Title: RPG on Skype
Post by: T-Bonizzle on January 15, 2013, 11:50:34 PM
I didn't want to muck up Marq's thread too much. This is something I've quietly been thinking about for awhile, but I didn't know the level of RPG interest from the community so I hadn't mentioned this until now. I have a campaign setting all planned, sessions planned and such. I just need players.

So here's how I plan on running it. Based on some comments everyone has a different experience with tabletop RPGs. My game will be very newbie friendly. I play with a casual group and as a DM storytelling is more important to me than stats and mechanics and shit. So lets go over a few things real quick.

DM - Means Dungeon Master, which is what I will be. Just like the Mod of a mafia game my word is law. My DMing style is more about storytelling than combat. The characters that are in my games are not just avatars. You will have a little backstory, motives, and personality that drives your actions and decisions. Playing with me the goal of the game is not to win, but to tell a good story. I try to create situations where meta knowledge isn't useful, and I discourage using metagaming as a decision making factor. Just like in e-fedding your character might make decisions that are obviously wrong for the situation and thats okay.

Pathfinder is the game we'll be playing. I'll teach the rules as we go along, including any house rules I may have. Here's a nice source of all the Pathfinder rules. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/home (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/home)

Things you'll need to play. An internet connection (duh) Skype with the ability to join video chats, an actual set of dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20) and then the ability to comprehend googledocs. That'll be our set-up. I like to see dice rolls and such.

I imagine that we can have quite a lot of players, because we're not going to be able to meet at the same time every week. My work schedule isn't a constant, I'm scheduled when I'm needed. Typically we will play in the evening my time (EST). Though I usually have Monday's off, so maybe a semi-regular time before RAW isn't out of the question. Plan for like 1-2 hour sessions. (on that note, who would be available say 6pm EST on Monday for our first session?)

Because I imagine players will drop in and out, I'll task you guys to keep summaries of the game and we'll keep running tabs on the story on the forum here. I figure this can be a real community effort.

If you are seriously interested and could commit to making an effort to play, you can post here. any questions, comments, or whatever. We can get together on skype and talk about character concepts. Character creation is the first step and I like to handle that with my players rather than letting them do it on their own.

Alternatively, Friday at 8:30pm EST works great for me too. Probably better than Monday actually.

My only real issue is my kids.  My son tends to go to sleep between 8-9(central), but my daughter literally can be up until four or five in the morning.  So there might be cases where I would need us to pause for a minute or two so I can change a diaper or make a bottle or some shit.

I'm looking for ways to work around this issue. And I may have found it. If this works, we won't need webcams anymore.

SUCCESS. Updated requirements. You no longer need a webcam or dice. It's optional now.

Update.

BD's character is done. Jag's character is done. We've started Franchise's character and should finish tonight. Haven't heard from JDM or Stoner or anyone from the other thread who said they were interested. So get in contact with me. Send me a PM here and we'll arrange something. I'm hoping everyone can be accommodated.

I proposed two times for our first session. Friday at 8:30pm EST and Monday at 6pm EST. Jag said he was good for both. I think BD said both work for him too. No one else gave a preference. We are so close to making this a reality.

Okay, we're more or less ready with 5 players, just a reminder we'll play tonight at 8:30pm EST. This will be an introductory session, we'll probably go for a good two hours or so.

If anyone simply wants to just listen in while we play, like you've read this topic, heard us talk about it, but are unsure if this is your type of thing, feel free to join us and hang out.

Other than that, I'll see you guys later.

Providing it works (right now it's "processing") this is the audio of our first session. So here's anyone's chance to listen, see what we're doing, and maybe think "hey I could try that".
The killing is beginning.  I sat at a bar, eating and drinking.  I wanted to relax and enjoy the festival.  Some people in purple robes attempted to kidnap an important guy, one of my new friends said he was a senator.  I pulled out my axe and immediately smashed the first man in front of me.  He died instantly.  Another man threw something at the unarmed friend and burned his chest, so I attacked him too.  The unarmed man knocked him out, so I attacked the next man in purple.  He went down quickly too.

After the fight I killed the last man I attacked.  Then I took the left ears of both men I killed.  I'm carrying them in my backpack, I'm sure I can show them off to someone.  The others who fought with me were a thief, a music man, a magic man and the unarmed man.  They investigated bodies, and tried to ask questions of the one man who lived until he ate something and died.  The thief found a clue to where we needed to go, we just had to find it.

The man at that place tried to kick us out and have us arrested.  I asked for food and he got mad at me, so I threatened him.  He gave up easy and showed us where they other men in purple went.  We searched some tunnels, and I tripped over a stupid animal and hurt my head.  I was woozy, but the others killed it fast enough.  I tried to take some to eat later, but they told me it would be a bad idea.  Whatever.

We swam through a tunnel, and the music man found a device on the wall.  The unarmed man turned the lever and the room started to fill with water.  The thief tried to climb faster than the water, but fell in anyway.  I laughed.  We made it to a ledge and kept going until we found a door. Music Man listened to what was going on, and said that the senator was not really kidnapped, and that we were heard.  I moved the music man out of the way and kicked the door in.  The senator was tied to a chair and the other man ran away.  Me, the unarmed man and the magic man gave chase and the thief and the music man stayed with the senator.

The magic man and the unarmed man fell behind, but I was fast.  I scared people out of my way, and climbed a building.  I almost had him, then the man grew wings and flew over the pit.  I will kill him.  The music man and the thief said the senator died, and the magic man said it was death magic that killed him.  A curse.  Something looked bad to the music man, but he wouldn't tell us.

I tried to keep that in character as much as I can.  I'll probably come back later and make it more guttural or something.  Had lots of fun tonight, looking forward to Monday!
ebwop

Also, I noticed I was the only one that used macros in the dice room.  Its pretty simple to set up.  For example:

Macro Attack d20

Type that into the dice box, and any time you type:

!Attack

It will automatically roll a d20 for you.  I had mine set up so that when I did, it would automatically add my chance to hit bonus as well.  Like this:

Macro Attack d20+5

Where the +5 was my chance to hit.  Then my next macro was:

Macro Damage 1d12+6

So that when I typed !Damage it would automatically do my damage calculation.  My last Macro was

Macro Skill d20

So that when I had to do a skill check(this example will be Intimidate) I would type:

!Skill+7 it would automatically do the d20+7 roll for me.  Whatever number I added to the + would be added to the roll automatically.

I found it time saving.

Ninja Edit: GAAAAAAAY.

Night of the Starstone Festival
as accounted by [redacted]

So, there I was right, taking it easy in the bar, cleaning a couple of marks out at the baccarat table, all in preparation for a more lucrative nights work later on. Starstone Festival always draws the big crowds with fat, easily slit purses and, of course, plenty of vacant homes full of re-sellable trinkets. But anyway, just as I won another hand (all perfectly legally might I add, you ain't got no proof otherwise) who should walk in but the bloody Nomach of the west side of town! I gotta tell you mate, I proper perked up when I saw him walk in, after all, what's a big shot senator like him doing in a place as downmarket as this? Just as I was thinkin' to meself how I could spin this to my advantage – maybe see if he was a gambling man perhaps, a bunch of geezers in purple robes began filing in.

Now I've been in a ruckus or two in my time, and I knew I could see one brewin' so I got meself ready, all sneaky an' quiet like. Looked like a couple of others felt the same way, but one of them, some artsy-fartsy looking human wasn't as good at bein' subtle about it. Honestly, I've never seen someone screw up palming a dagger so bad before, you'd think he thought he was in some kind of play or somethin'. Anyways, him pulling steel kinda caused things to kick off... fortunately the guys in purple decided they wanted to pick a fight with the human and some bloody massive half-orc at the bar, so yours truly had a perfect opportunity to work his own brand of magic and bop one of 'em on the back of the head, give 'im a little nap. By that point half the bar was fighting, including some bloke who thought the best course of action was to go at it barehanded, and the purple robes had grabbed the Nomach and were dragging him away, flinging spells around to cover their retreat. One of 'em managed to get away, using some kind've spell.

Now, you don't see a Nomach get kidnapped in front of you and not think about how you can spin this to your advantage – I mean think about how much you'd get paid for helping a guy like 'im out of a jam? Plus having a guy like him owe you a favour... that's useful, know what I mean? Fortunately I'd knocked one of the guys out and the punchy-bloke had dropped the leader. I decided to tie 'em up, ready to be interrogated while the others, including an elf who spent most of the fight hiding behind the bar (who I think was some kind of mage or something) faffed around. 'course by the time I got there the leader'd snuffed it. Proper foaming at the mouth and everything. That's what happens when you let an amateur handle things... or at least that's what I thought until we decided to interrogate the one I bopped. Not only did he not tell us nothing, he had some kind've suicide pill and offed himself... cheeky bugger!

Fortunately he weren't that smart as my customary check of his belongings found a business card for something called the 'Rusty Rudder' (as wella s a few valuables nobody else need know about, know what I mean?). I'd never heard of the place, but the barman said it was somewhere in the poorer section of town. I made sure to tip him before we left, just to make sure that the watch didn't know of my involvement in this... or anyone else for that matter. Can't be too careful mate, you never know who might be lookin' for ya.

The five of us who'd survived the fight all decided to go look into this. Not really sure why,  think the big half orc wanted a fight, the others I guess were probably doing it out of the goodness of their hearts or something. Bollocks to that for me mate, I was in it for the dosh. Of course ya gotta spend money to make money, but in this case a couple of coppers to some crazy old beggar to point you in the right direction and find out anything he knew about those purple cloaked chaps, which wasn't much. When we finally got there the place stank. Literlaly.Every time you breathed in you could practically feel the mold growing on your lungs. The bartender was as unpleasant as his bar and wasn't in the mood to talk, even after I tried being nice. He tried to bullshit us by threatening to call the guards... unfortunately an amateur bullshitter like him was no match for a professional like yours truly. He still wouldn't talk though, well up until he tried to piss off the half-orc. Never seen a guy come so close to shittin' himself, I tell ya if that guy ever wants a gig as muscle for yours truly, once I move up in the world, he's as good as hired.

In any case we found out that they were using the sewer tunnels underneath the bar – joy of joys the stench gets even worse. Resigned to having to put up with it (the things I do for a bit of coin) we headed down. The smell got worse and worse the more we went along, honestly I wanted to be sick but I kept it down. Good thing too because the half orc practically fell over a damn Dire Raccoon... seriously mate, what's one of those doing down a stink hole like this? Must've made it extra cranky because it gave swanky-pants and the punching guy a bit of a mauling before I put it down with an exquisitely placed (if I do say so myself) shot to the head.

Of course then things just got worse as we ran out of pathway and had to swim, despite my best efforts to find a way around it. For some reason the others dove into the water like it was nothing. Do they not know what's IN it? Let me tell you mate I REALLY did not want to go in there... honestly if it hadn't been a guy as flash as a Nomach I'd've turned around and left right there. Seriously mate, let me tell you, it took all my willpower and then some to follow that lot... Gods the Nomach was gonna owe me big for this.

In any case we got through on the other side and quickly made it up to the walkway (anything you hear otherwise is slander and lies). After a little bit more moving through tunnels (thankfully further away from the water) we found a door. Ol' fancy pants had a listen to it and what he heard... well it was shocking. Apparently the Nomach wasn't as kidnapped as he'd seemed and in fact he was in collusion with 'em. Unfortunately ol' fancy pants wasn't very sneaky about his eavesdropping (should'a left it to the pro) and we had to act. The big half Orc kicked down the door and we all piled in to see the Nomach acting like he was all tied up and all while the other guy legged it. The half orc, punching guy and mage all legged it after him while yours truly and ol' fancy pants stayed to have a little 'chat' with the Nomach.

