Title: Fantasy FOOTY League DISCUSSION
Post by: Rob on May 12, 2013, 11:42:32 AM
I'm thinking of running a game similar to what Fnord does with the FWL for next season and similar to the game we all play on the Premier League fantasy game.

Difference being I'd like to do something in that we all pick 1 player for GK, Defense, Midfield and Attack as well as some substitutes, with 1 on of your players being from a selection of leagues such as La Liga, the Championship, Serie A and the Bundesliga

What do you guys think?

I think more players = more fun, i.e a full starting 11 but that could add up to a lot of work

Sure. Lets sign up in here, I'd like to get at least 10 people to do this. I'll drum up some rules and points for tomorrow.

I'm not super educated on all the players on the international level, but I know a majority of the good ones. I'll give this a try.

Could be a good idea.  Up for it, but more would have to be laid out I guess?

Nice Idea, not sure how it would work, but you are the brain child not me!

I'll have to get this sorted for next season, I'm running out of time right now lads and I really don't have the time to currently run something like this.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football League?
Post by: Cory on August 12, 2013, 12:54:42 PM
I could step up and run it this season if that'd be cool with Rob.

---

Just a quick brainstorm.

We could do:

1 GK, 2 DEF, 2 MID, 2 ATTACK

- Make selections from anywhere in world football.
- Scoring would be for All competitions (League, Champs/Europa, Domestic Cups)
- Clean Sheet = 6pts, Goal Scored = 6pts, Assists = 3pts

- Handicap Messi & Ronaldo? LOL
- Themed rounds ala - Pick from A League - Pick from a Nationality

Alright guys, Im out of town this weekend but I'll set it up and have the "draft" going by Sunday night.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football League?
Post by: Cory on August 15, 2013, 11:10:07 PM
Draft Outline:

Rounds will be themed. Teams will consist of:

1 GK
2 DEFENDERS
2 MIDFIELDERS
2 FORWARDS

I've made the decision that MESSI & C. RONALDO are illegible for the draft, they are two that could almost single handedly win you this little game, so in the spirit of keeping things fair, they're off limits.[/b]

SCORING SYSTEM:

GK + DEF: Clean sheet = 6pts
ALL: Goals = 6pts
ALL: Assists = 3pts
ALL: Red Card = -2pts

DRAFT ROUNDS:

1. OPEN ROUND
2. EPL (ENGLAND) ONLY
3. LIGA BBVA (SPAIN) ONLY
4. OPEN ROUND
5. BUNDESLEGIA (GERMANY) ONLY
6. LIGUE 1 (FRANCE) ONLY
7. OPEN ROUND

ROSTER MANAGEMENT:

-- Obviously if a player gets injured, you can add/drop a player, but no mix matching if a player is playing like shit.....kinda the risk in this game. You'd just need to post in the Discussion that you want to add/drop someone due to injury.

What about 3 man substitute bench too? Just for those eventualities like suspensions and injuries.

Draft Outline:

Rounds will be themed. Teams will consist of:

1 GK
2 DEFENDERS
2 MIDFIELDERS
2 FORWARDS

I've made the decision that MESSI & C. RONALDO are illegible for the draft, they are two that could almost single handedly win you this little game, so in the spirit of keeping things fair, they're off limits.

SCORING SYSTEM:

GK + DEF: Clean sheet = 6pts
ALL: Goals = 6pts
ALL: Assists = 3pts
EVERYONE BUT GK: 75 min + = 2pts
ALL: Yellow Card = -1pts
ALL: Red Card = -2pts

SEASON EXPLAINED:

- So, the week AFTER the draft has been completed, scoring will begin. League matches and Europa/Champions League games. So chose wisely your team, with a team destined to go deeper into cups and what have you, more points to be had.

LEAGUE SCORING WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON FOR THE LAST REMAINING LEAGUE (I THINK LIGUE 1 RUNS LATEST).

DRAFT ROUNDS:

1. OPEN ROUND
2. EPL (ENGLAND) ONLY
3. LIGA BBVA (SPAIN) ONLY
4. OPEN ROUND
5. BUNDESLEGIA (GERMANY) ONLY
6. LIGUE 1 (FRANCE) ONLY
7. OPEN ROUND
8. SERIE A (ITALY) ONLY
9. OPEN ROUND
10. OPEN ROUND

ROSTER MANAGEMENT:

Weekly Starting 7 -- So kinda like Fnords wrestling fantasy, every week you need to set your lineup of your GK, 2 def, 2 mid, 2 attack , if you fail to post your updated lineup, I will automatically use your last posted lineup, so kinda stay active in that regards.

