Title: TRY HARD RULER OF THE WEEK AWARDS
Post by: Ian "Wolfie" Trumps on December 23, 2014, 01:19:07 PM
A newly named Bungle (achieved friend of the show nickname status on to be released epiosde) pointed out the need for the Try Hard Ruler of the Week Award. So...his amazing idea is YOU THE LISTENERS, advise the show of the nominees for the week...so as of 2015 it is up to you to nominate potential winners of the week and why!

This week, on MFX110, the very first Try Hard Ruler of the Week Award, as nominated by YOU the MFX Galaxy was named.

This week's award, as nominated by friend of the show Bam Bam Bungalow, goes to Russell Brand for his 2 week attempt at becoming a political force, only to be owned by Nigel Farage and members of the public on BBC Question Time, and then disappearing into thin air.

Be sure to listen to MFX110 to find out from Sir Ian exactly what qualifies someone as a Try Hard nominee.

Send your nomination for next week's show to mfx.show@gmail.com

Bammer makes it two weeks in a row, as his nomination for the Try Hard Ruler of the Week Award was the winner on MFX111!

His nomination was this guy:

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jan/13/nostradamus-wrong-astrologer-advised-sri-lankas-president-election (http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jan/13/nostradamus-wrong-astrologer-advised-sri-lankas-president-election)

In a nutshell - it's an astrologer who was an advisor to the president of Sri Lanka. He advised the president that it was "An auspicious time to call for an early election". The president called the early election and subsequently lost. Astrologers excuses were - "Even Nostrodamus got it wrong sometimes" and "the oppositions horoscope is more powerful than that of Our Sir (referring to the ex president)".

Send your nomination for next week's show to mfx.show@gmail.com and see if you can stop Bam Bam from making it 3 in a row!

Well it was a hard fought battle this week, but Bam Bam has made it 3 in a row with this week's Try Hard Ruler of the Week Award on MFX112.

Here's the details:

http://metro.co.uk/2015/01/29/man-lands-in-jail-after-taking-driving-test-for-his-friend-who-had-failed-15-times-5041912/ (http://metro.co.uk/2015/01/29/man-lands-in-jail-after-taking-driving-test-for-his-friend-who-had-failed-15-times-5041912/)

In a nutshell - A dude who wanted to be a delivery driver failed his driving test 15 times, then got his mate - who's been driving for nearly a decade - to do it for him. Said mate ALSO failed, got caught cheating and is now doing a 9 month stint for the con.

A true example of Try Hardness if ever there's been one.

Can you end Bam Bam's reign of terror?  Sure you can.  Get your nomination in for next week's show, email:  mfx.show@gmail.com

We have an ace in the hole with Goldferg's nomination that we'll do on the next show.  But someone needs to 'Brock' Bammer before this gets out of hand.

Christ, so THIS is what Roman Reigns must feel like... all the fans baying for him to fail! ;)

Sorry lads, but to quote the great man - "There's three thing's you can't beat - Death, Taxes & The Streak!"

... I may have to make up a little Streak counter for my signature and enjoy it for the next few days ;)

And the streak continues!!  For the 4th week in a row Bam Bam nails the Try Hard Ruler of the Week nomination with this amazing story:

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/family-charged-fake-kidnap-plot-scare-too-nice-child-n301281 (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/family-charged-fake-kidnap-plot-scare-too-nice-child-n301281)

In a nutshell; A family has been charged and held on a £250,000 bail (so you know this shit is serious) for staging a kidnapping of their own son and telling him he's going to be sold into the sex trade, all because they thought he was "Too trusting of strangers".

Can anyone stop Bam Bam?  Someone must.  Streaks are made to be broken.  Send your nominations to mfx.show@gmail.com

The Streak continues beyond 21 (i.e close to half a year assuming weekly shows) and we'll have to address him as Goldbung (sounds better than Bungberg?) rather than Bungletaker.