Now, I'm not gonna lie to ya, I may have pushed the whole 'bad cop' thing a little far while we interrogated him but don't get me wrong it was getting results. Well... until he suddenly turned black and died. People really ought to stop doing that. still, on the plus side I got his signet ring, should be able to get a little use out of that before they work out that he's dead. Wasn't much left to do other than that, so we headed off to catch up with the others, but they'd had no luck either. Apparently, according to the half orc, the guy he was pursuing grew wings and flew across the pit to the Starstone Tower... you know, the place where you can become a God (if you're lucky). Oh and on top of that apparently the thing that killed the Nomach? A bloody necromancy spell. This can't be a coincidence... think I'd better stick with these guys for a while, because let me tell ya I got a bad feeling about this...
Yeah, I know everyone said their character names, but I forgot. And my character probably wasn't paying much attention anyway.

Oh and if you're wondering why his name is [redacted] – it's because while I DO have a name for him, I never used it in the session. And I never used it for a reason. But I ain't telling you why – it's a secret.

Now... you ain't seen me... right?
Here is a handout for you guys that gives you selected background information about Absalom, The Test of the Starstone, and the four Gods who passed the test. If you have any questions about what you've read, feel free to ask. Not everything about Absalom was told to you because there is information the common person wouldn't know.

BD I will have some extra info for you about the place you're from. The other four have been in and around Absalom enough to be considered locals.

And I'll get with each of you individually for a solo session, where you guys can buy equipment, make a few bucks off your craft and profession, and the like.

So, it was a dark and stormy night.... Well, I'm not sure on the storm.  I actually don't think there was a storm.  In fact there wasn't.  Night?  Well I'm a little foggy on that as well.  I remember the important bits though.  It was Festival time.  Every Bard worth their Instrument was in the city for that.  Ready to write the tales and Compose the songs should a new god Arise.

Sadly that is why I was drunk in the Mudhole.  Singing for other drunks.  The Great Bards had already taken the best Vantage points  The city was fair bursting with them.  The Mudhole was aptly named.  Low People.  Nobody to truly appreciate my skills.

Sure, I did my best to entertain them, but it just wasn't working.  The Orc in the room only cared about food and drink.  I have nothing against, Orcs, but this guy was obviously trouble with a capital T.  Too many people in the crowd were nervously glancing his direction and not paying enough attention to me.  "Hello, I'm SINGING here."  Hells, this is going to be a long night.  The guys gambling only cared about the game, and that Half-Elf in the corner only seemed interested in trying to stay in the shadows.  Poor thing, how dire life must be to try and not be the center of attention?

The room was positively full of guys in Purple Robes.  That was interesting.  Why Purple?  A cult?  A religion?  An entertainment troupe?  But no, that last one couldn't be.  They weren't appreciating my obvious talents.  Instead, they were sitting around as if they were more interested in something else.

I wasn't paying close attention when the trouble started, but suddenly the Orc had his Axe out.  Purple Robes were surround a well dressed man.

I innocently and calmly checked to see if one of my daggers was within reach, and I got a purple robed goon in my face.  No manners these days.  Don't they know how things in situations like this go?  One makes a show of checking for their dagger in order to show off the fact that they have one.  That DOES NOT mean you get in my face.

The bloody bastard cut me.

I backed up and drew my Mace.

He magically(?) grew armor.

I swung and hit him.

My Mace bounced off his Armor.

Meanwhile, the Orc was killing people.  Good Orc.  The Elf was cowering behind the bar.  Stupid Elf.  The Purple Armored guy in front of me was confidant with his magic(?) armor.  I swung again and this time hit him HARD....

...In the foot.  That pissed him off.  However, sadly for him he was now alone.  His buddies all either dead, dying or ran away through a door that magically(?) appeared out of nowhere.

The guy slit his own throat.

I repeat, the guy slit his own throat.

I had to fight down the urge to be sick.  I'd never actually seen anybody slit their own throat before. Sure, old "Slit-Me-Own-Throat" Dibbler, the street Meat Pie vendor back home would always threaten to do so whenever you'd suggest his prices were to high.  I can hear his voice in my head now.

"Slit-Me-Own-Thoat why don't I?  You think I make a profit 'ere?  I gots me kids, me mum and me ole granny to tink about 'ere.  You tink dis 'ere meat comes cheap?  You tink I don't have me money tied up in dis here enterprise?  Slit-Me-Own-Throat to seel at a lower price I tells you."

And here, standing... well now laying.. in front of me is a guy who slit his own throat.

My very own, true to life "Slit-Me-Own-Throat" Thug.

I looked around, to make sure if anybody had noticed how expertly I had dealt with this thug.  I mean, that foot smash was a brilliant move.  But no.. everybody was admiring the Orc, and some foolish guy who wadded into the fight weaponless and tried to simply PUNCH his way through?

The Fighter seemed to of been hurt by acid or something like that.  I shook my head.  I approached him and used a bit of Magic I picked up in order to heal him a little bit.  I made a dramatic show of it and everything.  The guy was proper impressed.

Then the Elf glowed and all our wounds were cured.

Stupid Half-Elf.

Our little impromptu group stood around in confusion for a bit.  The Apparent Leader of the Purple Robes was still alive.  The Orc tried to wake up up with a slap, then he picked him up.  The guy died Foaming at the mouth.  The Unsavory looking guy who was gambling found a card for The Rusty Rudder on one of the purple robes.  One of the group mentioned that the Well Dressed Man was some lord or some such.  Interesting.

The Innkeeper decided that this was time to ask us to leave.  Before leaving I had to satisfy myself and make sure the wall was really a wall.  The group all stared in slack jawed awe of my pure brilliance as I knocked on the wall and confirmed, indeed it was a wall.

One of the group found out from the Innkeeper that The Rudder was in the Puddles.

Great.  From low, to lower....

I had a fleeting mental image of being a Great Bard, sitting in a fancy mansion, singing for lords and ladies.

How boring.

This.  This is a tale to tell.  That's how you become a Great Bard, live the tale.

I gather up the group and convince them to all head with me to the Puddles.  They follow me eagerly.

Once we reach the Puddles, I approach a foul beggar.  The man is in a bad state.  I offer him a few coppers in order to direct us to the Rudder.  He at first doesn't want to do it.  That's when the dis-reputable gambler.. He never told us his name, I'll just call him Shadow, that's a good name for a flunky.  Shadow convinces the guy to direct us to the Rudder.

Once we get there, I'm almost convinced we were lied to.  This couldn't be an Inn?  This had to be a pig sty.  It was filthy.  After a bit of trouble, the Innkeeper

After a bit of trouble, my gang are able to talk this guy into giving up the secret and he shows us a secret passage into dark tunnels.  Dark, dark tunnels.

I show off a bit of superior intellect as I pick up a beer mug and make it glow.  I'm incredibly proud of this.

My companions are in awe.

The time in the sewers aren't really all that important.  Up until the Orc tripped over a huge raccoon.  How?   We had a nice little fight with this giant Raccoon.  My flunky Elf shot it in the head, good man.

We came up to the end of line.  A pool of water.  I duck my head in and see that there is another chamber not far away under it.  I convince the others to swim over.

A short swim later and we're over in another chamber.  Except my Flunky.  That guy's afraid of water?  I shake my head.

But he comes along.  A good follower is so hard to come by, and I don't want that stupid Half-Elf magic user as my flunky.  Shadow is much better, as he actually seems to know what he's doing.

Anyways, not to make too much of deal over things, but after seeing a ledge the group of num-skulls begin talking of climbing up.  I smartly look around and notice a broken ladder and a wheel on the wall.

The Fighter guy calmly walks over and just turns the wheel.

He doesn't test it.  He doesn't think about it.  He just turns the wheel.

Stupid, stupid brawler.

The water level in the chamber starts to rise.  I expertly deduce that turning the wheel was the smart option and am glad that I thought of it.

Once up to the ledge, we all walk down the tunnel to a door.  Being the leader, obviously I had to listen in. at the door.  I hear that all is not as we thought.  Of 'course these brilliant bad guys hear me.  Impossible as I sneaked up perfectly.

Anyways, I explain to the group.  Orc moves me out of the way to protect me.

Loyal, Orc.

Orc smashes down the door.  The Mayor yells and screams bloody murder as a baddie runs out of the room.  Orc, Brawler and the stupid stupid Elf chase after him.

Shadow and Myself..? We stay behind to chat with the Mayor.   He tried fooling us, but he was barking up the wrong tree.  I informed him of the truth of the matter, then sicked Shadow on him.

Shadow's work is a thing of beauty.  It was perfect.  A masterpiece performance.

Unfortunately the guy turned black and died.

Later we met back up with the group.  Something wasn't sitting right with me.  I kept going over and over what I heard Baddie and Mayor talking about.  Something about it was wrong.

Apparently Baddie grew wings and flew over the pit.... that is bad.  Real bad..

Then it hit me like a tone of bricks....

Oh.... even worse.

Eclipse into Darkness

These are dark days. I've spent the past few months wandering Absolom and the surrounding areas covered by an invisible cloak of darkness. Maybe I should just go to Shadow Absolom and live with the other dark, fetid creatures like myself who live in the shadows. The things that go bump in the night that make you scamper through dark alleys as fast as you can. Those are the creatures who are my kindred.

I feel lost since losing my love...

I can't think clearly anymore. Now I am nothing but a lost soul with a shattered heart with no hope of escaping the darkness. Then one night I ran into a pub for no reason other than to have some sort of interaction with society and civilization whom I have shunned since my wife died. The only other reason I was even in with people was because of the Festival that was going on. Watching people die attempting to accomplish some ego trip amuses me for some reason. In my dark, twisted mind nothing is more amusing than that so I figured having a pint or two beforehand was a good idea.

As I hid in the shadows like I normally do watching the typical mundane things that happen in pubs like this. However the sheer amount of guys in purple robes piqued my curiosity. However I figured they were some cult that was going to brainwash me which made me figure it was time to go. Just as I'm about to slither out of the bar things got interesting.

The robes tried to kidnap a politician I saw once. I believe he was giving a speech once during one of my wanderings so I caught the tail end of what he was saying. However upon noticing the robes getting weapons I decide to hide behind a bigger creature so I then roll over and jump over the bar to get a drink and watch the idiots fight amongst themselves.

Then it hits me. If they lose to the robes I'm next so my best course of action is to jump into the fight so I grab a beer mug and chuck it at one of the robed men at which point it hit him in the back of the head. Soon the fight was over and for some reason I find myself joining the group of misfits and vagabonds who were fighting the cultists.

Some of them needed healing so I healed them up with one of my healing spells. After that with my leadership and guidance we rousted some information out of him after the cultists committed ritualistic suicide before we could confront him. We found out that the robes were headed to the Puddles and a place called The Rudder. The Puddles is more my style so I decided to tag along with these misfits. After some chit chat with the homeless and some mental institution escapees we reached the Rudder.

However the stupid bartender didn't give me my drink and instead threatened to throw us out at which point we forced him to show us where the purple robed cultists went. Of course we had to go down into the sewer and I, being the bravest, had to lead the way down until we decided to put the big guys up front so I stayed in the back to guard us from an ambush from behind. Soon we were attacked by a foaming raccoon creature which we soon fought off after it gave two of my companions.

Soon we came to water which we swam across the water without any problems. As usual I was the leader and swam across without any problems. I did however hit my head trying to show them the way. Upon swimming across we found a chasm that led up but no way to get up other than climbing. The smart one of the group saw a wheel and turned it which almost drowned us but got us to the top of the chasm. After a bit of walking we found a door which had the politician and the robes inside. Upon finding out that this was all a set up job we busted down the down the door, recaptured the politician, and chased one of the minions of the demonic out the door. I chased him down only to see him turn into a winged demon from hell. The group met back up and we discussed some things which only made it more clear to me. My path back to society and living a normal, happy life once again is at the end of this journey.

