I like the playoff format, but I hate that we're only going to play inter-division teams.

Well, not hate, just wish I'd get a chance to play some of the other teams.   I like the idea of two games against each divisional rival, but I think if you stretched it out a little more and did an NFL type of format of:

- x2 vs. each division rival (5 x 2 = 10)
- 1 game vs each other conference team (6)
- 1 game against 3 opponents of each opposing conference's divisions (6)

That would give you 22 games (11 weeks vs the 10 we have this season).

So a mock schedule:

- Boston @ Baton Rouge (conference) (1/6)

Week 2
- Birmingham @ Baton Rouge (division) (2/10)
- Seattle @ Baton Rouge (non-conference) (North West 1/3)

- Baton Rouge @ Tampa Bay (Division) (3/10)
- Baton Rouge @ Kentucky (conference) (2/6)

Week 4
- Baton Rouge @ Birmingham (division) (4/10)
- Baton Rouge @ Las Vegas (non-conference) (South West 1/3)

Week 5
- Texas @ Baton Rouge (division) (5/10)
- Portsmouth @ Baton Rouge (conference) (3/6)

Week 6
- Baton Rouge @ Puerto Rico (division 6/10)

So with that line up you get a two year rotation (with the second season having the teams play the teams they didn't play against.





Just offering an idea that lets you play more than just 25% of the teams in the league.  For the non-playoff teams, you're only seeing 5 opponents a year, which out of a possible 23 opponents, that's a really low number.

This new schedule changes a lot. Doesn't leave a whole lot of room for error.

I hear what your saying Talon, but that is slightly over complicated. A simpler model just eliminates one piece of your model.

2 games per team interdivision (10 games)
1 game per team in another division (rotates yearly) (6 games)

8 weeks (one shorter than current; accounts for expanded playoffs)
16 games (2 shorter than current)
