Title: The Greatest Ever Band/Artist World Cup
Post by: Rob on March 18, 2011, 07:53:03 PM
It's basically what it says in the title! You've seen this threads for every other thing but music and I think it's time we got cracking on this.

The gist of it is this;

From every person I would a nomination of your favourite band or artist from each decade. Anything that has released a record.

So this is how it goes;

60s
The Beatles
Jimi Hendrix Experience

70s
Led Zeppelin
The Who
T-rex
Black Sabbath
Alice Cooper
Queen
Rush
Fleetwood Mac
the Kinks
Pink Floyd
The Ramones
Saxon
The Doors
The Clash
Creedance Clearwater Revival
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Rolling Stones

80s
Metallica
The Pixies
Iron Maiden
Guns n Roses
AC/DC
Megadeath
Billy Idol
The Cure
Sonic Youth
Dire Straits
The Jam
The Police
The Smiths
Motley Crue
U2

90s
Fugazi
Oasis
No Doubt
Faith No More
Smashing Pumpkins
Sublime
Pearl Jam
RHCP
Pantera
Green Day
Slayer
Nirvana
Counting Crows
Radiohead
Dinosaur Jr
Alice in Chains
Screaming Trees

00s
The Strokes
Pink
Five Finger Death Punch
The Offspring
Linkin Park
Lost Prophets
The Killers
The White Stripes
Incubus
Deftones
Jimmy Eat World
Foo Fighters
Be Your Own Pet
Queens of the Stone Age
Shinedown
Disturbed :D:D

After this, I will randomly put an assortment of one band/artist from each decade into a group of FOUR. From that, you can nominate your top artist from each group, regardless of decade. There will be no duplicates... If there aren't enough 60s bands then they will be replaced with a 00s band, or any other band that there are too many of in a particular decade.

And then after that, much like the World Cup, each of the top two from every group will go through to face off against the others from each group, until there is a final.

It truly is the World Cup of Music.

You have two weeks to reply your nominations into this topic at 23:59 on the 1st of April, or until I deem the thread to be dead.

Remember, NO REPEATS because that will disrupt the order.

Seeing as Rob called me out on it, I do want to explain why I ignored the 2000s and added the 60s...don't have a 00s band I love, and for a thread like this felt the Beatles needed to be mentioned.

You can chose the Who if you want! Quadrophenia was '73

EDIT:

I'm thinking chosing four different decades shouldn't matter too much, so if you wanna do 50s 60s, 90s, 00s, go for it. It's the same decades being in the same group I'm trying to avoid... So that will give me the option to mix up the groups as much as possible.

I don't understand why you're doing this, most of the people here have awful taste in music. In the end, Disturbed will win or some shitty metal band of the like. Nevertheless...

70s - The Kinks
80s - Sonic Youth
90s - Radiohead
00s - The White Stripes

Only four please Franchise.

And Tim, you are a music mod here, please keep your shitty degrading posts and opinions to yourself. I am trying to maximise the amount of people posting here and you are not helping one little bit.

Now that's what I'm talking about, excellent choices my friend. Also, MDK, top top choices. Most of my first choice picks have been taken, so I'll go for some of my 'other' favourite stuff.

Yeah Metallica was tyhe first band that came to my head too. I had so many i could have chosen for this. But thankfully most have been chosen by other people. Only a few that haven't. And lets face it, if only i'd have chosen them they aint gonna win anyway :)