I'm supposed to be off Tue/Wed this week, so staying up late wouldn't be a problem, but in addition to working my eight hour shift, apparently I'm now going to have to head over to another town (about 2 hour drive) to do some training (? hours) then a 2 hour drive home, and Monday is my Birthday, so I'm not sure if I'm doing anything for that, or just throwing my hands up in the air and going "Eh."

Reason I had let his INT be 9 is because I felt he would not be to Street Smart ...He live a shelter life  as a  monk and knows many things , but not know how the world works and don't know that much about the  people in the world ... A lot of what he sees and hears would be more of mystery to him and he would struggle to understand why things are happening during the adventures.  It does not take away that he punch really fucking hard   lol

That why when he was turned , I just kind of play it with him going with his basic instincts ... those guys bad ... got  to attack them ... take a bite out of them.

http://www.rpgobjects.com/index.php?c=orpg&m=getorpg (http://www.rpgobjects.com/index.php?c=orpg&m=getorpg)

There is this.  Its a program each of us would have to download but it literally does exactly what we want from what I'm reading.
Title: Re: RPG on Skype
Post by: Stoner on February 15, 2013, 01:12:13 AM
Been toying with that program I linked to there.  We would likely want to practice using it a little, unless we use it solely for the dice function that is.  We can make a lobby that will be able to be seen by all users, but can require a password to get into it if we want.  I wouldn't be able to macro things like I could on rolz, but that's fine.  Its fairly intuitive for the most part.  There is a grid that we can utilize that allows us to have a visuals in combat as far as placement and whatnot, but that's the thing we would have to screw around with in our free time as opposed to trying to figure it out while we were playing.

It also has a chatbox that all of our roles go to, and from what I've read has the ability to let each of us have our own little mini-chat boxes with one another.  So if for example Bone needs a specific one of us to make a roll unknown to the other players, he can tell us in our own chat box that we can also make the roll itself in.  So that only him and the player making the roll would know about it.  I'd need more than just me on the program at once to be sure about that though.

Its a good program from what I've managed to mess with so far.

It's fine. Just a weird work week schedule wise for me. I don't come home till 8 the rest of the week so by then its too late to start a session. I'll get my new schedule tomorrow and see where we can fit things in next week

In complete honesty, if we could do it earlier in the week next week that would be superb.  I'll be in Dallas and will have a family full of people able to help Raenea watch the babies for me.
Title: Re: RPG on Skype

Totally throwing my vote on Monday.  Wednesday is a drive from Dallas to TC for me, plus a possible taking Raenea to work that night, so no telling.

Then we'll have to wait until next week I think.  I had to drive from Dallas to TC from midnight to 4:30 this morning, off of little sleep to begin with.  Got to sleep from 5 this morning to 9, but still dragging ass even after a couple Monster Energy drinks and will likely be getting some more sleep after I wake up Raenea at 5 PM.

Sorry  :'(

Title: Re: RPG on Skype
Post by: T-Bonizzle on May 29, 2013, 12:15:17 AM
So let's talk about our Fiasco.

Act 1

We are introduced to Gordon McAllister, a former Crime Boss who has now settled down to a mundane life of working the mines and volunteering at the local Church. He is visited by his former sidekick, Jim Franks. Jim and his brother Nigel were orphaned at a young age and Gordon took them in, though only Jim was ever allowed into the crime business and Nigel was largely ignored. Nigel had a romance with a local slut, Bambi Eastwood and thus encounter has largely left Nigel damaged. Bambi in her spare time volunteers at the Church with Gordon, and they've developed a rapport.

Our story begins when Jim visits Gordon, ready to get Gordon back into the crime game for one last big score. Jim tells Gordon of a plan to steal a heavy sack goldust from the Union Boarding House. Gordon insists he retired from the crime game and is now living a mundane life under God. Ultimately, Jim is unable to convince Gordon to go along with the heist. Jim leaves the church mumbling about how Gordon abandoned him and the rest of the gang.

Later that day Jim is back home with his brother Nigel. Dejected about his encounter with Gordon, Jim confides of wanting to get rich with Nigel. During the course of the conversation Jim offers to work with Nigel to steal the gold. Nigel has never been included in his brother's work before, and warms up to the idea. They resolve to work together as brothers to steal the gold.

Meanwhile at the church, Bambi Eastwood approaches Gordon and confronts him about his conversation with Jim earlier. Gordon tries to be coy but eventually Bambi tricks Gordon into revealing the nature of the conversation. Bambi thinks that this is against God's will, so Gordon suggest they both go to Jim's house to talk him out of it. They head to his house and Jim recants his plan, talks about bringing his brother in. The idea of vast riches tempts Bambi and she changes her tune to wanting in on this idea. Gordon reluctantly recants, and they resolve to steal this gold.

Later at a bar, Bambi and Nigel meet up to talk. Bambi begins telling Nigel how wonderful, great, and smart he is. She suggests they cut Gordon and Jim out of the deal for the gold and split the haul two-ways. Nigel feeling a little more important now agrees.

Later, Bambi also meets up with Jim. She tells Jim how great and smart he is, and points out how stupid his brother Nigel is, and how controlling Gordon is. Jim is reluctant to say bad things about his brother or his mentor. Still, Bambi suggests that they cut Gordon and Nigel out of the deal and split the gold two-ways. This would be the biggest haul Jim ever received, and he also agrees.

And that ends Act 1 - Tune in for Act 2, where the characters discover that what they have stolen has been stolen...and that someone will coldheartedly settle a score.

Uhm.

David Lee Roth entered the Inn with a Mace.  He attacked a Vampire or two, to no effect.

Tidus did some bad ass shit and thundercraped a Vampire.  Blowing a hole in a wall and (I think setting the inn on fire.)

We grabbed our stuff and ran outside only to run into a big bitch Vampire (who is basically a clone of the Sucubus)

She took control of Tidus.  Prancy tried doing something to him, rolled a one so made him STRONGER.

She tried taking control of me, fuck that noise.

Prancy did good, and summoned a .... something, it did mega damage.

We all took her down.

She said that she can never, EVER Die...

So I've told BD about this, but I figure I'll throw out the invite to everyone.

While searching for things online, I found a PDF for a Legend of Zelda d20 system.  Its meant to work with DnD 3.0/3.5, but the modification from that system to Pathfinder is fairly straightforward and easy to work out.

Anyway, I'm working on the back story for what sets up for the campaign, so its not anywhere close to being ready to being run yet, but the PDF can be obtained for free here (http://www.kobolds-keep.net/smoke/Zelda%20D20%20Sourcebook.pdf) at the host website.  I plan to change a few things to make it more accessible, as well as I'm not going to limit the classes to just what is presented in the PDF(although the ones in there are fairly cool admittedly).

But yeah.  Just throwing that out there.

I've got a rough idea of the backstory setting up for this game.  It takes liberties in regards to the history of the LoZ universe but, hey, what game doesn't?
The Hero of Time failed to protect the land of Termina from  the Skull Kid and Majora's Mask.  At the end of the third day, Link fought with all the power at his disposal but failed to overcome the might of the cursed object.  With the very existence of the planet at stake, the Guardian Spirits the world banded together to mitigate as much of the damage as possible.  While some lands such as Koholint Island or Labrynna were destroyed utterly, but not before their inhabitants could be moved to a new land.  This new land was created when the Guardian Spirits merged the Termina and Hyrule continents.

With many of the Spirits sacrificing not only their power, but their lives, they gave of themselves willingly knowing that their sacrifices would not be in vain.  That the lives they saved would band together to help make the world the flourishing land it once had been, or as close as they could.

For a while this was true, and all of the races worked together to rebuild what they could.  Some of the dominant features from Termina and Hyrule survived such as the Snowpeaks or the Kokiri Forest.  Others, such as the ill fated Clocktown became something new when the Zora people took residence in the ocean sized crated left by the impact of the moon.

In the year 137 PI (Post Impact) the King of Hyrule, ignorant of the influence of Majora's Mask, became enraged at the destruction that had been caused by the hand of the Skull Kid.  Knowing that getting revenge on the perpetrator was impossible(as the Skull Kid had been destroyed by the impact of the moon) he took out his rage on the next thing he could- The Kokiri People.  His soldiers attacked their home and they fought back as best they could.  The Hyrulians gave an ultimatum to all the other races of the world, decrying that all were either with or against them in their crusade to end the lives of all the Kokiri.  The Gorons, Subrosians and Tokay all sided with the Hyrulians while the Zora, Rito and Gerudo all banded together to help the Kokiri fight off this menace.

This war lasted for hundreds of years, with many casualties on all sides.  Over that time many changes began to take place in the world.  Lord JabuJabu, still weak from the expenditure of power it took to save the Zoran people, became xenophobic towards the other races of the world.  The Zoran people began to shut themselves off and abandoning the war with only a small village worth branching off and taking up residence elsewhere.  The Tokay, seeing that the Zorans had left the war as well as Clock Town, took up residence in the ruins.  After a handful of years they, too, dropped out of the fight.

The war was only ended when the leader of the Kokiri people, a young lady with great influence over her people, surrendered the war in a bid to prevent any more damage from being done to the already ravaged world.  As part of the surrender agreement the Kokiri were not allowed to own land outside of their Forest and the Lost Woods had to be blockaded so none may enter and lose their way again.

And then Shadow took control of the shadow that came out of the shadows to attack Shadow and used the shadow to attack Carrick. Well after it attacked the Basilisk.

Oh, yeah, we fought Carrick BTW. He had levels in everything. Tidus blew a fate point to crit lightning bolt him and shiz. And then BD (under my control) critted and kicked him in the head (after having - under Stoner's control - death-murdered his pet Basilisk) so I could shoot him twice (for massive damage) and then Prancy kill stole with magic missile and it turned out he was a clone or was transferring to other clones or whatevs. Stoner got a Dork Axe because the dOrc with the Dork axe crit fumbled it into his hand. You (controled by me) saved him from dying when the Carrick body died in a Negative Energy 'Splosion. Prancy Saved BD.

Also Jag, you have Cats Grace in your spell list and you have never  cast it on either me or BD - aka the guys who live and breathe their DEX attack?! Or on yourself before using a ranged attack?! What kind of a Buff-caster are you?!

I've made the executive decision that we're playing Ironclaw, and we'll discuss it in detail over the course of the week in chat, over skype, and then during our session on Thursday. We may or may not be able to handle character creation by then.

Couple of things I would like at least one person in the party to have, so think about it when thinking about characters.

Gift of Literacy - Common folk can't read in general. Reading is usually reserved for members of the church, members of government, and rich people. Common farmers don't know how to read and generally don't need to.

I'd like someone to consider being a leader. Leadership is important for combat and could help you turn the tide of battle in your favor.

Maybe someone wants to dabble in some magic? Not a big deal if no one does.

I'd like someone to be a miscreant character, that'll be important for some story elements.

I'm not interested in someone being of nobility BUT we can talk about it if you've got a good idea.

I'd also like to have you guys avoid doubling up on species. Try to pick different ones.

Overall let's get creative on characters. This game allows for a lot of customizability and I'm going to be very flexible and casual about this. I won't be shoehorning backstory into your characters like I did in Pathfinder.

