Title: Charlie Bartlett
Post by: Exile on July 14, 2008, 10:59:10 PM
Finally got to watch this one on DVD last night. Its been out for two weeks now and stars Anton Yelchin (Alpha Dog) as Charlie Bartlett, a high school student with a penchant for getting into trouble but finds his calling at his new school as psychiatrist who is willing to listen to the student body. Well that and provide them with prescription drugs.

Bartlett is very cleverly written and directed and played expertly by Yelchin, who will soon become a household name with future projects in Star Trek and Terminator 4, the supporting cast doesn't hurt either as a pre-Iron Man Robert Downey Jr plays his main foil, the high school principal with a drinking problem. And the the criminally underated Hope Davis shines as Charlie's mother who depends on him more as an adult than a 16 year old kid.

A lot of fun, Yelchin is just outstanding in this role, and i throughly enjoyed the flick.

Good recommendation and a great date film to watch on the couch.

B+

Indeed, this was a good movie. It's a little whacky at times, but i enjoyed it.
