If there was ever a pitcher to give that type of money to... it's Kershaw.

The norm (at least in the pre-PED days) was that an athlete's physical prime was ages 27-32, so 5 of the 7 years of the deal should be Kershaw's prime. That also means that a guy who's won 2 of 3 Cy Youngs (and had a solid claim on the other one) hasn't even reached his prime...

As for the cash, LA can afford it. They paid over 2 billion for the team. They can give a pitcher 30 mil.

At first I thought it was outlandish but then realized Kershaw is worth that money, is coming into his prime where he should get better, and is one of the best already.

I think MLB insiders pretty much universally believer that Trout is going to get silly money. I saw one article where a 12 year deal for 400 Million was discussed... seriously, 400 MILLION DOLLARS....

I hate when teams pay these guys ridiculous money because they never live up to it. But Kershaw is a damn good pitcher and is only 25. This a good move for the team. However they are overpaying those other guys listed.  Kemp is great but his health makes him suspect.