Cliff notes for the interested (and our bear friend)

* We made it to Trescillian right at the start and we're stopped by the gate guards. The gates aren't normally shut (Prancy tells us, being our line of information), so we have to find a way in.
* The guards ask us our business. Jag takes charge and announces he's a paladin (this comes up a lot). Prancy the raccoon tries to claim he's also here for religious purposes. He botches the first opposed roll of the game and is completely disbelieved.
* Jag agrees to take responsibility for everyone (vouching for us basically), meaning it's on his head if anyone does anything wrong. Stoner the pyromaniac squirrel and the rascally Prancy rub their paws together.
* We also find out the gates are closed because of an outlaw known as Tassobianco, who has been waylaying rich travellers on the north road and murdering the crap out of them. And setting them on fire.
* Entering the city Prancy wants to drink but everyone else wants to church it up - we head to the cathedral. Monette checks out the surroundings and is generally exciteable, Prancy does some snooping and finds out some more about the situation. Jag finds out a little bit too.
* We find an inn for the night and we have a look at the festival that's been going on, Prancy gets wasted and tries to hook up with women, Momo climbs a pole to get a better look at it all. Stoner skulks to hope he doesn't get mugged.
* Azeban (Prancy's raccoon), failed spectacularly to score. So spectacularly in fact that he doesn't know
if any woman in the city will talk to him ever again. He passes out drunkenly in the street and gets hauled back to the inn.
* Next morning we head out to the market, Momo finds some beavers making awesome carvings and Jag befriends them by buying one, as well as discovering that the reward for taking down Tassobianco is enormous.
* Meanwhile Prancy is getting reacquainted with his criminal friends, from which he gleans that hardly any guards have been postedon the north road - are the guardsmen afraid? He also finds out that the miscreant appears to have an anti-royalist agenda and is definitely a wizard. He had been recruiting at the docks a while ago but it's a cold trail.
* We head to the constable's and meet Wilgefortis the skunk, who lets us know that Tassobianco is a badger (he asks Jag discretely if he's with Azeban to get him killed). We pay for a warrant and Prancy manages to find out that Tassobianco is albino as opposed to just white furred.
* Meeting some friendsof our beaver pals - a pair of otters, we hear they're willing to head out north if we guard them along the way in a couple days. Jag gallantly refuses payment. Azeban is saddened greatly.
* Following a hunch that Tassobianco has a specific grudge against royals/nobility, we look for signs of badger houses in the city. Prancy can remember a story about a badger family being repossessed but that's about it. We head to a taxhouse to try and find out more from documents.
* We do research. Prancy can't help on account of being illiterate, nor will being drunk or overconfident help. Apparently one cannot challenge documents to a fight. Even so we discover that Tassobianco is in fact a house name rather than a personal one, and find the address of the old estate.
* It has been repurposed for 'official use'... that is, it's now a upper-crust race course for the rich of the city. Hmm.
* We regroup for the night with one day before we leave, making a few plans to make ourselves less conspicuous for the journey ahead, since we don't want to appear obvious fighters.

Finally, Triskellian! It's been a long while walking, and I just about went crazy waiting around in that fort... but the roads aren't safe for lone travellers around here - a lot of talk of brigands and madmen, and the Rinaldi are still trying to put everything back together from when an army swept through here. Anyhow, in the end I found a group that were all headed that way - few merchants, that kind of thing, making their way to Triskellian for the festival, and we formed a caravan. Glad of the company, being on my own got lonely and I spent half the nights waking up at the slightest noise. Don't miss it.

So they're an interesting bunch. No clockwork amongst the merchants sadly, though there was some tapestry and pottery, as well as a couple kegs of ale. The stragglers though, people like me, well that's quite a bunch. Brother Bulliwar I don't think anyone could miss - he's a moose the size of a house! He's a paladin too... we spoke a little about the faith but I got the sense that he was focused on travelling and left him alone. Talos, a black bear... real scary looking, like he could take someone's head off with a claw. We didn't talk much. Then there's Azeban, the raccoon - he told me a couple things about Triskellian, he's from there, but hasn't been home in a while. I like him, even if he spent a lot of time taking wistful glances at the ale. There's also this squirrel, but he kept to himself a lot and I didn't even manage to get a name out of him, still, I will sooner or later since-

Oh I'm getting ahead of myself!

So we made it to Triskellian and through the gates, not without a little talking. There's an outlaw named Tassobianco been raiding wagons around the city, stealing goods and murdering merchants and nobles - serious business! Brother Bullivar vouched for us and got us in... I thought for a second he was gonna get stuck in the postern gate but he made it through. Ohhh, the cathedrale de Temoin though! We went there after we made it inside and it's just so beautiful, all ornate and gilded and absolutely amazing. There's even this huge clock on a pendulum, not clockwork but I think using equilibrium... it's incredible! I could've spent hours there, but we needed to find someplace to stay. Azeban knew a place called the Fox's Ears, so we got a place in the common room and then went to check out the festival.

It was so much fun!! There were crowds all over, everyone having a good time, these cool looking little torch things... and a little drink - hey I'm an adult, I'm allowed! I managed to get a great view when I shimmied a flagpole; even from above Brother Bullivar stood out like a beacon. I gave him a wave but I don't think he saw. Anyway, I partied pretty late but made it back... unlike Azeban, who wound up having to sleep it off.

Oh! And the next morning I went to market, couldn't find clockwork but I met these beavers who were making the most gorgeous dioramas of events from Sullimar, like the birth of Helios! By their own teeth! They told me a lot about how they did it, and Brother Bulliwar bought one. I really wanted one... but I still have to watch my money so I don't run out on my way back home, and the carvings are pretty, just not really a technique my parents could use. On the other hands, we heard more about Tassobianco, and apparently the reward for busting him is enormous. NINE AUREALS! WOW!

The Brother was interested already, since he felt like it was his duty to protect people - he's a good man. The talk of the reward got the others; Azeban and Talos and the squirrel, very interested. As for me well... it is a lot of money, and this Tassobianco is a wizard, apparently- didn't I leave Harrogate for this kind of thing? A real big adventure like in the tales? And since I'm with these guys for now then gee, it's not like an epic quest is just gonna fall in my lap if I go to market every day looking for clockwork.

So I'm going along with them! We went to the guardhouse and tracked down Wilgefortis, the constable. He knew Azeban on sight... how surprising that he's a sketchy type, ha. Still we got a warrant for hunting down Tassobianco, but I had to pitch in a denarii to get it. Ouch. Hope I don't take too many more hits to my wallet like that. Turns out the villain is a badger, and an albino at that... very interesting. So we've got the information and needed a plan... which we think we came up with along the way.

In the meantime, we visited our beaver friends - they told Bullivar that they knew a couple otter fishermen who might be considering heading north. Blech. I hate fish. Still, we spoke with these otters and they let us know that if they had guards - that is, us - then they'd be willing to risk the road. Sound good? Draw out Tassobianco by posing as a group of merchants... and then take the fight to him? Solid an idea as any! Bullivar turned down payment for the job, which I guess is fair since they'll be in danger and you know, we're in this for reward money in the first place.

So with a couple days to kill until the otters were ready to head out, we followed up on a hunch I had. Since Tassobianco had been targeting the wealth and well-to-do, then perhaps he held some sort of specific grudge against the nobility? Maybe he had a history of some kind? Well it was just an idea, but Azeban told us that a couple years back he'd heard about a minor house of badgers losing their land to the Rinaldi here in Triskellian - worth following up on! We tracked down the closest tax house and hit the books. Azeban offered to help a few times, even after I explained that y'know... he couldn't help if he couldn't read, but he meant well I guess. Brother Bullivar was pretty good at it though, he gave me a huge hand (both metaphorically and literally) and lo and behold... we found out about the House of Tassobianco, whose home had been repossessed by the state for 'official use'. How about that?

Turned out, official use equals they built a racecourse for lizards. Real swanky type of place, too - definitely for the upper crust and not just anyone. Sheesh... I'm starting to see why a guy might hold a grudge if that's the Rinaldi's idea of the good of the state.

Anyhow. We head out in a couple days. Good fortune and Sullimar bless us.

Haven't had a settled moment to write for a while, and we've had some big developments, so shame on me for not keeping up the pace!

The big news is that we embarked on the hunt for Tassobianco with Carlo and Franco, our otter friends. It was a bit of a trek but hey, nothing I haven't walked before, right? I didn't fly from Harrogate. Eventually we found where the city had abandoned maintenance on the road... big piles of dirt from where they'd redug the trail but hadn't got around to dispersing it all yet. Felt like being in a canyon.

And lo and behold, that's when our quarry made their presence known. I wasn't worried at first - just a rat and a polecat saying stand and deliver... in retrospect I should've known better, but anyhow, Carlo and Franco put their paws up whilst I slipped out my gun sneaky-like. Put down my sword for show... but Talos wasn't having any of a stand-off, he was like a blur! I've never seen someone move so fast, charged straight past me... and then things got messy.

Me and the rat swapped gunfire, missed, whilst Talos started slashing at the polecat with his bare (heh... bear) claws. That was when the rat called out and wouldn't you know it... we were being ambushed. Eight guys popped up from behind the dirt mounds, from both sides! Luckily Brother Bullivar was there to fight off the ones on our left near enough by himself, or I don't know what would have happened, especially after Talos got hurt fighting. As for me well... I tried to deal with one of our attackers, tried to y'know, do the old jump-n-punch and got stabbed clean out of the air. I knew this was going to be dangerous but...

Well, wow.

He caught me badly, real badly. Couple inches the other way and I might be shy a lung right about now. There was a lot of blood, sure as hell more than I ever saw, let alone from myself. That was when Azeban showed up - jumped straight off the cart and took a chunk out of the guy with his rapier, ran him off right quick, right when I was busting a cold sweat even thinking of throwing another punch. Nearby we had squirrelface, and god Sullimar - he can throw fire! Another attacker went up in flames, Carlo and Franco pitching in and knocking him silly with a fish of all things.

Then... our main man showed up. Tassobianco in the flesh and with some kind of magic wand. Azeban shook it off the first time, and charged him right away to set to with the rapier again, but then got floored, Brother Bullivar came over from where he and Talos were fighting and he gets downed too. Meanwhile, one of the other dudes didn't take too kindly to getting a fish thrown at him and tries to stab Franco - I came charging in and introduced his jaw to my foot. That showed him.

Just when I'm thinking we're in trouble though... Fireball steps up and almost INCINERATES Tassobianco! Damn that was intense! And scary! I tried to make myself helpful, launched a dagger at the last guy standing, and uh... well I guess practicing with rotten fruit back home came in handy - hit him straight between the shoulderblades... I really thought I'd killed him at first...

And speaking of it was a close run thing for a while. Bullivar and me had to work real hard to stop Tassobianco from dying... makes me kind of... for all that, we kept him alive just so he could go to trial and wind up hanged... sheesh...

Turns out too that in the fighting, Talos had pretty much ripped the polecat's face off with his claws. That was... wow. Like I said, a couple inches the other way and I'd have been breathing blood. Adventure is one thing but people nearly died, and he DID die... A criminal, sure enough, but that was so brutal that I...

Yeah. Wow. Would I use claws if I had them? I can shoot a little and my throwing arm's good, but mostly I just know how to take care of myself in a brawl. I guess near enough I'd have to... and then it's just a short stop to tearing throats out. Pretty sure Talos saved the guy I hit with my dagger from bleeding out. Nearly had blood on my hands...

Blah. Heavy.

Anyhow... luckily whilst we were resting up, a patrol happened along, maybe to check up on us. Tassobianco himself wasn't making much sense, just ranting and raving. He might have had justification for his hatred of the nobility but he'd turned into a psychopath - made me glad I'd made sure his wand wasn't anywhere close to him. It's a cool little doohickey, not sure exactly what it does and I sure as heck can't use it except as an ornament, maybe I'll ask Brother - oh. Getting ahead of myself again. Wilgefortis was in the patrol and sure enough we got our reward - a whole aureal and more than half of another in denarii... more money than I've ever had in my life. I've seen more going through my parent's place, but y'know, that was a month's take and most of it went into the essentials and equipment. Not just money you could spend anywhere.

We made it to three corners fort in time, and spent some time resting up - good thing considering three of us had been wounded during the fighting. Turns out that even a man as big as Brother Bullivar can have the wind taken out of him. Carlo and Franco made a real killing with their fish sales as well! I've seen mom and dad making sales before of course, but these guys... they're so good I think I picked up some new tricks, next time I have to make a deal. We accompanied them back to Triskellian - I hope we can meet up with them again, they were a real nice pair.

