And I just started. I have the revolver, but keep finding shotgun ammo. Can anyone shed some light on the reasoning for this? I have to die to get more ammo. Or am I just like...stupid? Be honest with that, lol

Collect everything you find on your way. Every single item you may find is useful in some way. There are no useless objects that only occupy space in your pockets. Batteries, ammunition and weapons almost always prove useful

also, don't be worried about hoarding stuff for later - that game has an annoying tendancy to relieve you of everything you picked up at the end of each chapter.
