Command & Conquer Renegade

I just picked up Command & Conquer- The First Decade the other day (I was a huge fan back in the days of the original and Red Alert) and when I tried Renegade, it shocked me. They took one of the greatest RTS games of the era and tried to turn it into somewhat of a shooter.

Just wondering what others who have played the game think of it and whether or not it's really worth going back to. (BTW- my faves in the bunch would definitely have to be Red Alert 2 and Generals)