And that... was where things got a bit cloak and dagger. We got a message from one Professor I, from the college of Dunwaser ... requesting the presence of our group urgently. There was some discussion on that, and when we got there, the guard at the front gate was real furtive - I got the sense after a while that we weren't supposed to be there, and the meeting we had... wasn't an authorised one.

We met an otter, called himself I'asaac. He was in a wheelchair, and according to him, Blessed... Doloreaux religion, see where I'm going with this? He definitely didn't seem the most stable, and according to him, at least, in the battle a few years back, it wasn't Bisclavret who sacked Three Corners, but madmen, led by vermin from another continent. I mean, nobody back home seems to know exactly what happened, but this was on a whole new level of weird, especially when he starts spouting off about dragons!

In any case, I'asaac apparently near enough died in this battle, but the spirits he's Blessed with kept him alive as punishment and he's now confined to the college in exile... would sure explain how sneaky this all is, huh? He asked for our help in tracking down some of the operations of one of these vermin that they killed - he thinks it might have something to do with some of his 'contacts' disappearing. when he throws around names like The Horn and Lyon's Pride... you have to wonder if he was just ranting and raving.

He took off soon after, saying that guards were coming, and what do you know, they did. I can't tell if he's crazy, magical or both. Dragons? Those are the kinds of things I read about in stories, and well, what's to say he doesn't know the schedule of the patrols?

Gah, I don't know. It's all real sneaky and underhanded.

I'm still not sure what, if anything, we actually agreed to.

Keeping an ear to the ground.

The Mad Rantings of an Anonymous Squirrel

We made it to town after a few days of traveling.  My feet ached with the sores of a hundred burning stars.  As...  Excited... As i was to see the walls, I was enraged as it was pointed out that the gates were sealed and entry would likely be denied.  After the fool raccoon nearly got us sent away our prestigious Brother Bullivar was able to get me into the city by vouching for the lot of us.  Time will tell what kind of a mistake that may have been.

The night itself was less than adventurous.  Not trusting the people of the city in the midst of their revelry, I opted to stay near the good Brother.  Eventually I decided that not even safety was worth missing out on the sleep and headed back to the tavern.  Besides, should someone have decided to attack me in the night, I would have made them regret it.  Dearly.  I woke the next morning, or what I had believed to be morning, to find that the rest of my newfound cohorts had decided to gallivant across the city for whatever reasons they had.  When they returned, they informed me of a potential chance to make money by capturing the man responsible for keeping the city on such high alert.  And while I despise the thought of having to put myself in danger, the chance to convert these people to my cause down the line seems a good opportunity.  Too good to pass up in fact.

I suggest we use some merchants as bait.  The Brother gave me a stern glare, I'm sure he will have words for me when we are alone.  In the meantime everyone else decided that my suggestion held merit.  We visited with the merchants who had mentioned the bandit to begin with and while they had no intention of leaving the safety of the city, they did have a pair of friends who had recently decided against such an endeavor that may had been able to be convinced to do so again.  Of course they were easily swayed, especially after the fool Brother refused to allow us to accept payment for putting their lives in danger.  If he did not intend to have words with me, I will surely have some for him.

After a night of rest we made our way out.  We were not on the road for long before we were stopped by a pair of... Gentlemen.  Gunfire was exchanged before a brawl broke out.  After seeing the fury of Talos being unleashed upon his ally, the rat called out for his friends who set upon us from every angle.  And while I am shamed to admit it, I took a defensive stance in order to not draw attention to myself if possible.  After watching the bear take blows that would have felled a lesser being, and seeing the lady monkey get stabbed while attempting to perform a feat more flash than substance, and knowing that my survival depended on the rapidly lacking competence of those alongside me, I could no longer stand in the shadows.

As one of the bandits attempted to close in on me, I unleashed a burst of fire into him.  Despite him being the one on fire, I believe I may have been as surprised by the results as he had been.  While the effigies and targets of my youth had ignited with similar gusto I was not expecting such spectacular results from a living being.  Incapable of understanding how to stop himself from burning, he was then set upon by an unlikely attack from our merchant benefactors, who unleashed the fury of their produce upon him.  Evidently bewildered by the combination of being set ablaze as well as set upon by fish, my poor foe fled the field of battle.  I turned to survey the scene to see my simian friend in need of encouragement.

Instead I instructed her to rise to her feet, to be the proud warrior she gives the aura of wanting to be.  It seemed to do the trick as I prepared to set another target ablaze, spotting the very target we had been sent to retrieve as he cast a myriad of debilitating spells at the good Brother Bullivar.  As soon as I had an opening I sent forth my blazing fury upon the man, igniting him as well.  And while the smell was just as strong as it had been for the poor soul I had crisped a few moments before, I was less stupefied and readied myself to set forth another blaze should it be required.

A strike from the Raccoon made it so that my services would no longer be needed as he stopped the bandit from fleeing the scene.  The dear Monkey made sure to prevent the last of our opposition from fleeing with a well placed dagger.  The Brother was quick to restore the fallen back to...  A semblance of health.  I questioned our quarry for his motivations and he gave some rant of his family estates having been taken from him and questioned the justice of it all.  He was lucky I did not set him ablaze again on principle, but the Brother would have not taken kindly to such an action and the last thing I needed was for my new allies to begin to regret being in my company.

After a bit of waiting, a troop of guards appeared and I allowed them to take charge of the situation.  They thanked and paid us for our work and assisted the merchants the rest of the way to the city.  It was during this time back that the Monkey, Moe she calls herself, must have realized she knew everyone's name but my own.  I dodged the questions as best I could before I was granted a reprieve by the sight of the city walls.  We spent a night resting and tending our wounded.  I've decided it would be in my best interests to learn to care for these fools if they are to be my muscle for the foreseeable future.  Perhaps my keeping them alive will encourage them to repay the favor when I begin my coup of this nation.

During my studies, Bullivar received a message from someone calling themselves Professor I.  And while a message addressed to one of them would normally be of little consequence to me, the letter requested the presence of us as a group and I became intrigued.  My...  Natural curiosity one might say.  We spoke with a guard who was reticent to let us enter the college, but after a bit of discussion he allowed us to enter.  We met with this "Professor" who informed us that he was, evidently, an immortal.  Blessed by his god, he said.  Again, this would be of little consequence for me but then he mentioned something I thought never to hear, a dragon.  My cohorts doubted the validity of his statements, thinking them to be simple fairy tales.  But then I've never been one to give up on something just because it might not exist.  He asked us for assistance in locating some of his former foes and gave us a few names and things to be on the watch for.  Shortly thereafter he made leave saying the guards were likely to be on their way.  We did the same and fled the premises.

I must say, as outrageous as it sounds on paper...  Dragons?  Immortals?  If I could harness even a fraction of either one of those powers I could be...

King.

From the journal of Monette Clockwise

I don't know how to properly put into words the events of the past day. It's the small hours of the morning, and I'm only putting quill to paper because I can't close my eyes without seeing the blood, the carnage, replayed again and again.

It started off so... innocuously. Our group had arisen in the Three Spears, ready to discuss our meeting with the strange professor the previous evening. We were interrupted by a fox, a cleric of some kind, with a summons addressed first to Brother Bullivar, but also the rest of us. We departed for the cathedrale de Temoin once again... or at least those of us sober enough to walk in a straight line. Azeban was sleeping it off.

Once we arrived, I'll have to admit I took some time out to sketch the pendulum clock. I'm no expert, and I doubt I could try putting together something as intently designed as that from just a little drawing. Still, I kept half an ear on the others; Captain Wilgefortis was here, as well as Brother Saxon, who Brother Bullivar had spoken with previously, if I remembered right. In simple terms, one of Tassobianco's henchmen, Deuspade, the one-eyed rat who we'd encountered during the ambush, had been trying to pull the badger's operation back together... and Wilgefortis was willing to pay us to put a stop to it once again.

I mean, I have to consider my path on from Triskellian sooner or later, but the group I've found myself with are definitely a capable bunch... and when I'm with them, I feel like more than just the kid of a clockmaker. And I guess I am more than that, now. For better or worse.

Accepting the warrant, we decided to try and find out some more information and split up - Talos and the squirrel... I've taken to calling him 'Flint' because y'know, he's used to start fires, headed off to the docks, whilst Bullivar and I investigated the city library. We looked over some maps of the north road but didn't tell us a lot more than we already knew, certainly no locations screaming out 'secret hideout!' or 'find scummy bandits here!'. The Brother tried to invoke S'allumer's aid... but the divine prayer wound up pointing at the gates of the city. I guess faith can't solve everything, all of the time.

With that exhausted, we moved onto trying to find more about our mysterious benefactor I'asaac, and with some digging, we actually turned up some information. A porcupine name of Daniel had written of 'the survivors of sunken inn', citing famous names like The Horn alongside unfamiliar ones... and that of I'asaac, the bartender. Daniel spoke of an inn collapsing into the ground, and those inside battling spiders, madmen... and a monstrous centipede. Just as I'asaac had mentioned - the vermin of Zangue? It seemed a strange coincidence indeed to run across another independent source. Was the otter telling the truth after all?

Leaving the library, we all met back at Three Spears. Talos and Flint were a little worse for the wear, having gone through, it transpired, the sewer systems. Eesh. Better them than me. Asides from the smell though, they felt they'd found a secret exit from Triskellian - perhaps this was how Deuspade's men were getting in and out of the city? We opted to set up an ambush... and that's when the nightmare began.

We waited for perhaps an hour, arrayed around that narrow tunnel outside the city walls. Then, a rat emerges from the darkness. Talos comes roaring after him - subdue, take down, I'm sure were his motives.

The rat struggles, Talos adjusts his grip, trying to maintain a chokehold... and wrenches so hard that with a rending, ripping of flesh, cracking of bones, the rat's head is torn from his body.

Others emerge from the darkness - an ambush to our ambush. Have we been seen whilst setting up? Crossbowmen, swordsmen, they attack from both sides of the river. Brother Bullivar is beset, but if I ever needed a demonstration of the man's terrifying power... he cleaves another rat in twain with one sweep of his sword, lays about himself as I spring out of my position and Talos grapples with a new adversary. Bullivar is blocking arrows with his shield, striking out at our enemies, bisecting another rat with nothing more than a swing of that enormous sword. S'allumer... so much blood.

Crossbow bolts whiz past my head, I dodge, duck, do everything I can to evade them as I brawl my way through rats, pushing them back with punches, kicks, knees, anything I can do. Somewhere in the middle of it, my dagger is out and thrown - I turn away as I hear the 'thunk' of it making impact, expecting a cry of pain. There's none... the rat goes down wheezing, sucking blood, the dagger buried to the hilt in his chest. I've no time to contemplate it as a new foe charges at me. Quick as lightning, acting on instinct, my pistol's drawn. Blam.

Shot in the head. The rat goes down with his skull a bloody ruin from my bullet. Aiming at targets, bottles, scrap metal... they can't compare to the destructive reality of a bullet. My blood's pumping, I can't stop - I can see Flint throwing fireballs from his position up in a tree, and then there's an almighty bellow, then a roar of anguish, rage. I spin. Brother Bullivar is falling, collapsing to the ground, a bolt sticking out of his face, nay his eye. My heart stops. That shouldn't be possible. It can't be happening. He's too big, too strong to just-

I lunge for the next nearest thing pointing a weapon at me. I connect flush with the rat's jaw with the hardest kick of my life. Something cracks, and suddenly the rodent's face is giving way to my foot, bones shattering, skull crunching with the impact. He drops without a sound. How is that even possible? And still, the rats fight - even with half a dozen of their number dead on the ground, they hold up weapons and press on. Flint speaks then, a commanding tone, demanding hostilities cease. The survivors quiver, too afraid to strike, somehow unable to flee.

