Title: THE THREAD WHERE OOC STUFF GOES
Post by: Hondo on November 17, 2014, 01:41:49 PM
(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3vY62YKkSxA/UlXZQYKYC7I/AAAAAAAAPXU/Hw0M9vpqjnI/s400/ps.jpg)

Hello! I know I probably need no introduction, but the name's Michael PS Hayes. When I'm not busy punking out unwitting visitors to Badstreet USA, or recording Grammy-caliber albums, I'm offering up insight on the WWE Creative Team. Well, I was anyway...

Upset with the ongoing condition of WWE Creative, Vince decided to fire every single member of the creative team and replace them with with fresh-faced new talent! After begging and crying uncontrollably, Vince found it in his heart to keep me on as an advisor for the new hires. I have no creative say, however. Which is a shame, since I have an idea for a drunk wrestling monkey...

Anyway, back on point. It's my job to offer you general advice on your tasks for the week. I can answer some fairly basic questions for you, but for the most part you're on your own. After reporting your ideas, Vince will let us know which idea he likes best. It's important to make a good impression on Vince, even if he doesn't ultimately choose your idea. It could get you to the very top of the Creative Team!

But be forewarned. There are a lot of outside influences on Vince's ideas. It's not uncommon for someone to whisper in Vince's ear and change his mind about things. If this happens, you may have to revise your entire plan! So be prepared at all times!

Your first task will come shortly, so be ready! And feel free to introduce yourselves to your fellow creative team members!

QuoteOFFICIAL RULES & GUIDELINES

1. After the deadline, each scenario will be put to a public vote. You CAN NOT vote for yourself. The top three vote getters will accrue points. (1st place gets 3 points, 2nd gets 2, 3rd gets 1) At the end of a "season", person with the most points wins.

2. You can ask general questions to the moderator if you feel not enough information was given in the scenario. These questions should be asked in the game thread, so that others can see the answer as well. (eg. "What color hair does the guy have?" "Is the wrestler suffering from any injuries?"). Whatever helps you be more creative.

3. Refrain from speaking directly to one another in the game thread. Conversation is fine in the OOC Thread. Additionally, smack talk is perfectly fine. But no direct or personal attacks will be tolerated.

4. Sometimes, a scenario may change during gameplay. Should that happen, you are allowed to edit your post. This is the ONLY time that editing a post will be allowed. And even then, the edit must be done in the form of an addition to the post. No information is to be modified or deleted to the body of a post once it's posted. It is also recommended that you check the game thread regularly, even if you've already posted your scenario, in the event a change happens.

Will we be voting on the scenarios blindly (ie, not knowing which idea came from which person)? If not, I think we should.

It would be almost impossible because wouldn't we be interacting in our team threads?

I was unaware there'd be team threads.
Title: Re: Temp OOC Thread, Taking Over the Book

There really aren't team threads, per se.

How I see it going for the beta test, there's one thread where questions are asked and booking plans are posted. Imagine you're in a big conference room and everyone's throwing ideas around.

We'll know for sure if things need to be tweaked by seeing how things go. But  for the most part, we're here to have fun and play a little armchair booker.

My reasoning was, where we're keeping score people may choose to vote strategically (ie in their best interests in the standings) as opposed to what was the best idea/scenario. If we send them directly to you, and you post them, then we'd be strictly voting on the merits of the booking.

Just my $.02.

I get the point.

We may try it both ways while we're in beta, see what works out the best.

Which brings me to my next point. Since the response so far has been pretty strong, I may post the first scenario tomorrow. People are still free to keep signing up, but we'll go ahead and let the rest of you get started.

I actually like the idea of sending them directly to Hondo. Keeps people from voting with any kind of bias or say voting for a person who has gotten a lot less points, to keep someone who's close to them from winning that week.

Having booking teams would create some interesting views and make some fun talk. I do like the voting via PM.

I'm thinking we'll try it both ways before we go live. Actually put it to the test.

The first one we'll do in one thread. The one after that, we'll do PMs or emails. See which works better.

