chance to prove his worth by being placed into such a stellar squad. Again, Rob can vouch for this man...

AM - Kaka - Quite simply a genius and adds to my attacking options in this solid midfield. Kaka is without question one of the greatest players of all time. Pace skill and a finished product, this Balon D'Or winner deserves better treatment thn this,

CM - Alfredo Di Stefano (Late 1950s Version) - Pwerful, Versatile and vision that was without compare. Double Balon D'or winner and the greatest player to not have played in a world cup. One of Real Madrid's icons and the wall of my midfield!

RM - Luis Figo - 1989 - 2009 - What kudos hasn't been given to this man? He's yet another BallonD'Or winner, part of the Fifa 100, was part of the World Cup All Star team in 2006, player of the year, world player of the year. His vision and workrate was second to none and who else would you like feeding into my strike duo?

ST - Carlos Tevez - Tenacious, pugnacious, vintage Tevez. This man is like a dog with a ball but unlike Theo Walcott who has been classified as that, Tevez is something special and has an end product. Nobody can deny this man's passion for playing football and the man is going to be one of the greats in years to come.

ST - Fernando Morientes - Great in the air, greaat eye for goal, Fernando Morientes is perfect to partner Tevez up front who will provide as well as score meaning the goals will rain in from all over the park. The transfer to Liverpool was bad but then again he was playing for the scouse cunts so who can blame him for not having a good season? You can't deny the man's ability and my Latin flavour football will appeal to anybody as it's attractive and effective.

So there you go, classic formation, focus on the pace of the wings and the strength of my central midfield. Nothing is beating my defence but you cannot deny the calibre of my squad.