Magic it transpires. They were being used as puppets by a Scorpion. Another of the vermin I'asaac mentioned? This can't be to chance.

Brother Bullivar is alive, for now. Azeban was able to find guardsmen and bring them to us, take in our captives and get our injured to a hospital. That he hasn't died... with the bolt striking him the way it has... I pray for his health.

I'm unhurt, completely unharmed. Nobody landed so much as a scratch on me.

And I killed men, today. Men that couldn't control themselves, that couldn't run, even when they wanted to. Six dead... That's more death than I've seen in one place ever before and I'm responsible for half of it.

When I read about adventuring, heroes, mythic figures of valour and bravery, they didn't mention how they all felt to have blood on their paws.

Journal Part One (GAH!)

The Road was long, and full of terrors.  Sin lurked at every corner, but I overcame it.  Carousing with my fellow travelers was sorely distracting.  Drinking, gambling, stealing and lying.  I must confess, that was all just the Raccoon.  I pray for that unfortunate soul, but feel he isn't ready yet for salvation.  Surely with proper watching over by the Church one day his true character will come forth.  Or, he will end up in prison and be punished for his crimes.  It is the way the world works.

The Bear, is an interesting case.  I don't know why.  He seems trustworthy and likely a good one to have at your back in a fight.  I pray though that the need for that doesn't arise.

The Squirrel.  I can't say much. He doesn't share in our meals.  He doesn't share in our tales.  He hangs back in the shadows and doesn't speak much.  Funny, he hasn't even mentioned his name yet.

At the same time, it doesn't seem like he's avoiding company, he just never seems to be there when one isn't directly looking for him.  It may be something to ponder in the future, but at the moment, it doesn't seem all that important.  I'm a Paladin , not and Inquisitor.

The Monkey.  Now she seems a bright, curious compatriot.  She's spent many nights asking me many questions.  Unlike some of the other lay members of our party, she doesn't just get that glazed over look in her eyes when I talk about The Church.  However, I can sadly tell her interest doesn't come from the spirit but comes from the realm of the mind.  She's interested in my words for the knowledge, not for the comfort and guidance.   It is saddening, but it is a start.

and I can't wait to get to the Cathedral to confess any sins.

We've finally reached the city.  We stand outside the walls of Triskellian .  Even the walls are a welcome sight.  Azeban (the Raccoon) looks upon the scene curiously and tells us that something is wrong.  If there is one amongst us who most likely knowns when things are wrong, it would appear to be him.  He appears to be from here and informs us the City Gates are not usually closed like this.  Upon reflection this should seem obvious as even the greatest of Cities can't function completely sealed off.  Azeban spots two guards nearby and yells out at them.  I couldn't help myself from rolling my eyes in irritation.  He didn't even pause to consider the situation.  He just opened his mouth and began yelling away.  Impulsive.

The Guards come over and begin speaking with us.  There appears to be a look of recognition in their eyes when they lay them upon Azeban.  I pay this no mind at the moment.  The Guards, apparently respecting the office of my calling, take me as the leader of the group.  The address me first.  I tell them my name, and my mission to their fair city.  To visit their great Cathedral.

The Guards cast a shrewd look at The Raccoon.  Azeban asks them why the Gates are closed.  The Guards inform us that calamity has befallen the City and surrounding areas.  A vile outlaw by the name of Tassobianco has taken up residence and been murdering Traveling Merchants and others.  Worse, this scum has been desecrating the bodies of his victims and burning them.

This is dire news.  I wonder if there may be anything I can do to assist in this matter, but right now, I can't worry about that.  I have a duty to complete.  I have to visit the Cathedral.  Once that is out of the way, who knows?

After informing us of this news, and waiting as we digest this information, they then ask me if our entire party are here for Religious purposes.  Before I can answer, Azeban claims that he indeed is, then begins to chant some kind of nonsense and make odd hand motions.  It was an affront, and before I could stop him from lying he just so casually did it.  I was surprised he could do it without shame dropping him to his knees.

The Guards didn't even bat their eyes at this.  They just simply told him that they knew he's lying.

I stopped this mess before more stains could darken the Miscreants soul.  I told the Guards that I could not speak for the others reasons for traveling to the city, but I could fore-swear that whilst traveling with them, they have caused no major problems.

The Guards ask the others their reasons for visiting the City, then ask me if I'll swear to their conduct.

While I can tell that the Raccoon will be a problem, I feel that it is my duty now to try and show him the right way.  I extend a little bit of kindness towards him and say that I will  If any of them cause me to regret this decision, they will have me to answer to.

And there it is.  We are in the city.

It is Beautiful.

The Cathedrale de Temoin sits majestically in the center of my eye.  Nothing else in the City compares.  Nothing else in the City is worth paying attention to.  The others have a discussion on where they should go next.  I am here to go to the Cathedral.  That is all I care about.  I inform the others of my decision.

After discussion for some reason, they decide to make the Pilgrimage with me.  I confess, this development has pleased me, as it's always an honor to share the Glories of the Church with others.  I'll admit, that no mere words on paper can compare to the sense of wonder upon entering the Cathedral for the first time.  Monette (the Monkey) squealed in delight at the sight of the great Clock.  It is wondrous, but my goal remained the same, my duty required that I make my devotions.

After making my devotions, we gathered outside of the Cathedral.  For some reason our informal group has decided to band together for the time being.  Azeban has informed us that he knows of an appropriate in.  He claims it's just the spot and tells us it has the best beer in the City.

Upon arriving at our destination, all hopes faded.  This place was shabby, it was broken down, and the customers didn't seem to feel comfortable with me.  I don't know if it was my size, which I must humbly confess is unusual, or if it was my dress.  I know that many feel uncomfortable with those of my persuasion.  They know they can't live up to our standards, and hence give up.  Instead of looking towards us as the beacons of faith that we strive to be.

It saddens me.  I feel that I must confess this sadness.  I wish not to hurt others, but my duty says I must live my faith to the fullest.

I am broken from my melancholy thoughts by the others wanting to go out and enjoy the Festival.  It is always correct to observe Holidays in their proper manner, so I gladly partook.  Azeban overindulged in drink.  The crowd was full of revelers.  It was nerve wracking.  Not only because of the people, and the potential sin going on all around, but, once more I must humbly confess.  My size made it awkward for me to get around.  People were put out having to move around me.

I noticed Azeban talking to a lovely young lady.  Luckily for all involved before I had to step in and save him from perdition, he put a foot in his mouth with her and saved the both of them from shaming themselves.

The scene went on into the depths of the night.  In the end it was just Azeban and I  in the street.  I couldn't leave the scamp alone.  I swore that he'd cause no trouble.  I had to keep my eye on him.  There we were.  I standing sentry over him, and him passed out in the middle of the street.  I picked him up and slung him over my shoulder.

I carried him back to the Inn, and I must ask forgiveness here, I'll admit, after a day of travel and a night of standing sentry, I didn't lay him down as gently as I should.  It is a mark I must hold against myself.

The next morning.  Momo (Monettes preferred nickname) and I set out to explore the Market, while Talos and The Squirrel decided to sleep in as Azeban decided to go and re-acquaint himself with some of his compatriots.  I hope he doesn't get himself into trouble.  But he's visiting friends.  What kind of friends would let him get into trouble.  I ease my mind from worry.

The first thing we come across in our exploration of the Market is a pair of Beavers selling exquisite dioramas of various religious scenes.  They've done great work here.  Inspiration strikes me as I notice the shabbiness of their clothes.  They don't make as many sales as they should.  I decide to buy one.  I don't haggle either.   In gratitude for the business, the Beavers inform us a little more on the vile thug known ans Tasobianco.

He's bad.  His a vile murderer.  He must be taken care of.  They mention something about a reward.  But surly the act of stopping him from his acts would be reward enough?

We return to the Inn.  I admit that I'm a little foggy on details here.  I was more concerned with exactly how we were going to deal with this criminal scum.  The group decided to work together in this.  I don't like the idea of getting others into danger, but it does do my heart good to see my compatriots decide to work together on stopping this guy.

We visit the Authorities and get our warrant.  I realize that I'm getting a little scant on detail here, but my mind is on other matters.  In order to find out more about Tasobianco, we visit a tax office.  I realize that sounds like an odd place to visit, but with information we've found out about him, we believe it may help us locate him, and understand his motivations.

Tasobianco is a former Nobel who's family has lost everything.  It's sad, but no excuse for the actions he has taken.  The Beaver brothers direct us to a pair of Otters who may be able to help us.  The Otters agree to head to the Fort as long as we can protect them.

And we're ready to set off.

We've set out.  After a few days of preparation, we've set out with the Otter brothers.  I'll admit, I'm a little worried here.  I've given my word to protect them.  I'm worried of events that will be beyond my control.

For a large part of our journey, there wasn't much of note, up until the chaos erupted.  Two scamps appeared out of nowhere and demanded we drop our weapons and surrender our supplies.  I tried.  I'm honest here, I tried to resolve things through negotiation and calmness.  As I was slowly trying to get between the Outlaws and my charges, Talos.....

Talos charged directly in and took a more direct approach.  It's not something I expected.

Apparently, our Outlaws did.  They had an ambush set up and a number of their compatriots stepped in.

After that, I'll admit I'm not a reliable whitness.  Everything became a blur.  I wasn't able to see everything as I was concerned over protection of my charges and fighting Outlaws.  I do know that when Tasobianco, showed up, I tried to make it to him, but\....

Well.....

.... Magic.

Through some means or the other, we prevailed.  Talos mauled a guy.  It's... disconcerting.    I'll have to think about this.

From the journal of Monette Clockwise

I was dead.

I don't know how else to put it.

Maybe it would help to start at the beginning.

Bullivar - the man is a walking miracle, to be up and around the day after taking a bolt to the eye - and I decided to speak with one of the prisoners, see if we could learn anything else. He told us more about his gang's hideout, the lay of the land. Nothing new abut Duespade or the Scorpion. Plenty new about the place they were holed up.

It was an old mining town, so the rat told it... built down in the shelter of a valley, abandoned when the veins went dry. More important, it was a blind angle, and the gang set up crossbowmen on the ridges as sentries. In short, a death trap.

Turned out Wilgefortis hadn't found out this piece of information before he sent a dozen of his best out to be chewed up and spat out.

Talos and Azeban wanted to stay, rest up, wait for new of the soldiers. Bullivar, me, Flint... we all had other ideas - if what we'd been told was true, the Triskellian men were walking right into an ambush, and one set by a sorcerer at that. We set out immediately.

We weren't prepared for what we ran into. The crossbowmen were there all right, and so were the guardsmen. Mesmerised, puppets. It took so much concentration to avoid harming them that we didn't see the snipers... hidden in an unnatural fog. I was struck in the back. Badly.

That wasn't what killed me.

We persevered though. We covered for Brother Bullivar, slowed by his injuries, Flint igniting the crossbowmen left and right whilst I did everything I could to make myself a distraction... Azeban and Talos joined in time. It was something, at least. We made it.

Quiet, then.

They must have lost track of us in their own fog. We began to move as stealthily as you can when one of your number is a huge moose... but for a while our luck held. We made it beyond several mining shacks, deeper and deeper into the valley. I hung back to cover the others as they moved towards what looked like the mine entrance... and trouble.

More guards. More mesmer, and this time at the same time as we were spotted by the crossbowmen.

I fired the best shot of my life and sent a rat spilling from the cliff to die horribly on the ground.

Four, now.

We overcame the remaining guards, told them to group up with their comrades. Shaken, woozy, but at the very least alive.

More than we could say for the horse whose head we found impaled on a pike when we made it into the mine. More than we could say for the mutilated dog we saw in the aftermath of some kind of ritual.

It's hard... hard to remember exactly what happened.

I can see the hulking figure in armour made of bones, standing alongside Duespade. I can see the rest of the rat gang swarming towards us. Bullivar and Talos stepping in, fighting. Flint readying his fireballs, Azeban with the rapier as I trained my gun on the Scorpion.

