NFL Debate: Who would you have as your QB

Ian "Wolfie" Trumps

Personally I think the critics of Romo are incredibly hard on him. I also don't think he has a set of consistent weapons on offense outside the TE who has been horrendous for the first part of the season.

The purpose of this thread was to create a franchise. Half the guys on here as I stated are coming towards the end of their careers in the NFL. Why would I want to start a LA franchise with a guy who has 2 years left in him. Call me the Colts, but at some stage you have to usher out the old and usher in the new.

My second point is with guys like Luck and Griffin is they are somewhat unproven in the league at the moment. Have they helped their franchises so far? Your right they have, but are either the Redskins or Colts expecting INSTANT success from either of these guys? In my opinion no they are not...the lack of pressure means they can go out there and win some. What happens in Season 2 when these teams expect? That again is why I wouldn't take either of them.

Dalton to me was very underrated compared to the flash and bang of Cam Newton and is overlooked for being a pretty poised man behind centre. He is also still learning in this league, but the team had enough faith in him to oust their best QB since Boomer Esiason (Palmer) and give the ball to Dalton.

Jay Cutler is a cunt and I can admit that being a Bears fan, but fuck me sideways I'd be pissed as well if the offensive line was letting me be sacked and hurried as much as he has been and up until this season...their serious WR depth was a former CB/return specialist named Devin Hester and fricking Earl Bennett who looks only half decent on a hook route.

Romo hasn't got Emmitt Smith...he hasn't got Michael Irvin or I am struggling to remember the TE (want to say Novacek, but I am getting old). He has an inconsistent run game, supbar offensive line and Dez Bryant and a defense which in pockets is ok, but not consistent either. He is also playing with the expectation of a billion dollar stadium or whatever its worth and the largest flat screen TV in the world. I don't think given what he has and what he has to life up to he has done that bad. Again he should be on the list at least.

Matthew Stafford...Sam Bradford, both young guys who have proven to be pretty solid so far in the NFL and certainly guys you could build a franchise from and guess what...they are young! Christian Ponder for me has defied all negative criticism of himself. The Vikings were picked to finish bottom of the NFC North and like it or not he has been a key factor amongst others for their emergence.

The thing I'd look at here over everything is I want a young guy who has proven he can handle it in the NFL. As much as I like the look of Luck and Griffin...they are like 5 games into their careers without a shit ton of pressure...yet. As much as obvious choices like Rogers, Brady, Big Rapist and the Mannings spring to mind...I am building a franchise from scratch.

So despite the questions of how mad is this English American Football fan...I say have a think about what I have pointed out. :)

Further to this if I was forced by torture to pick from the last Cor gave I'd go with Ryan. I have watched him a bit as my regular US jaunts take me over to Georgia and am forced to watch either the Falcons or the Redskins (family I stay with are from VA).

Then again the interesting thing about Ryan...amount of weapons around him. Does that make him a franchise QB or the Falcons just a bloody good franchise?

Watch the end of that Redskins/Vikings games...and the answer is obviously RG3. Unbelievable.

Still think Eli is the obvious choice. Wins the big games. And is just getting into the prime of his career.

I'm adding Russell Wilson to this conversation as well. Look at what Seattle is doing with this guy at the helm. They are beating top level competition and he is a big reason why with his clutch throwing. He outplayed Brady today and that's saying something.

James, everytime you post in the OOC your perception of "yourself" is just as apparently off key 'in game' as GM Franchise as it is 'out of game' as yourself lol.

Now I know how Franchise feels every game.  Speak your mind and you get singled out for it.

Hey RG3, meet your predecessor, Cam Newton. Ask him about his 2nd year in the league...

Mark Mania

Call Brady old all you want... he was in the Super Bowl last year.

Starting a franchise, whether it's for 4 years or for 2 years, I want TB12 on the team.

Cory

Since the question is "starting a franchise" I think taking a QB over 25 (aside of maybe Rodgers) is idiotic. A new franchise is a future first, and you can't have the center piece of your organization be ready to hang em up any earlier than 5 years.

"Hey RGIII, your second year in the league will be much better than mine because you are a much better passer and your throw it to your own team."

RG III has two votes? Are you kidding me?! The guy is an untested rookie who has only played five weeks of NFL football. He may be good but he's not that good yet. The guy hasn't done much since week two and almost got himself killed last week. That is not the type of QB I'd want on my team at all. Honestly I'd pick Andrew Luck over him any day of the week going by what I've seen up until this point in the season.

QB Rating
RGIII - 100.5
Luck - 72

Passing Yards
RGIII - 1,343
Luck - 1,488 (Has thrown it 60 more times)

Passing TD/INT
RGIII - 5/2
Luck - 7/7

Completion PCT
RGIII - 70.2% (Leads the NFL)
Luck - 53.4%

Rushing Yards/TD
RGIII - 379/6
Luck 103/1

I'm not quite sure what NFL Season you are watching James, but it sure as hell isn't the same as everybody else.  RGIII has proven to be better than Luck.

Dalton lost to the Browns today. THE BROWNS! Nobody loses to that team.

No love in this thread for Brandon Weeden? LOL

But seriously, let's look at this list a little.

Right off the bat, cross off Brady, Peyton and Rapelisberger. I'm building a franchise for the long haul and I need a guy who can play the position for at least 8-10 seasons. Brady and Peyton won't, at least effectively. That, and Rapelisberger has to the the worst "good" quarterback I've ever seen. Even moreso than Bernie Kosar the king of the horrible "good" QBs.

I'm also crossing off Luck and RG3. Too unknown at this point when established young QBs are still available. I'm also taking Cam off for the same reason.

That leaves Rodgers, Brees, Eli and Ryan.

Brees is 33 right now, and he probably has 6-7 more quality seasons in front of him. Not quite as many as we wanted, but its close. He tends to throw a lot of picks though, kinda like Favre use to. But he's spectacular at finding the open man.

Rodgers is 28, and he definitely has 8-10 more quality years. He's not as prolific as Brees, but he's a proven winner (despite the current season) and is much more cerebral than Brees.

Eli is 31, and probably still has 8-10 more good seasons. Eli is just as good of a passer as the rest, but he's probably the most inconsistent too. Of course, he's got rings. And only with the exception of Rapelisberger, rings don't lie.

Ryan is the youngest of the group at 27, but is also the most untested. For all the hype surrounding him, he's not really accomplished anything yet. That's not to say he won't, but why take a flyer on him when I can get a QB one year older (Rodgers) who aleady has a Super Bowl ring on his fist?

In the end, I'm taking Rodgers. Not only does he have plenty of quality football in front of him, he's also likeable and should garner my franchise some positive PR.