Hondo, when I get home tonight I'll set up a sub board for this game - like Fnord has for FWL.

I'm not sure if you can edit or remove topics - if not, let me know and I'll set that up for you too...or probably ask Judge to do it because I never can!

It'll make it easier to update things and keep track of the game.

Cheers,

This could be a good reason to go to a blind system. Since ideas can be somewhat similar, it may discourage others from following through with their own.

But for now, carry on.
Title: Re: Temp OOC Thread, Taking Over the Book
Post by: T-Bonizzle on November 19, 2014, 09:24:11 AM
Well I look at it this way, if multiple people have the same idea, it's not unique.
Title: Re: Temp OOC Thread, Taking Over the Book
Post by: Hondo on November 19, 2014, 09:44:40 AM
Not necessarily.

I mean, you can have the same basic premise, sure. But the details can be a bit different. Using one talent instead of the next could make all the difference. Take for instance Sam's scenario. Sam had Alicia Fox be the manager for his wrestler, and they had a mini-feud with Ryder and Slater. So if Stoner came up with a plan where Layla managed a wrestler and they feuded with Los Matadores, it could mean a world of difference. Then you've got two different plans with two different dynamics. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses.

We will find out for sure which is better after the next scenario, when we do the blind entries. Whichever seems to work better and more smoothly is most likely what we'll go with from here on out.

That's the good thing about doing this trial run, can work out all the kinks and get it going nice and smoothly in the future.
Title: Re: Temp OOC Thread, Taking Over the Book
Post by: Hondo on November 20, 2014, 08:38:51 AM
I'd like to set this up to a schedule, if we can swing it.

I'd like to post scenarios on Mondays. Questions and sending in booking plans on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We'd do voting on Fridays and Saturdays, with winners for the week announced Sundays.

Also, this week's scenario was a little bit long, I know. Some won't be nearly as intensive as the one we just did, so don't worry about having to write really long plans. Just be mindful of the game thread for any swerves that may occur.

So.  I asked about it before and got my answer.  But if you look at Gravedigger's scenario, it basically goes completely against the answer I had gotten before.  So now I'm confused.

I'm not part of the game, but I typed up my solution to making this guy a heel in the SB.

Quote
15:17   <jagilki>: my plan to make him a huge heel
15:17   <jagilki>: step 1 Cena is getting beat down
15:17   <jagilki>: step 2 he saves Cena
15:17   <jagilki>: step 3 he tells rock Cena is the greatest wrestler ever
15:17   <Namira>: LOL
15:17   <jagilki>: step 4 he injures rock
15:18   <jagilki>: step 5 AJ Lee is stripping in the ring
15:18   <jagilki>: step 6 he covers her up with a tarp
15:18   <jagilki>: somewhere he wins number one contendership to title
15:18   <jagilki>: he defeats brock
15:19   <jagilki>: he GIVES the title to Cena calling him his biggest hero.

Every time I get an idea, I see someone has a similar one to it and my brain goes "NOPE! CHANGE OF PLANS! WE MUST BE ORIGINAL!" even in the preseason. Ironing out the idea I have now, I'll get my idea up tomorrow.

It's difficult with a scenario like this. There is only so many things you can do with a monster heel who's limited in the ring and bad on the mic. I think all of the scenarios are going to end up having a little bit in common, but that's to be expected. This was a good one to see who certain people would choose to put in the roles of jobbers or managers/partners.

Does every one mind my writing like a script?

That is the only way I know how to do these bookings. Even when I was applying to be a booker in one indy fed they wanted me to do it that way. By the way,  I am going to try to get back into the indies.

Write however you like, Krazy. There's no limit on how much or how little you write. Just bear in mind that I'm not judging these at all, your fellow competitors are. Keep it interesting for the reader.

I will just note that I'm not reading any of these until after I write and post mine. So if anything is overlapped, that is why. But I figure, especially from reading this thread, I'd rather not hinder my creativity. Guess we'll see if it pays off.

Understand.

The farther we go, the more it seems like a blind submission may be the best thing. We'll try it next time and see if it's better.