I remember Bullivar screaming out that Talos was a traitor, going seemingly berserk. I remember firing, missing, and the... incantation.

I fell then, I think. I saw blackness. Agonised screams that couldn't have come from a mortal throat. Leering faces, grotesque, twisted skulls. Howls of accusation as bloody corpses lashed at me, murderer, killer. Callous, with no regard for them or anyone else.

I hadn't the breath to deny it. I've shot men in the head, sent a dagger into someone's chest, shattered a jaw- I didn't- it wasn't supposed to be like that- it's a gun but-

No excuses for the wailing ghouls. No penance for me, stealer of their lives.

And then, nothing.

I was dead. I'm certain of it.

And then I awoke. Triskellian, a hospital. Doctors and nurses buzzing around, a priest... astonished to see me awake, the others, my companions, if not overjoyed then... happy, anyhow. Three days unconscious, since I'd collapsed in that mine, since another of the guardsmen had broken free from his bonds and managed, with Talos, to put an end to our Scorpion.

A monkey. An enormous monkey.

I couldn't- can't properly think. It feels like every time I try to concentrate there's those faces lurking at the edges of my mind, burrowed in the deep darkness. I'll close my eyes and see blood, try to read of the scripture and there will be a scream, right on the very limits of what I can hear.

They want to bring me back there, into that dark place.

We recuperated a while longer. I was introduced to Art, the guardsman who had wrested himself free. A donkey, don't know what to think about him yet but he's surely a brave soul to endure through what he did. I'asaac contacted us again, said he knew nothing of this Scorpion, and that he was troubled by it. ...before it went to black, I remember the monkey saying something about a sacrifice to the blood god... eerie.

I'asaac wants us to travel to the seat of house Repenz, astronomers, to find more about this.

I'm ready to leave Triskellian, by now.

This morning I came upon something retrieved from the mine... the scorpion's 'tail', an exotic spearlike contraption with a wicked edge. Nobody could use something like that with any degree of precision... nobody without a particular sort of tail.

Another monkey.

I will not be hurt again.

I will not be hurt again.

The Journal of Talos

Part 1

This is hard for me to write , my people are not known  for putting down there thoughts in written form. But the creature known as Momo as encourage me to least have something that keeps my exploits alive for future generations to know what I have done. I laugh at her for suggesting it  ,  It not like there will not be tales song of  mine and my companions deeds for generations to come. But heck I do like this person name Momo and it does past away the time . So I have decide to least start doing it.  Now where do I start...

I left my people in the Northern lands , because I felt that I was not ready to be the leader of my tribe,  I thought how could I lead my people if I had not been in any real combat. I have not fought for my life and the life of the weak.  My mother was not happy about this , but my father same to understand what I was thinking. He knew I had to gain the honor of leadership for myself , before i could gain the honor of my people. So I travel to the biggest city in the south and came upon a strange band of people .

How I met them is unimportant , but I must say they are the strangest bunch of people that I have ever met. There is a moose name Brother Bullivar, he is a paladin , a knight of his order,  He serves his god ,  he fights for what is good and he is huge , bigger than me... it the first time someone has been bigger than me and I had to fight back the urge to engage him in combat , because it is rude and not what they do in these southern lands.   He wears his burden like a coat of armor and he same to not like me . Oh he is polite and I can see that respects me , we have been in some battles already , but I can tell there a undercurrent of mistrust , maybe even some hatred in him towards me. It might stem from me not believing in his god. I practice the way of my tribe , the old ways that have been handed down from generations to generations. Fighting with ones hands and teeth. Weapons , one does not need outside weapons when one is born with them.   No matter what he might think of me , I like the Brother... i might never tell him to his face , but I hope one day we will come to a mutual understanding and friendship or we will end up have the fight and if that happens  one of us might not walk away at all

There is Monette the monkey , Momo for short. She is of noble birth , similar to me in that respect, but it is different in many ways .  she same to on some sort of adventure, she is smart , I must say much smarter than me. Her knowledge is vast in many things that I have never heard of,   she can  also do battle very well , she has a weapon that shot metal called a gun , I do not care for that , but she can fight  with her limbs. she recently a weapon that she can use with her tail... There maybe hope for her yet.  But I do like her , she is friendly person , she same to enjoy the small things and she tries to get to stop and look at them also. I think them a waste of time , bur I do tolerate her company.  I try to get mad at her , bur she smiles and I can not stay angry for long. I do fear for her . The fights that we have endure is going to change her and it might not be for the better. I hope that she can keep that personality that she has , but that could be only a fools wish and I know she will be change forever. I will do my best to help her stay like she is or least keep a piece of what she once was alive

Azeban the raccoon , this is a person of no honor, he would steal from his own mother if it was worth it.  He same to party to much , drink , try to lay down with women of any kind.  I do not understand the man,  how could a person reach such a level. How could a person treat himself in such a way. Maybe it not for me to understand him. but he has proven to be a fighter when the times call for it or least when his own skin is threaten. I can say that . when he is needed he does show up, when he is not drunk or  in bed with whores or both. Maybe he will explain one day how he came to be like this. I would wager a large bet that it is least a interesting story. Maybe i will ask him one night while he is drunk, while he telling it , it might keep me from killing him.

There is a squirrel who would not tell us his name , every time we bring it up. He changes the subject . Momo has begun to call him Flint and it is a good enough name as any so I do the same. He  has skill has a healer , that is something that we can see clearly because he has help save out lives several time already along this journey. He also like to light his enemies  on fire , Which  I must say is very helpful  in a fight. He does not share of himself with us and I do not like that. He is  hiding something , but the time has not come to reveal what that something is . But I  let it go for the moment . There is going to be time in the future where i will not let it go and he going to have to explain who he is , least he will give us his proper name.

There is a Donkey name Art  . I will explain later how he came to join our little band , but I do not know much about him , he only been with us a short time. He has skills , he was a member of an elite city guard. That is all that I need to know at the moment about him. He can fight well and I willing get to know what type of person he is later.  but he can fight and that is good .

I have written enough for one night journal, I grow weary of sleep , but I will write some more and explain about some of the battles that we have been in so far . Explain how the brother lost an eye, explain how I got  my first kill in battle, how momo nearly died and how Art join us.  Until later .

(From our NEW PIRATE BASED PATHFINDER CAMPAIGN)

Dear, Ma
From the desk table your son, Festus

Dear Ma, I know you be worried, but don't be.  I am fine.  I'm on a ship.  It's the regal Wormword.  And lo and behold I didn't even have to look for her.  The crew found ME and brought me on board.

Plunder plunder steal plunder steal rape plunder plunder plunder pillage rape steal steal rape plunder pate plunder steal pillage rape rape plunder steal.*

I've been put on the rigging crew.  You'd be proud, I get to show my work under the watchful eyes of the First Mate, Mr. Plugg.  The chaps got a right respectable beard, so we know the measure of the man.

I've made a few friends already.  There's Shuu, probably the second worst cook I've ever met.  She works under Fishguts the Cook.... The WORST Cook I've ever met.  But they serve us Ale with our meal so it's just like home.  Horrible food and Strong drink.  I've also become friends with.... I think his name was Dust(?) not sure he ate some food and was quite for the past few days.  He's a Deck Swabber, because he's not good at anything else.  Then I met Barefoot Sams, she seems a nice girl.  She don't wear no shoes and that's why they call her Barefoot Sams.

Ach, It makes me afraid to talk to Stinky Pete and Pissy Dave it does.

Rape, plunder steal.  Pillage rape steal plunder pillage pillage steal plunder rape, plunder rape plunder steal rape.  Plunder plunder rape.**

Shuu got punished for not doing her job right.  I for one can forgive her, I mean who'd expect a girl to be good at cooking?

The Cap'n had a huge celebration for HIS Ma.  He gave us extra ale.  I think I may of sucked on Sams toes after I told her about being a wee lad and tugging on Me Ma's beard as a kid.  I'm not sure, the Ale was good.

Jack, one of the deckhands came up on the deck one day and Beardy sent us down to the Bilge to "Kill them".  He wouldn't tell us what, but off we went.  It was some rats.

I'll admit me mouth began wattering thinking of the Rat Tail Stew with Meatballs and Tomato Sauce that Pa used to make.  We killed the Rats.  I suggested to Shuu that she include them in our meal.  It took some convincing, but she did it.

Then, a guy named Albair said it was an open challenge for a Bare Knuckle fight.  He put up a bag of gold for it.  I beat him up.  Here, I'm ashamed.  I figured out fairly quickly that while he seems physically fit, his mind is that of an imbecile and he's blind on one side.   After a while the wanted to run away, but the crowd wouldn't let him (nor would Mr. Plugg).  I tried to talk him into just going down, but he wouldn't.  Finally I knocked him down.  When Mr. Plugg gave me the gold, I took ten out to give to Albair for a good fight.  I doubt he'll see it, but I had to make the effort, it WAS a good fight, he threw some good punches and Mr. Plugg even gave him a club to use.  This won't be a boring trip at all.
Rape, plunder plunder steal pillage rape pillage steal pillage rape rape steal.***

Don't worry about me Ma, I'll be fine.

Festus McTavish, Rigger of the Wormwood.

Translations from Thief-speak
*(The Captain seems to not be the most respectable man I've met.  First of all, no beard, second of all he's bald.  Bald on the chin and Bald on the head?  Tsk, Humans will put anybody in charge)

**(They took me equipment, but I've done some exploring and found me Beard Knife and have placed it back in it's clever hiding spot.  Also, they forgot to remove me Boot knife.)

***(There is something going on here, something I haven't figured out yet.  I will though, and I'll find the rest of my equipment.  I know we'll run into danger soon and I'll need me axe)

Should explain for anyone who may be reading this topic for the first time...I intend to run a role-playing game via voice chat on skype. In the past we played Pathfinder (Stoner, Jag, BD, Prancy, J-Vo) and Ironclaw 2.0 (Jag, Stoner, BD, Jen, Prancy).

Games I have the sourcebooks for are...

Dungeons and Dragons (3.5 and 5)
Pathfinder
Ironclaw 2.0
Shadowrun Anniversary Edition
Demon Hunters
Paranoia
Pokethulu
Pokemon Trainers United
Wheel of Time (DnD 3.5)
Warhammer
Deadlands
Star Wars Anniversary (d20 Edition)
Mordheim

Not that I would want to run everything (Stoner runs PTU, and Pokethulu is kinda stupid). But we have options depending on interest. We'd play using voice-chat on skype and a campaign management tool called RollD20. One or two evenings a week EST (a start time around 8pm EST till 10 or 11), this depends on my work schedule, but generally it would fall on Wednesday thru Sunday evenings. Anyone who is willing to commit to playing regardless of experience level is welcome, and we generally have a good time.

UK base,d so timings may be hard to work, but I'm interested.

There's also an online tool made specifically for this kinda stuff, which includes a DM interface with multiple game plugins. I'll see if I can find the project for you :)

Jen is UK timing as well.  And if JVo is back in action then you'd be almost even with Murica.

We use roll20.net to play.  It has a built in dice roller as well as a thing to allow us to make maps and macros for rolls and blah blah blah.  Its a pretty nifty site, you should give it a look over. We use Skype for the actual chatting though, since the roll20 chat/video service is pretty shit.

From the journal of Monette Clockwise

Difficult to write after all this time. A lot has happened.

Though I might wind up going home or staying in Triskellian. Had an offer from the city guard to join up with their academy, get sponsored through training, come out the other side with a qualification, a career. I can't say I wasn't tempted. Respectable, would have prospects.

But you know, I have my own way of doing things, my own style of fighting, such as it is. Would have hated to have to relearn how to do it all from the ground up, and Triskellian is a long way from home to commit to.