I think if he goes beyond 21 he gets inducted into the Try-Hardian Hall of Fame, along with Brick & Dixie

The Streak is over!  After 4 weeks, Bam Bam's run is over.  Ruined by Duckman.  Yep, one of the hosts of the show has highjacked the Try Hard Ruler Award with this beauty:

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/feb/05/coca-cola-makeithappy-gakwer-mein-coke-hitler (http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/feb/05/coca-cola-makeithappy-gakwer-mein-coke-hitler)

Controversial winner this week.  Get your nominations in for the next show and knock this cocky Duck off his perch!

There's a cruel irony to this week's Try Hard Ruler of the Week winner.  Last week Duckman's nomination won, this week - he is nominated for being try hard and that nomination wins.

So, well done to Drama Queen for his awesome nomination of Duckman, who came up with a new t-shirt slogan for the non-listeners of MFX: "I'm Not A Podcast Guy," and then only advertised it on the podcast, so the guys the t-shirt is for, won't actually know about it!  The very definition of try hardness!

Think you can beat 'The Irish Peacock' Drama Queen?  Then get your nominations in to mfx.show@gmail.com and maybe you can claim the fame, power and glory of a successful Try Hard Ruler of the Week nomination!

P.S - the t-shirt will be coming soon.

P.P.S - screw you DQ! :P

A first time win for friend of the show Jag with his Try Hard Ruler of the Week nomination for MFX116.

His nomination goes to a man who became contender for Ireland's dumbest criminal as he knocked himself out with a brick while trying to smash a car window.

The 'thick with a brick' was found lying in a pool of his own blood by the car's owner after it rebounded off the window and smashed into his own face.

A great pick from Jag.  If you spot something that you think is Try Hard, send your nomination in to mfx.show@gmail.com

Jag makes it two weeks in a row with his nomination for the Try Hard Ruler of the Week.

It goes to these idiots, who thought they stole cocaine and sorted it, but it turned out to be their Grandfather's ashes:

Three shows in a row for JAG!!  Boom!  He's one away from matching Bammers record of 4 shows in a row.

The thing to take away from this story is don't try to double bluff cops, especially if you're a fucking retard:

The streak is over!!  After three weeks in a row, and one of the greatest Try Hard battles of all time, Jag has been knocked off his throne.  Seriously, the THR contest on MFX120 is the best ever.  If you've not heard it, go check it out because it's an awesome collection of stupid people and bad decision.

And who won the greatest THR of all time?  Friend of the show Adam Wrong!!  His winning story was this amazing tale of one man and his own wanted poster:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/man-who-liked-facebook-wanted-5600620 (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/man-who-liked-facebook-wanted-5600620)

Think you can top Adam?  Think you can find something even more Try Hard than this?  Then send your nomination in to mfx.show@gmail.com

Adam Wrong's run at the top is over after one show.  On MFX121 we had joint winners of the Try Hard Ruler of the Week Award as my buddy Steveo and Blade both hit the top spot with this story:

http://www.unilad.co.uk/video/the-price-is-right-gives-contestant-in-wheelchair-a-treadmill/ (http://www.unilad.co.uk/video/the-price-is-right-gives-contestant-in-wheelchair-a-treadmill/)

It doesn't get much more Try Hard than that folks!  Well done to Blade and Steveo and if you think you can topple them (like someone in a wheel chair trying to use a treadmill) then send your nominations in for the next show to mfx.show@gmail.com

Catching up with the Try Hard winners for the last couple of shows.

Adam Wrong (aka MDK) wins for MFX122 with this hilarious story about a funeral procession who followed the wrong hearse for 9 miles:

And George 'The Animal' Peel wins for MFX123 with this great story about Lego's failed launch of their new 'window licker' toy:

MFX124 Try Hard Ruler of the Week Award goes to Colin Weir for this cracking story of a Scottish boy band trying to save money and nearly dying:

Time to play some catch up on the last few Try Hard winners.