I think a blind submission topic for each week that only Hondo posts in with each submission as a post. Followed by a poll topic with each post link as a voting option where we can discuss. It's extra topic but it's organized and you could make each submission truly blind by just posting the idea with no ones name attached and we vote purely on the idea and not based on the issue that powers brought up.

I must admit I'm liking this game more and more - I give neither hoot nor holler if I win or not, I just like the premise of the game and the differences in the bookings. This scenario took me three days to get the cogs whirring, can't wait to see what the next one is.

Glad you're enjoying it. I'm having fun coming up with scenarios and reading all these booking plans. (Yes, even Krazy's.)

Also, since we're winding down with the first scenario, I'd love to get some feedback/criticism on the way things are going, if any changes need to be made or anything you'd like to see in the future.

One huge question I have for you guys, was that first scenario too much work? I mean, did it seem somewhat burdensome to do five weeks of TV? Would you rather have shorter scenarios? etc.
Title: Re: Temp OOC Thread, Taking Over the Book
Post by: Goldferg on November 24, 2014, 02:03:23 PM
might be an idea to trial a shorter one first before we answer that. I did have some trouble with this one, but that was more due to conceptual stuff for weeks 1 & 2 as i knew what i wanted as the endgame, but not how to begin
Title: Re: Temp OOC Thread, Taking Over the Book
Post by: Hondo on November 24, 2014, 02:16:57 PM
The next one is shorter for sure. I won't give anything away, but it should be a little less work.

We'll still probably do some longer, in-depth bookings plans on occasion, I just wonder how frequently we'd use such plans.
Title: Re: Temp OOC Thread, Taking Over the Book
Post by: BamBamBunglow on November 24, 2014, 03:22:01 PM
I'd save the longer one for holidays - EG Christmas time/new year - give us 2 weeks instead of one and come up with a full month inc. ppv, or something akin. We'll still all get it done on the last day, fantically and with much cursing, but it'll mean a bit more thinking time to plan out some cool arcs :)
Title: Re: Temp OOC Thread, Taking Over the Book
Post by: Tritch on November 24, 2014, 04:36:10 PM
I don't see what kind of scenarios would work with less than a month. I've probably just got tunnel vision and am not thinking of something fairly obvious. But I have no qualms with full month scenarios, I don't think it'd be that much extra work. Didn't seem like it from the first scenario at least.

The hardest thing about this first scenario, to me, was more to do with the fact WWE only gives you about a month between PPVs (sometimes even less). Can you imagine building this guy up to a PPV if it was 2-3 months away?

Also, anyone who didn't get a posting done in time, it's fine this time. We're just doing a beta test anyway. But when the real thing starts, we'll have to keep a closer eye on things.

Can it be a thing we can take part in when time allows? Obviously we would not be able to win an overall league if we didn't post each time, but if we were fine with that can we partake or not on a scene to scene basis?
Title: Re: Temp OOC Thread, Taking Over the Book
Post by: Hondo on November 25, 2014, 12:31:47 PM
Absolutely! It's all for fun anyways. Like you said though, it'd be close to impossible to win the league table, but that's it. I have no problem with it.

Good to hear, because there may be a few weeks in December where I see nothing but my bed and whatever crappy cover band got hired for the rich people's party.

This first scenario was fun, and I personally don't think a month build is too much. I had my general ideas fairly quick, and it didn't take me long to type them out. I think anything less than two weeks isn't really gonna give us room to do anything other than bury someone. All though I guess some of the scenario's could be something like a gimmick change for a particular wrestler or wrestlers. Hell that would be an interesting one, choose like 3 lower card guys and say we can pick one to do a gimmick overhaul with. Should be fun, and I'm looki9ng forward to seeing what you come up with for scenarios and how other people do stuff.

I may or may not vote, I haven't decided yet. All depends I guess, if people feel comfortable with it.

As far as the writeups, I will be doing something similar to a review. I'm not just gonna say, "Ok, that guy won this week" or anything like that. It should tie up everything for a given week.

Voting results are in, and a new scenario has been posted! Good luck guys.

