Kurt Busch: Ex was trained killer

http://espn.go.com/racing/nascar/cup/story/_/id/12161197/kurt-busch-says-ex-girlfriend-patricia-driscoll-was-trained-assassin?ex_cid=sportscenterFB

QuoteDOVER, Del. -- The NASCAR driver known as "The Outlaw" testified Tuesday he believes his ex-girlfriend is a trained assassin dispatched on covert missions around the world who once returned to him in a blood-splattered gown.

"Everybody on the outside can tell me I'm crazy, but I lived on the inside and saw it firsthand," Kurt Busch said when his attorney, Rusty Hardin, questioned why he still believed Patricia Driscoll is a hired killer.

In an interview late Tuesday, Driscoll called Busch's assertion "ludicrous," saying he took it "straight from a fictional movie script" she has been working on for eight years and that he has proofread.

Busch, appearing in court again over Driscoll's request for a no-contact order, continued the push of his legal team to discredit his ex as a scorned woman out to destroy his career, portraying her as a character fit for a screenplay.

Busch said Driscoll repeatedly asserted her assassin status and claimed the work took her on missions across Central and South America and Africa.

He recounted one time when the couple was in El Paso, Texas. He said Driscoll left in camouflage gear only to return later wearing a trench coat over an evening gown covered with blood.

A day earlier, Busch said his ex-girlfriend told him she was a mercenary who killed people for a living and had shown him pictures of bodies with gunshot wounds.

Busch said Tuesday that Driscoll had claimed that a female character in "Zero Dark Thirty," a film depicting the CIA's hunt for Osama bin Laden, was a composite of her and other women.

Last month, Michael Doncheff, who served as a personal assistant to Busch and Driscoll, said an ailing Driscoll told him in September that she had been picked up by a big man and slammed to the ground while helping round up immigrants at the Mexican border, a story Doncheff considered "far-fetched."

Doncheff said Driscoll also asserted that she was a trained assassin for the U.S. government and once told him, "I take down foreign governments. I own Washington."

During the hearing, which stretched over four days, neither Driscoll nor her attorney refuted the testimony.

In a telephone interview with The Associated Press late Tuesday, Driscoll dismissed Busch's assertions.

"These statements made about being a trained assassin, hired killer, are ludicrous and without basis and are an attempt to destroy my credibility," Driscoll said. "Not even Rusty Hardin believes this."

"I find it interesting that some of the outlandish claims come straight from a fictional movie script I've been working on for eight years," Driscoll added.

Busch testified Monday that he decided to end his relationship with Driscoll after a race last fall because she was monopolizing his schedule and he needed to focus on racing.

Driscoll said Busch assaulted her in his motorhome at Dover International Speedway a week later, grabbing her by the throat and slamming her head into a wall three times. Busch and his attorneys have denied the allegations, which are the subject of a separate criminal investigation. Driscoll's attorney, Carolyn McNeice, cross-examined Busch on Tuesday, but few of her questions dealt directly with the assault allegations.

Busch has testified that he repeatedly told Driscoll to leave after she showed up unannounced at his motorhome, finally cupping her cheeks in his hands, looking her in the eye and telling her she had to go.

"He advised that her head tapped the wall as he was doing that," Detective James Wood testified Tuesday, recounting Busch's interview with Dover police in November.

Richard Andrew Sniffen, a Christian music minister who performs at NASCAR outreach events and befriended Busch and Driscoll, said Driscoll told him on the night of the alleged assault only that Busch had pushed her and that she hit her head. Sniffen said Driscoll was upset, angry and brokenhearted, but that she never said she was afraid of Busch and seemed intent on reconciling.

That attitude shifted in the weeks that followed, Sniffen said, with Driscoll going "from a broken heart looking for love and reconciliation to anger and a little bit of revenge."

"I will destroy him," Sniffen said Driscoll told him, adding that she repeatedly said she would take Busch down.

A court ruling on Driscoll's request for a no-contact order is expected later this month or in early February.

First of all... the only person who calls him Outlaw is Busch himself. And maybe his equally dorky brother who calls himself "Rowdy".

And second... Kurt Busch is certifiably insane.

Update: NASCAR suspends Kurt Busch indefinitely after court ruling

http://www.foxsports.com/nascar/story/nascar-suspends-sprint-cup-series-driver-kurt-busch-indefinitely-022015

QuoteDAYTONA BEACH, FLA.   —

NASCAR has indefinitely suspended Kurt Busch following a ruling that he committed an act of domestic abuse against former girlfriend Patricia Driscoll.

Busch was found to be in violation of:
• Section 12.1.a: Actions detrimental to stock car racing
• Section 12.8: Behavioral Penalty

"Given the serious nature of the findings and conclusions made by the Commissioner of the Family Court of the State of Delaware, NASCAR has indefinitely suspended driver Kurt Busch, effective immediately. He will not be allowed to race nor participate in any NASCAR activities until further notice," NASCAR said in a statement issued at 6:10 p.m. ET Friday.

"Kurt Busch and his Stewart-Haas Racing team are fully aware of our position and why this decision was made. We will continue to respect the process and timetable of the authorities involved."

Kent County (Delaware) Commissioner David Jones ruled earlier Friday that "it is more likely than not" that Busch "committed an act of abuse" against Driscoll during a dispute last Sept. 26, 2014, at Dover International Speedway.

Jones' full ruling in favor of Driscoll's request for a protective order barring Busch from contacting her was released Friday afternoon. In his ruling, Jones said Busch "committed an act of domestic violence" against Driscoll  "by manually strangling her by placing his left hand on her throat, while placing his right hand on her chin and face and smashing her head into the wall of his motor home, thereby recklessly placing (Driscoll) in reasonable fear of physical injury."

Busch's attorney, Rusty Hardin, subsequently released a statement saying that Busch plans to appeal his suspension from NASCAR, and that Busch's legal team expects the commissioner to reverse his decision once new evidence is heard.
Thursday, Busch's legal team issued a statement saying it had "filed a motion in the Delaware family court to reopen the hearings on the court ruling imposed against Mr. Busch on Monday."

Delaware commissioner says Kurt Busch 'more than likely' abused Driscoll

"We are extremely disappointed that NASCAR has suspended Kurt Busch and we plan an immediate appeal," Friday's statement from Hardin said. "We assure everyone, including NASCAR, that this action against Mr. Busch will turn out to be a travesty of justice, apparent to all, as this story continues to unfold.

"We are confident that if the commissioner agrees to hear newly available evidence that contradicts the testimony of Ms. Driscoll, he will be able understand the actions of that night as well as Ms. Driscoll's character and motivations and reconsider his judgment. He has already found that Ms. Driscoll lied under oath at least once. Our newly available evidence will make it clear that much more of her testimony was untruthful and was purposefully kept from the commissioner by Ms. Driscoll's attempts to intimidate and threaten witnesses.

"It is important for everyone to remember that the commissioner's report has to do with a civil, family law matter and no criminal charges have been filed against Mr. Busch.

"We ask everyone's patience as this case continues in the court of law and are confident that when the truth is known Mr. Busch will be fully vindicated and back in the driver's seat."

On Monday, Jones ruled in favor of Driscoll's request, but the full language of Jones' ruling was not released until Friday.
Driscoll alleged that Busch smashed her face into the bedroom wall of his motorhome on the night of the incident, a charge Busch has repeatedly and vehemently denied.

Busch has not been charged criminally. The Delaware Attorney General's Office, which has had the case since early December, has not decided whether or not Busch will be charged.

Jones' order, which is good for one year, says Busch can't buy or possess firearms or ammunition and must be evaluated for "mental health problems related to anger control and impulse control." It also orders him to stay 100 yards away from Driscoll except for "at NASCAR races and related events where closer proximity is required" for Busch to "perform his duties as a driver or sponsored athlete."

Following news of Busch's suspension, Stewart-Haas Racing released a statement attributed to SHR executive vice president Joe Custer.

"We understand NASCAR's position regarding Kurt Busch and accept their decision," the statement said. "We are in the midst of finalizing our plans for the Daytona 500 and we will announce those details as soon as we're ready."

Meanwhile, in the wake of the news of Busch's suspension, Chevrolet issued a statement attributed to Jim Campbell, Chevrolet vice president of Motorsports and Performance Vehicles.

"Chevrolet has suspended its relationship with Kurt Busch indefinitely," the statement said. "We will continue to monitor the events surrounding Mr. Busch and are prepared to take additional action if necessary."