MFX125 - Colin Weir makes it two wins in a row with this hilarious story about Phil Neville (ex-Man Utd, Everton and England footballer) who tried to tweet in Spanish to fans of his new club, but ended up saying something rather more disgusting:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3159492/Phil-Neville-accidentally-sends-rude-tweet-trying-send-message-Spanish-saying-run-beach-making-crucial-mistake.html (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3159492/Phil-Neville-accidentally-sends-rude-tweet-trying-send-message-Spanish-saying-run-beach-making-crucial-mistake.html)

MFX126 - In a truly hard fought battle friend of the show Goldferg picks up the win with this amazing story about a love rat Dad who sent a lookalike to a DNA test for a paternity case, only to end up arrested and jailed for fraud:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3124467/Love-rat-dad-tried-dodge-child-support-payments-sending-LOOKALIKE-DNA-test-mistress-pregnant.html (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3124467/Love-rat-dad-tried-dodge-child-support-payments-sending-LOOKALIKE-DNA-test-mistress-pregnant.html)

MFX127 - Colin Weir is back with another win with this example of Try Hardism at its finest.  Kelly Osbourne tries to call Donald Trump a racist for his comments on Mexicans and ends up saying something really racist herself:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3185325/Kelly-Osbourne-melts-View-commercial-break-making-racist-comment-Donald-Trump-needs-Mexicans-clean-toilets.html (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3185325/Kelly-Osbourne-melts-View-commercial-break-making-racist-comment-Donald-Trump-needs-Mexicans-clean-toilets.html)

MFX128 - Once again Colin Weir OWNS the Try Hard Ruler competition with this story about Auschwitz museum bosses being accused of insensitivity after erecting SHOWERS to help visitors cope with summer heat:

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/auschwitz-museum-bosses-accused-insensitivity-6360287 (http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/auschwitz-museum-bosses-accused-insensitivity-6360287)

So there you have it, Colin Weir showing his dominance over the Try Hard Ruler nominations.  Will he make it 3 shows in a row?  Check out this week's MFX129 to find out!

And if you think you can beat Colin and can find a story as hilarious and ridiculous as these, then send the link to us at mfx.show@gmail.com

Colin did make it 3 in a row on MFX129 with this awesome Try Hard story about a high school that accidently let a porn movie be filmed on its campus:

http://metro.co.uk/2015/10/13/a-school-accidentally-allowed-a-porno-to-be-filmed-on-campus-5437835/ (http://metro.co.uk/2015/10/13/a-school-accidentally-allowed-a-porno-to-be-filmed-on-campus-5437835/)

Colin's reign at the top of the Try Hard mountain is ended as MFX130 sees Adam Wrong bring us this tale of a former boxer, a gay porn movie and one of the worst excuses in the history of man:

http://metro.co.uk/2015/10/28/boxer-and-father-of-ten-says-he-was-drugged-after-gay-porn-video-emerges-5466309/ (http://metro.co.uk/2015/10/28/boxer-and-father-of-ten-says-he-was-drugged-after-gay-porn-video-emerges-5466309/)

With the year over we decided to award the Try Hard Ruler of the Year.  This was an award for what Ian and I felt was the best Try Hard Ruler of the Week nomination.  As you'll have heard on show 131 it was a tough decision to make, but I think we made the right one in the end.

So congratulations to Bam Bam for this awesome story:

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/family-charged-fake-kidnap-plot-scare-too-nice-child-n301281 (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/family-charged-fake-kidnap-plot-scare-too-nice-child-n301281)

In a nutshell; A family has been charged and held on a £250,000 bail (so you know this shit is serious) for staging a kidnapping of their own son and telling him he's going to be sold into the sex trade, all because they thought he was "Too trusting of strangers".

A worthy winner of the Try Hard Ruler of the Year Award!

If you want to be in with a shout of winning either the weekly, or the big annual Try Hard award, then find a story and send it in to mfx.show@gmail.com

First Try Hard Ruler of 2016 was awarded on MFX134.  Once again, Colin nailed it and won the award with this story about a primary school that used Gary Glitter's Christmas song as part of their Christmas concert, only to have parents freak out and make them change it:
