Just making sure, because I was interested in doing the same but didn't want to lose one of my protections. Just seems strange that he doesn't have to be protected, because I thought all unprotected free agents went into the expansion draft.

At this point I think I'm just going to wait and see what I can get from the draft before I go after any players at the end of their contracts.

That could be a good move considering the position you are in. If you get rid of one or two big contracts then you could sign a big time player.