Also, an idea I've been toying around is creating a character for your bookers. Maybe we could give them a little background, a personality, or even a picbase. Just an idea for you gents to kick around.

I like the idea of using a character for a booker, but that's because I'm all about rpg's. I'd say go for that, but will leave it to the majority.

Well done to Duckman - Alicia Fox sold me on that the minute I read it.

How long are we usually going to have to vote on the scenarios? I think we had around 19 hours this time?

I saw the poll was up when I woke up this morning, but didn't have a chance to remind myself about everyone else's before I left. By the time I got a chance to remind myself about everyone's scenario, the voting had closed so I didn't get a chance!

Once we get into the real thing, we'll have a set schedule for the most part. It'll be a lot more structured. I was thinking scenarios go up on a Monday, and close on a Friday, with voting occurring Satarday and Sunday, with winners announced Sunday afternoon/evening/whenever football goes off.

My idea will not be like Hornswaggle beating one of the top monsters but I might use some of the non-WWE roster.

We should give more weight to 1st place. It should be worth 5 points instead of 4. On MS they have a song contest, you give points to your top 10 songs, but 1st and 2nd place get 12, and then 10 respectively, to give those votes more weight (3rd through 10th get 8-1 points).

Not trying to be a dick and get people eliminated, but since you didn't let Josh's in for using someone not contracted... Kurt Angle isn't signed to TNA anymore either.

While it's more work for you dude, I'd prefer a mix - we send it to you, you post it up as soon as you can. A dead week is a wee bit boring for me, I like to read other peoples stuff before deadline. This way it's still anon, but there's no 5-7 day dark boards. It also helps avoid duplication - there's at least one other scenario which is identical to my idea :)

Just my thought :)

I like the idea of not knowing who wrote what.  Takes away any chance of voting for your buddies, or not voting for people you don't like.

I don't think we'll be able to completely elimination duplication, because to be honest wrestling booking should be quite simple and straight forward and most of the basic ideas are the ones that always work the best.

The main lesson I've taken from the 1st two rounds is everyone HAS to read everything carefully.  This game is about taking a set of instructions, putting your own spin on them, and producing something.  The main point is taking the set of instructions and following them.  You don't want to get DQed if it's avoidable by taking some time and reading everything.

Also Hondo, I've seen with these kind of games that the work can build up quickly.  So if you're stuck for time, or there's too much to do, let us know and we can get someone to help out.

Other than that, I'm having a lot of fun with this, coming up with stuff and also seeing how everyone else tackles the same brief.  It's pretty damn cool!

I get where you're coming from on duplication - to be hoenst I'm REALLY surprised more people didn't go for the Kurt Angle one - it was the first thing that popped into my mind. Perhaps paranoia of "Crap, everyone's gonna do this!" kicks in.

Also, random, very surprised no one pulled Roode O.o

And just to Echo... yeah, Hondo, this game's great mate :)

Roode was the one I was going to do originally.  Figured a few of you guys would do it and wanted to do one I knew no one would go for.
Title: Re: THE THREAD WHERE OOC STUFF GOES
Post by: Tritch on December 02, 2014, 10:16:20 AM
Yeah it was difficult for me to choose. There are a lot of guys in TNA I think could thrive in WWE, but ultimately with this being all about the "surprise" factor I thought it would be best to utilize someone the entire WWE universe would know about by bringing back someone who used to be on the roster. As much as I love guys like EY, Joe, Roode, etc., a lot of the WWE crowd wouldn't know who they were and thus it would just be a normal debut rather than a "holy shit it's ...!!!!!"

So then it came down to choosing the right WWE dropout. Considered Angle but he's not in TNA anymore, wanted to do Bubba but he's not in TNA anymore either, considered Jeff but he's switched back and forth so many times I didn't think it'd be much of a surprise. Didn't leave many options haha.

I have a question I just though of.

With the results of this second scenario, Magnus was hired.

With that in mind, for future scenarios, (if applicable) would be then be able to use him like we're moving on down the line? Or should we pretend like each scenario is separate and none of the other stuff happened?

Great question.

