I think it has a lot more to do based on reputation.  I'm not sure any of the different cities have an advantage over the other except that the more demanding owners are usually the ones in larger "markets."

It's a slightly nebulous concept, but generally speaking larger cities are regarded as bigger markets. Obviously successful > big market, but it's been a Hollywood (for example) selling point for as long as the game's been going. Las Vegas and Seattle are two others.

The downside is that agents often expect slightly more money and/or PR.
