New Computer and Fonts

I got a new computer with Vista (ugh) and I have recent 'recieved' photoshop.

Now, I'd like to download new fonts to use, but EVERY font I try and put in the fonts folder, wont work, says there's and error and a bunch of Chinese writing comes up.

This is a true-type font, just incase.