I had thought about this for a while, and in the interests of less confusion across the board, I thought that from time to time Vince may mention past scenarios and ask you to take them into consideration, but for the most part we wouldn't automatically call back to them.

Like for instance, Vince asks you to take a current heel and put them in a dirty cop angle. You wouldn't use Magnus then. However, Vince may say that he wants the Magnus stable from a couple months ago to feud with four babyfaces. In which case, you would use Magnus as if he were canon to the current WWE roster.

Does that make sense?

Essentially, each scenario is independent of the one before or after it, but there is potential for a past winning scenario to be used in a future scenario, correct?

Based on Hondo's responses, this seems a "come one come all" type of game. No need to ask to come in, or out.

Hey guys, do you need a little more time in regards to the holiday? I probably shoulda asked sooner. But if you need an extra day or so, we can do it.

Would help, for me at least.  Had to do a whole lot of driving over the holiday time.

I'm a bit behind too. There's at least four plans I've got that I've posted yet.

I can do Saturday @10pm Eastern. The voting may overlap the new scenario a little though. But that's no big deal.

Ah nuts guys, sorry bout the delay. Got a little sick over the weekend. But all's well now.

What we'll do, I'm going to go ahead and post the new scenario for the week. I'll also post the voting thread and the rest of the scenarios today as well, and they'll overlap a bit. So be mindful that voting is going on the same time as the new scenario.

Real sorry about that folks.

Apologies for not getting one posted for the Swagger deal.  This is the first time in a week I've been on the boards - needed some time off over Xmas and stuff.

Back in the saddle this week though!

Don't forget about the deadline, folks. TONIGHT at 8pm Eastern. So far we have four submissions, let's try to get more in!

I'm finding the Friday deadlines tough to meet. I think that some part of the weekend should be utilized for writing, rather than just voting.

Just my opinion.

Maybe move the deadline to saturday night, voting closes monday night, new scenario monday or tuesday? whatever is good for Hondoman I guess :)

I would, but I did that last time and we didn't get any more submissions. If I knew people would actually submit them with an extended deadline, I'd do it.

I think from here on out, we'll make the deadline Saturdays at 10pm. We'll put up the polls on either Sunday night or Monday morning  and let it overlap with the new scenario. Kinda like what we've done over the past few weeks.

Thoughts?

I think from here on out, I'm going to have you guys send your submissions via email. I don't know if I'm overlooking some of the submissions or what, but my inbox is too crowded as it is. I think having a dedicated email box would make things run a bit smoother and more accurately on my end.

So starting with our latest scenario, send your submissions to TOTB-MFX@yandex.com. Just be sure to put your Forum name and character name at the head of the email, just so I can reference them quickly.

Thanks guys, and sorry for the inconvenience.

hey hondizzle i was taking a look at the voting thread and the EP 5 thread and noticed that A. you had posted one of the "missing" ideas twice, and B. in the voting thread there was one featuring Jushin but this scenario does not appear in the EP 5 thread.

Not sure if that's the one you're still waiting for or if you accidentally posted the Muta one twice or something, just thought I'd give you a heads up.

The Liger one was one of the missing ones. The writer asked if I got the plan including Liger, et. al. and I said I hadn't. I don't think the person was lying about sending, but hasn't sent me a booking plan either. (He may not have been online since then). In the interest of moving things along, I'm going to post the choices and let people vote for it. If he comes back on, I'll post the plan.

And with that said, I'm unlocking the poll. Go out and vote (again)!

QuotePWInsider reports that Bully Ray and Devon of Team 3D may have recently been in talks with WWE officials in some way, shape or form.

The two are rumored to be surprise entrants in Sunday's 30-man Royal Rumble main event from Philadelphia but that is not confirmed. It's been rumored in the past year that one of the two could end up in NXT as a trainer but we haven't heard anything else about that.

Attention players.

I would love to get the game started back up in a week or so, but I'm definitely going to need a co-mod of sorts. So I guess what I need to know is if you're still interested in playing, and also if anyone is interested in being the Billy Kidman to my Dusty.
