i don't see them coming back soon either. They don't have the heart or the quality. Was happy to see either  them or hull go down after what jimmy bullard said.

For the first time in years I watched a Premiership game (was at my parents who have recently got Sky Sports back) and was glad to see a Villa win (my local team and 2nd fav team after Liverpool - long story). Shame to see the Toon relegated as I like Shearer and feel he deserved better but Mike Ashley has to take some of the blame for this as well as all the blunders that have happened before. Owen has been a huge letdown at the club and I guess he'll be trying to move on now when in reality he should be there on a lower wage trying to help them to give them a return on him rather than jumping ship.

Wow... I have not bothered following this year at all (as anyone who has seen my fantasy team can testify... Laursen is still my captain) but Newcastle relegated... wow! i am pleasantly shocked I like to see big teams go down, it's the one socialist trait still left in me...lol)

Shearer was pretty much too little too late.

But yeah, if big teams are down then small teams are up giving a little variety.

I watched the game and Newcastle just didn't play like a team with their Premiership survival on the line.

They've also got 11 players on their books who earn more than £50,000 per week!  So most of them are going to have to go.

A very interesting fact I read is that 40% of teams relegated from the Premiership have NEVER come back up!  That's a big number.

That club was fucked from the moment Ashley bought it and had no idea what he was doing.  This is the perfect example of why playing Championship Manager doesn't mean you know how to run a football team/club.

They're going to need some serious planning and work to sort out the mess they've made of one of the biggest clubs in England.

Peace

One thing that everyone keeps saying, how have Newcastle EVER been a "big" club? Because they had money? They haven't won a legitimate cup since the 50's, and they won the modern day equivalent of the championship league. A big club has to be called a big club for a reason, and Newcastle have never had a reason to be called one.

I hear what you're saying. I am still surprised though. But yeah, I am not sure what makes a "big club" my own personnal gripe is when people kept referring to Everton and Tottenham as two of the "BIG 5" long after they had both been consistently shite for several years (I think this may be around early-mid 90s)

Boro and WBA have a better chance of coming straight back up than Newcastle. Newcastle will have to rely on their youth squad and with not many of them having first experience. It will hurt them, while Boro and WBA have already started blooding in their youngster. I cant see Viduka, Smith, Martin, etc wanting to play in the championship when they can get moves to Birmingham, Wolves or Burnley. Plus Newcastle need to sort out the off fields problems.

BTW you can bid on Newcastle by ebay if you have a spare 100 mil sitting around.
