Justin

This is something I wrote in response to stuff I see in every day life and on television.  I'm white and married to a black woman and stuff I see just pisses me off some times.

Black and white….two simple words that should be synonymous with a box of crayons.  Sadly this is not the case, no, black and white are two overly complex words that will forever be referred to the shade of someone’s skin tone.  The politically correct terms of African-American and Caucasian have far been removed as the terms to adequately describe the specific races and have been replaced with black and white.

Black and white….I ask that you think about these two words long and hard.  While you are thinking I ask that you take heed to the fact that these two should be simple words effect the way so many human beings treat each other.  Those two words have for so many been the deciding factor between life and death.  Just because someone’s skin tone was a darker shade than that of their ethnic counterpart their lives were ended because they were not considered the same.  How can this be?  We are all human beings, but just because one is black and one is white had to decide who lived and who died.

Why the hatred?

Life is filled with so many other problems that need our attention, but yet people choose to believe they are above others because of black and white.   Instead of fighting and killing each other over those two words, why can’t we join forces to tackle problems such as poverty and helping the elderly?  Is it because our mothers, fathers, or grandparents told us to hate the person opposite of black and white?  Why partake in such ignorance that is Godless?  People call themselves Christians, but yet the way they treat someone who is opposite of black or white is shunned upon in the Bible.   God put us on this Earth they way we are, if he wanted everyone to be the same shade of white or black then he would have done so.

Why be the same?

As an individual why would you want someone exactly like you?  Why would you want everybody to have the same tone and have the same beliefs?  No, what’s the fun in that?  People should learn that black and white are merely colors that adorn things such as furniture, clothing, etc, and not words that prohibit the progress of humanity, civility, and individualism.  I charge everybody to embrace who they are, respect others individualism and try to celebrate the differences of life.

A-men to this, bro! +2

Everyone just need to get along, stop the madness.

My wife is Japanese, Im a mix of Aboriginal and Caucasion. I had people who were opposed to our wedding for that reason alone. They can all screw off.

Me and my wife are happy, I hope you and yours is too. I'm assuming since I live up in Canada, it's not as bad as it is for you.

Hate will always exist and I had to tell one of my great-uncles that he isn't welcome in my life since he said he will always hate the Japanese. Since my children will be half-asian, Ive told him that he hates me now too.

I dont understand the hate but it probably will always exist. Those people choose to be unhappy, there is nothing i can do to change that. Let the haters hate, but you and I my friend will choose to see the women that they look down on and see the beauty inside them. At the end of the day, they will still be miserable haters while we will have great wives to go home to who just so happen to be a little bit darker skinned then us.

This topic always strikes a nerve with me.  I come from a town where there MIGHT be 5 African American students in the entire school district at one time.  MIGHT.  So needless to say, I had very little interaction with other races until I went to college.

Once I got to college, because I lacked experience with diversity, I kind of got uneasy around other races.  Not because I didn't like them, not because I had prejudice, but it's just that I had zero experience with them.

However, once I warmed up to a guy whom I would end up becoming very close friends with, I quickly realized that although there are/were some cultural differences, WE'RE ALL THE SAME.  We are all people, we all breathe the same air, drink the same water, and eat the same food as each other.  Yes, there are differences, but that's all they are--DIFFERENCES.  Different does NOT always mean good or bad.  It's just different.

So I guess the point is that some of us have come from backgrounds where we had no experience with diversity and therefore simply went with the social stereotypes of the different races.  I now know better, and I won't use my lack of cultural diversity back then to make an excuse, but I could honestly care less if you're Caucasian, African American, Asian, European, Indian, or any other race.  We're all people, and unless given a good reason why, should all be treated the same.

Dorling

Racism is pure ignorance and, since I have no time for ignorant people, I have no time for racists.

I've always said it and I always will - I don't care what the colour of your skin is, if you're gonna be a douchebag, I'm gonna call you a douchebag.

Hell, do it in the dark so I don't know what you look like - you're still a douchebag.

With all the shit we have to worry about you'd think people could just shut the fuck up and get on with life.

I know the type you're talking about Justin. The self-professed Christians who flat-out hate those of different ethnicity or creed and try to use the Bible to back it up. These people obviously aren't reading the same Bible as I am, because the one I read tells us to love EVERYONE.

John 13:34-35 says "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

An even better one, 1 John 3:15-16, "Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers."

God teaches us to love one another, regardless of our differences. Any so-called Christian who tries to tell you otherwise is a false prophet, a wolf in sheep's clothing.

It doesn't matter if you're black or white or Asian or gay or straight or a lesbian, God loves us all. And he expects us to love one another as well.

Wonderful post, Hondo. I am not especially religious, but what I do believe is that fundamentally, the message of most beliefs is one of love and tolerance, not of hate. Anyone trying to use the Bible/Koran etc etc to promote discrimination against other people is abusing the true message of those texts so badly that... well I don't even know. I find it deeply upsetting.

It also makes me sad that so many people judge Christians (and other religions as it happens) off the basis of the people trying to promote their own extreme views, or roll all the bad in with all the good. How's that any better than the original bigots anyway?