BENCH/INJURIES:Outside of your starting 7, you will have a bench of 3. These will act as your "reserves" for the length of this season. Feel free to swap out anyone when your post your lineup, if you feel they have a match-up advantage or anything. If a player on your team suffers injury, you will have to swap him out for one of your bench players.

I see a slight problem in differentiating "Wingers". Should we categorize them as midfielders, or attackers? We'll go with a majority rules vote on the subject guys.

The rounds are themed man, we can take Casillas for round 3 (its a Spain only), but your last pick had to be a player in the EPL, so swap Di Natale out for someone.

Updated the rules/explanation of the game. Any scoring suggestions (nothing too drastic as the draft has begun) feel free to add.

SCORING SYSTEM:

GK + DEF: Clean sheet = 6pts

EVERYONE BUT GK: 75 min + = 2pts
ALL: Yellow Card = -1pts
ALL: Red Card = -2pts

Cory can I make a suggestion?

DRAFT ROUNDS:

1. OPEN ROUND
2. EPL (ENGLAND) ONLY
3. LIGA BBVA (SPAIN) ONLY
4. OPEN ROUND
5. BUNDESLEGIA (GERMANY) ONLY
6. LIGUE 1 (FRANCE) ONLY
7. OPEN ROUND
8. EPL (ENGLAND) ONLY
9. OPEN
10. OPEN ROUND

With the rounds above do you think we should have Serie A somewhere? Perhaps instead of the other Premiership round?

Also wanted to check about reserves. Are they meant to be DEF, MID and ATK each or can they be whatever?

TOTALLY missed Serie A, I'll change round 8 to that, and the reserves can be used any way you'd like. Id like to think it'd be smart to pick a def, mid, attack, but its totally your call.

I will make a note right now, if a player you have picked has gotten hurt during the draft (i.e if you had someone like Oxlade Chamberlain who is out for 3 months) you can re-pick for that round at the end of the draft.

I have just decided to make the game simpler to me.

Originally the scores/points were going to come from: League, Domestic cup, and Europe Cup matches. I have decided to eliminate the domestic cup, as the tracking device to make keeping score of this game no ridiculously hard doesn't include domestic cups.

I dont see this being an issue at all, as 85% of the time its reserves getting the playing time in domestic cups until the semi-finals or so.

So you'll get points for:

League play + Europa Cup/Champions League.

thats what Im unsure of, ill take suggestions as to how we can do that, trades as well.

Trade will be allowed, player for player.

As far as a "waiver/free agency" period, not sure how we would decide priority or if we should set a max add/drop number (i.e can only dip into FA 3 times a season)

I think if you drop a player from a certain themed round, you have to pick up a player according to the same theme.

On the fixtures for each league you have provided, just be careful because it doesnt have every team listed as playing when they are.

For example

Milan and Napoli arent showing in the 'fixture list' but if you select an individual team it shows them as having a fixture.
Title: Re: Fantasy FOOTY League DISCUSSION

ROSTER MANAGEMENT:

You can add/drop players ONLY during international break weeks. This gives you the opportunity to swap an injured/cold player, with still rewarding those of us who don't need to drop someone. Updates will be posted during an international break period to give you the opportunity to add/drop players.

International Breaks:

September 6-10
October 11-15
November 15-19

**More to be added in early 2014**

If you decide thatr during this period you want to add/drop a player, it must stay with the same theme in which the player your dropping was drafted. i.e if you're dropping Messi and you picked him during the La Liga round, the player you replace him with must play in La Liga as well.

Id just be too hard to find that information for EVERY match I think, like french league games are already gonna be tough to find assit totals and stuff, as I dont mind spending like 20-30 mins updating, but I think for the sake of making it eaiser on your boy here, 1 captain for double points.

If after a few weeks I find it easy to find MOTM, Ill try and add that.

Just need to figure out how to do this Monday games thing.

Its fair to assume that your original set lineup wont change from week to week, but esentially with Monday being the lock in day, it means those who have players playing Monday games will have to rush to set their lineups if they dont want said player playing that week.