Was still thinking it over when I got a message from I'asaac. Meet him at the usual spot. Last time I took a job from him, I died. Made me wary.

Some of the others were there. Brother Bullivar, Talos, that squirrel, Flint, who still wouldn't say his name. His actual name, not the nickname I gave him. I'asaac wanted us to head on out to a nearby town, check up on a contact of his who he hadn't heard from in a while. I still hadn't really made up my mind about what I was doing, so I figured that hey, it wasn't far from Triskellian and if I decided to go home, it was in the right direction for Bisclavret.

So we set off with a wagon, headed to the township. Cosy place, probably got decent traffic from being along a road. Right away we noticed the monastery on the hill overlooking the town... turns out it was home to Pentient monks, whereas the people of the township were adherents of Hyperdulia. Still S'allumer either way, but a little odd to see them in such close proximity. Back home it's Orchomency all the way. Share and share alike. Love life, live it loud, live it with laughter. I don't know if I can still hold onto that. Can't find my smile any more.

The nightmares haven't stopped. Floating bones, shattered bodies, heads that spill blood. You. You. You. Haven't spoken about them to anyone because what's there to say? I'm having bad dreams? I can't forget about nearly dying, actually dying? I can't forget that I've killed people? They wanted to hurt me, would have done, same as the others... but I tore them apart. Gun and hands and feet. Maybe the nightmares are all I deserve.

Looked for clues of I'asaac's informant but we couldn't turn anything up. Decided to check the monastery out, seenas we'd already exhausted what we could find in the town for now. Worth having a look, right?

Door was locked. Knocked. No answer. Not normal, Bullivar tells us - monks are supposed to be the welcoming types. He gave me a boost and I climbed up the building's wall to a window, squeezed through.

Dead. Dead everywhere.

Someone had rampaged through here, tearing out throats, slaying monks left and right. The blood was so bright, glistening, making abstract patterns across floors, clothes, fur...

According to Bullivar some of the dead had the symbol of Eteignoirs, a heresy, scrawled all over them. They were responsible? Or...

We heard movement upstairs - a figure fled from us, scrambling out of a window. I jumped out onto the rooftops after them, gave chase. Talos charged down the stairs and joined me. The pursuit went on for some time as we tried to catch up, and eventually we ran them down. A squirrel. Tried to interrogate him, demanded to know what he was doing here - even pulled my gun on him. I was frustrated, angry. I wanted to see blood.

Flint mentioned our contact. Turned out the guy was Nael, I'asaac's nephew, of all things. Kept rambling about spirits and such. Beyond my understanding. He told us he'd head back to Triskellian and talk to his uncle, maybe give us a better idea of what's going on.

If the Eteignoirs come back, I'll be waiting. We'll see how well their skulls take bullets.

From the journal of Monette Clockwise

Everything turned into a bloody mess.

We let the township know what had happened to the monastery; obviously they were stunned, couldn't believe what had happened under their noses. We headed back up there in the morning to help with the funeral rites and take one last look around. I took a look through their ledgers; something didn't add up about what the monks had supposedly sold and what was actually in their gardens, but I didn't get the chance to follow up on the lead.

Bullivar attended to the dead with prayers and burial. Not sure how restful their slumber will be after dying like that.

Wasn't time to get philosophical. Beastmen attacked us on the route back to the town. It got brutal.

They cut down the townspeople
so
much
blood

We fought back, fire and blade and gun and fist. Somewhere in the middle of it all, Flint ran away. I took a bite to the shoulder. Bullivar struck a beastman's head off so hard that it hit one of his fellows.

We won, thought that was the end of it.

No.

Following day, Bullivar goes out of town. We spend some time keeping to our own devices. I check out the farms, trying to work out the problem with the ledgers. Flint and Talos do their own thing. Flint's been spending a lot of time with Nael. Wonder if there's something there.

Eventually we reconvene at night, Bullivar still hasn't made it home. That's a worry. He wouldn't just leave for a whole night without telling us, surely?

Hold the thought. More beastmen. Yes. More.

I took a dive straight out of the inn's window. Reckless, they're calling me now. But why not? Something needed to be done and I did it. People were dying out there, people that I could be protecting.

With force. With my own violence.

Once again we fought. I didn't even have time to don the scorpion's tail. Strange to just fight with my fists again, up until I swung a kick and kicked a beastman's head so hard into a wall that it cracked his skull.

Yes. That part I do remember.

They came several times in the night. We rebuffed them, somehow. I was wounded again. What's another? I do worse to others. Much worse.

Bullivar returned in the morning and things got muddled. Apparently the mayor had asked us if we wanted to hunt beastmen and we'd said no. We'd, of course, done nothing of the kind. Someone had wanted Bullivar out of the town, and they'd pulled the wool over his eyes to do so.

Answers. We wanted answers.

Nael had a lead for us. We headed for the mayor's estate - they were moving people out the back, it looked like. People covered in some kind of white sheets. The more I heard, the less I liked it.

I went on ahead while they were discussing things. Why must we always spend so much time talking instead of doing? While we were hanging around debating, our only point of information was getting away. I crested the hill behind the mayor's house and there they were... people from the village driving the sheet-people along, and at the front of them all, the mayor.

I played it off cool, tried to. It gave them some pause anyway, long enough for the others to show up. They'd caught Nael snooping, had him captive.

The interrogation went nowhere. Typical fox, thinking that noble blood means he's above anyone else. Would never get to throw his weight around like that back in Bisclavret. Bullivar invoked his church authority, the fox ignored it, the fox lied through his teeth.

I pointed my gun at his head and told him that my friend was getting impatient. Talos stopped me from shooting him right then and there... and then everyone pulled weapons.

Stupid. Stupid. Could have ended it, could have cowed all the others easily, if he'd just let me put a bullet in that man...

The sheet-people got away during the struggle, Nael took a knife in the side, went down. Under the sheet of one that got caught in the crossfire... an emaciated woman, looked like she'd been through a mill. That mayor...

We fought off the village-people. Fierce, but they weren't beastmen.

And I put.
My tail.
Through.
That fox's.
Throat.

Turns out nobles bleed just like anyone else. He had it coming. He deserved to die for what he'd done.

Not sure the others saw it that way. Found a letter on him addressed to a baron in Bisclavret - I recognised the name, Afligeant, been around a while. Suppose that's our next lead.

We tried to check out the mayor's place, but guards from the town happened by before we could make it beyond a weird hidden passage beneath the house. No evidence in our favour there, either. Bullivar wanted to turn ourselves into the authorities. I said screw that, but it took the guy being attacked before he'd finally back out. Myself? I kicked a guard in the crotch and ran.

Bisclavret. My country.

Afligeant's lands aren't far from Harrowgate.

Should I... visit home?
Title: Re: RPG on Skype

From the journal of Monette Clockwise

Harrowgate feels different. It's only been a few short months, but these same streets don't seem like they used to.

No. I've changed.

I went to the family shop. They replaced the big clock up above the entrance with a fancier one, though it probably would have been weirder if they hadn't changed part of the shopfront. Got to keep looking fresh in the arms race of Bisclavret commerce.

Father was there, bent over that workbench of his just like the day I left, messing with - what else? A clockwork watch. The little bell behind the door rang, and just like always, he called out that he would be there in a moment without even looking up.

I said hi.

He jumped up, fastest I've ever seen him move, crushed me in a huge hug, and then called for mother.

'Monette's home, Sibéal!'

He sounded so happy. I felt... numb.

I'd sent letters, of course, made sure to write, but there weren't a lot of couriers doing the route from Triskellian to Bisclavret, and what with how often I was out in the field, there wasn't always time. They wrote me back a couple times, making sure that I was okay, checking that I didn't need anything.

I never said all the details. I could see the worry in father's face when he took a look at me and saw the scars, saw the bandage still wound around my shoulder, where I got bitten by that damn beastman.

Mother sat me down and gave me The Look. Capitals. She wanted to know just what had been happening while I was away from home.

I was evasive. I let her know that I'd got into scrapes - several, really, but that much kind of went without saying, given all the injuries. I mentioned the bandits, what happened on the North Road. I withheld the Scorpion and the beastmen. I most definitely withheld what happened with the mayor. I think she believed me for the most part, was mostly all upset and worried that I'd been fighting when I was supposed to be doing research, maybe odd jobs. Got the guilt trip treatment... which I probably deserved; made me wonder what would have happened if I'd gone with the constabulary job after all.

Then father put his hands down on the table and asked the question.

'Monette, have you killed anyone?'

Mother was appalled, asked him what kind of question that was. I couldn't look him in the eye. Couldn't even answer. How are you supposed to respond to your father asking you straight out if you're a killer?

Because I am. Many times over. Sometimes not even because it was them or me, but because I could.

Silence said more than any number of words. Father just nodded, said 'I see', and then asked whether I was going to be staying, or if I was heading out again.

I told him enough. Mentioned that I was with some friends - neglected to mention what kind of friends, given how Adavists and mages are regarded around here. Said that I'd be staying a short while, but that I was in the middle of a job for a Professor back at the college in Triskellian. Made it suitably vague and suitably impressive sounding that I think he took it at face value. I'll have a chance to rest, clear my head, maybe practice a little with my two flintlocks.

I'm leafing through the pages of this journal right now, reading all the old entries, reading how... how I was when I started this thing out.

What am I going to wind up becoming?

Is it going to be something my parents can be proud of?

I don't know if I can answer that any more.

I've been reading it for a while since I got it.  It seems SUPER easy to play.

All dice rolls are 2d6.  You may or may not get a bonus based on the four stats in the game, and whether or not you have any momentum.  I definitely suggest downloading it and giving it a once over though.  I think Fast Action Grappling may be ready to return in a new format...

Party was sent to a Dwarven minning camp. But before we got there we ran across a clearing full of dead dwarves, dead people in purple robes and a passed out Prancy elf. There were scorch marks all over.

I could tell, being a Mountain Dwarf, and better at this kind of stuff than my Half Elf and Dragonborn companions that there was a big fire going on at the mine. The Dragonborn Monk snapped the elf chick out of her stupor while the Half Elf Paladin and I kept a watch out. Elf lady said something or other about Dragon Cultists attacking them and the mine being under attack, and something about a dragon. While Dragonborn and Half Elf chit chatted about what we should do, I ran to the mine.

Bunch of stupid dwarves running around like elves with their heads cut off, disgusting. The had a cultist prisoner though. I tried intimidating her, but she'd have none of it. Dragonborn grunted that thing he calls a language at her and she croaked the same crud back at him. Something about a Dragon cult.

I didn't care, I went off to whip the dwarfs back into something resembling a proper orginized mine. That was when I heard the thumping of something large approaching.

I ran past my companions Axe in front of me and told them trouble this way.

The eventually followed me. The clearing had three Ogers heading towards the mine. I yelled at the Ogers "Stop in the name of Stop" (OOC I stumbled over my words and that's just what came out) The Ogers stopped. They looked on in confusion.

The other two showed up and the Ogers decided we looked good enough to eat. The started walking towards us. I threw a Javelin at the one in front. He shrugged it off. Paladin did some magic on another and Monk did some kind of wind punch thing.

Ogers still come closer, I charged and went into Freny. I attacked the one in the lead and hit him three times. Barely hurt him. He punched me and hurt my head.

Paladin fought the one he magiced. He missed. Oger hit him. Monk repeated his thingy.

Other Oger attacked Paladin.

Sumerizing the fight. Paladin got knocked down, I chopped off Ogers head, attacked other oger, eventually killing it and Monk finally took his down.

While Monk helped Paladin, I noticed Dragon sounds from the mine. I charged to the mine. There dragon. Still in Frenzy I had no choice but to attack. Super Lucky hit and Super lucky Damage and I bloody the Dragon. Elf girl shoots a crap load of arrows at Dragon and it flies away. I collapse, we sleep and we heal.

End Session one

(minus a few odds and ends)