I think for future reference, I'll start the following weeks topic on Saturday, so its gives you a few days to set your lineup for the Monday game + early Champions League games on Tuesdays.

Will this work with everyone?
Title: Re: Fantasy FOOTY League DISCUSSION
Post by: Flins. on September 16, 2013, 03:15:32 PM
I think you just need to get the threads up for the gameweeks well in advance, with the deadline being the monday, and the gameweeks being Tues-Mon (which should incorporate any midweek or champs league games).
Title: Re: Fantasy FOOTY League DISCUSSION
Post by: Jerry McClean on September 16, 2013, 05:46:31 PM
Yeah if the game weeks are set up a few days before that should give people the chance to sort their team's if they want to make any changes.

I assumed that with picking teams Monday it was that Monday that counted for points. I was looking at fixtures actually hoping that a player had a match on the following Monday so I could leave him out for one week and have an extra game the next lol

QUICK IDEA:

I know this is the first year of the game and there will need to be improvements made next season (i.e better scoring for GK's, as if they dont get a clean sheet, they get 0, maybe more points for defenders that score goals, ect)

BUT, I'd need to feel where everyone is with this.

Im thinking we add something to the table. The scoring/table rankings will stay, but lets add some realism to the table.

A) The top 4 teams come the final 2 weeks will qualify for "EFK Champions League" and over the final 2 weeks weekly, elimination head2head games until there is a "EFK Champions League Winner". The person with the most points regardless will win Season 1 of EFK Fantasy Footy, but give a chance for others to win.

B) Relegation battle. Flip the tables. The bottom 4 teams come the final 2 weeks will have to duke it out to not finish last. The LOSERS move on (If A beats B, A is safe and B moves on) until only one team sucks enough to LOSE IT ALL.

C) I'd like there to be 3 things to win, so you could win the "treble" but again looking for feedback on this. So essentially, much like the EPL table, come the end of Yr. 1 of EFK Fantasy Footy there will be:

~ EFK Fantasy Footy Champion
~ EFK Fantasy Footy Champions League Winner
~ EFK Fantasy Footy Relegation Loser (would be cool to come up with a funny name, i.e the Sacko from "The League".

Yeah, I like those idea's.

I would like there to be a way that we can add more realism and more of an effort from us, rather than just picking players and going from there. I'd love to find a way to somehow incorporate the way Fnord does trades, waiver wire and pick-up/drops in FWL but I can't think of a fair way of doing this. I think this is what was stumping me when I was thinking of doing this...

I do think however that it should be limited next season to only league games and no CL, Europa or other competitions.

I will make note for the auto-locked teams this week (MDK, Dorling, Flins)

that because of my error of making the thread 2 days late, you can substitute out anyone that didnt play today (Tuesday). Only this exception will be made, come Wednesday and the 2nd leg games of Champions League, you will not be able to modify lineups.

How are we going about the transfers? Free for all? Do we just post who out and who in?

Doesnt hurt having both Suarez and Bale, if he only knew how to use the captain rule, he'd be dominating.

I will be cutting the game short due to lack of interest, not knocking you guys as this was a test run for the game, but the game will complete in week 20 (rather week 40ish) , and there we will crown the winner. So still some time for someone to make a push.

Im going to go back and confirm all the scores (with it being so close), but as it stands here is the preliminary final table for the first season of EFK Fantasy Footy league.

1. Cory 789
2. Franchise 786
3. Rob 704
4. Dorling 634
5. Flins 601
6. Jerry 589
7. Blade 579
8. MDK 562
9. Jon 471

Obviously this was the first season, interest and activity kinda died out half way in which made it difficult for me to continue to run the game, but I understood with this being a trial run there was gonna be issues. Shout out to Franchise for not only taking it to the wire, but posting his lineup every week....as well as Dorling for a top 5 finish, picking a team from the scraps left over....lord knows what would of happened if he picked with everyone else.

I will be open to running this game again next year, but with it taking me around 20-35 minutes to update it each week, there will definitely be more restrictions (maybe less league...damn Portuguese league lol), and a higher level of commitment (some of you had people who played less than 25% of the time starting every week), but it was fun, especially for the first month or so.

So with that being said, any suggestions for next years game, leave them here and well revisit it come next season. Cheers guys, and if anyone can whip up a banner (maybe make one for this year, and one for next year), that'd be great.
